Customer Reviews

Wemberley P-20 perfect fitWemberley P-20 Lens Plate is well made and fit perfectly on my Canon 70-200mm Zoom and 300mm prime. The plate locks in securