Customer Reviews

Backlit Bluetooth keyboard for iPad - just what I wantedI bought this quite a while back, and have been meaning to review it for a while. This keyboard was - and still is - exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a Bluetooth keyboard that had backlit keys, had a great feel, and a HOME button for my iPad. This keyboard fulfills all that, and more.It came complete with a charging cable - charging from my iPad power brick, I can typically top it off in less than 90 minutes. (I try not to run the rechargeable battery all the way out). The battery life is fantastic; I've never had to stop and charge during the day. By recharging over night, I always have this ready.I like that it can be removed, and flipped around to act as a "cover" for the screen, however, I wish that the design had created more of a "Macbook" type clamshell, rather than the somewhat awkward method that Zagg uses. That is the only thing I would change.5Perfect iPad Air Keyboard Cover! This is my second Zagg Cover for my iPad. I find it's the perfect keyboard. Unlike some other keyboard cases, this one has keys with a normal size and layout. I used to use my Apple Bluetooth keyboard with my iPad but it's much easier having one in a cover, and in this case, the cover is easily detached. You can even flip the the iPad around in the cover for reading. It doesn't add much weight to the iPad Air. Because I often write in bed at night my favorite feature is that it has BACKLIT KEYS with three levels of brightness and about 6 different colors you can choose for thee backlight. ZAGG has an excellent warranty and customer service also. When one of the keys on my first one stopped working, they immediately shipped me out a replacement. I don't think there's a better iPad Air keyboard out there.5Everything I was hoping it would beWith the death of my Macbook Pro and unable to afford a new one, I resisted the Ipad/tablet revolution needing more productivity than entertainment from a highly portable device. The ZAGGkeys tipped the scales. The keyboard is everything and more that I'd hoped it would be... good tactile feeling to the keys, backlit, not too cramped for touch typing, easy to remove from the Ipad (without scratching it), and it protects the screen when closed. I've only recharged the keyboard once in the two months I've had it and the magnetic sleep/wake function has worked flawlessly. Yes, it adds weight to the Ipad, but I've now got a netbook, which can easily and quickly transform into a tablet. Add the Printopia app to your home computer for $20 (if you don't have a wireless printer that works with the Ipad) and you can wirelessly print to any existing printer. You won't be able to use a screen protector because of the clamp that holds the Ipad in place, but do I have a Luvvitt Dolce Soft Skin Back Cover (had to enlarge the cutout around the clamp a wee bit with an Xacto knife, but it was easy task). By the way, the ZAGGkeys Cover looks and feels like it is part of the Ipad. I attached the included mini rubber feet and it doesn't wander on hard surfaces when typing. I played with all of the competing choices in a brick and mortar store and for my tastes, this was head and shoulders above the rest. I'm very satisfied and highly recommend this keyboard cover. The backlit keyboard has been a godsend in dim lighting.5Updated review...don't buy.UPDATE: waited too long to return. Thought I could live with the hinge as the keyboard seemed really great. However, The "P" and "T" started being difficult at day 35. Surprise! I'm stuck with it. Zagg wouldn't even replace as they don't make it anymore. Not worth the money.I Love the keyboard! Can't stress that enough. HOWEVER, the hinge holding my iPad does not hold securely. It's like it's missing a part or something. I don't want to return it unless they can provide me with a unit that will hold the iPad more tightly. It's fine when the hinge is closed and I insert the iPad and then open it. The problem comes with I go to close it, the hinge is very stiff and the iPad pops right out. Then I have to manually move the hinge to the closed position. This is very difficult without the leverage of the iPad. The keyboard itself is outstanding!1Buy this only if you plan to keep you iPad in it for extended periods of time. This is a good bluetooth keyboard if, and only if, you plan to keep you iPad Air in it for extended periods of time. The keyboard works well, the backlight is very cool, and the hinge/clamp is very secure. This keyboard does a great job turning an iPad into a netbook. Once the Air is in this keyboard it wants to stay in this keyboard.Which turned out to be the problem for me. I broke the hinge after two months because I kept pulling the iPad out of the keyboard. Unlike other keyboard covers, the iPad slots very firmly into the edge clamp on this cover. It does not come out unless you use a lot of force. That's great if you don't want your iPad falling out of the keyboard--it will Never fall out--but not so great if you want to use your iPad as, well, an iPad. The cover blocks access to control center, which is annoying. It also makes one-handed use of the iPad in portrait mode impossible. They keys are also a little cramped because the keyboard isn't full sized.I realized I don't need a keyboard clamped full-time onto my iPad, so I was constantly tearing my Air out of the cover, which is actually rather difficult to do and also puts a lot of strain on the hinges. Maybe there is a trick to it, but after two months I never found it out... The build quality on this cover is ok but not great, and after probably hundreds of removals the right hinge broke, little pieces of metal popped out, and now the keyboard won't close anymore. Amazingly, everything else about it still works after this catastrophic failure and I'm keeping it as a backup external keyboard...but basically I broke it, and you will too if like me you keep removing the keyboard from the cover a dozen times a day.So if you want your iPad always firmly clamped into your keyboad then by all means get the Zagg cover. If you don't, as it turned out I didn't, look elsewhere.Right now I'm using Apple's wireless keyboard and an aluminum Elago tablet stand ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003QD4D6U/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). This setup works well for me, although I'm still looking for a good portable bluetooth keyboard for the Air....3Love it so far!I really like the feel of this keyboard. I never have any trouble finding the home row as I go back and forth from touching the screen to typing (I use it for editing). The backlighting is nice and soft, but you can adjust it to be brighter. There's also a button to show how much battery you have remaining, which is great. It's not super difficult to remove, but feels secure. It's very comfortable to use on table, lap, or couch. From reading other reviews, I'm worried about the back being exposed... I dondon't know if there are any cases that will fit the back with the hinge. I'm looking into getting a sleeve case to port it around in.5One minor flaw hurts this stellar iPad Air keyboardThe ZAGGkeys Cover is a bluetooth keyboard cover that protects the screen of your iPad while providing full keyboard support. Compared to many other covers and cases that exist for the iPad, this is hardly the most secure cover. A reinforced clip on the edge of the keyboard grips the iPad and holds it into place leaving you with a device that effectively has a laptop form factor. If you've ever used a netbook, you'll be right at home as the iPad's compact 9.7'' display and the small layout of the ZAGGkeys board accurately replicates the look and feel of a netbook. The keys themselves have a strong feel and give good tactile feedback in response to being pressed. Occassionally the board does not respond to key presses though whether this is from bluetooth interference or a conflict going on with iPad software, I couldn't say.My favorite aspect of the keyboard is its full backlit option. Coming in three brightness intensities and eight different colors (easily selectable by holding the dedicated backlight key and the left or right arrow key on the keyboard) means there should be an option for everyone. I favor the deep green color myself but change it up every now and then.Compared to some other keyboard covers for the iPad Air, the ZAGGkeys board sports many additional keys, including a row of function keys along the top of the board that provide access to media playback, the home button, and a dedicated Siri button, all from the touch of a key. The board spans the length of the iPad and so is not overly long, making touch input relatively easy though for apps that require constant and precise touch control (such as games) it will be easier to slide the iPad out of the cover. The cover includes magnetic sleep mode for both the iPad screen and the keyboard in order to retain power, a dedicated lock key, and matches the charging port of the iPad with a port on the same side for charging the keyboard. Both devices can be easily recharged from the same outlet or computer. The main area where the cover lacks is in its alleged reading mode. As the hinge clip does note rotate 360 degrees, in order to get reading mode you must slide the iPad out of the cover and rotate it manually. This is largely pointless, though may be of some use if you use your iPad in public places and want to keep both parts together. I hope that in their next iteration of the device, ZAGGkeys includes a full rotation mode so that I don't need to remove the iPad from the cover anymore. While not a true computer replacement, the ZAGGkeys keyboard is accurate enough to be an every-day workhorse and significantly improves the usability of the iPad for productivity and office work. Anyone comfortable with the laptop form factor will be happy to have it to as the tablet and cover combo easily slide into any 11'' laptop sleeve for additional protection. It is a great device that is less secure but more diverse than a folio case or simple stand.4One Of My Best Purchases!First, they sent me a European keyboard and while it worked correctly, the keys were not visually in the correct place. After getting a replacement, however, I am very happy with my purchase. It is not compatible with an iPad's screen protector and after a few attachings/detachings the hinge does get a little loose (Hence the four stars instead of five). It's been 3 years however and even though I have a different case on my iPad that doesn't allow me to attach the keyboard to give it the feel of a laptop, I do still use it quite often. The battery life of this thing A-MAZING! I literally have not charged it in probably 3 months or more! And the backlighting makes typing in the dark easy and the multiple colors & brightness levels make it fun!4Flimsy charging portBought end of December, port to charge the keyboard sunk into the device and is unusable. The charging port didn't even see that much use as I kept the cable in my computer room and my mother primarily used the IPad. She'd bring it to me when it'd get low. There were no falls or anything like that. The keyboard had already given me headaches when I did use it... the bluetooth liked to randomly disconnect and and pause for a few seconds before being registered again, but over all it helped my mother who has difficulty with touch screens. I'm trying to figure out if it's under some sort of warranty, but it's certainly not being easy to find out. I'm really disappointed because overall, it didn't strike me as a bad product and even with the odd pauses where the on-screen keyboard would come up until it registered the physical keyboard again, it made things much easier for my mom. As this was my Christmas gift to her, though, it's really disheartening to be out the money and without a substitute for her.2Lights, Not Quality *CUSTOMER SERVICE* not keyboardBeautiful nice island keys with led lighting u can change color & intensity.Easly pairs with ipad air.
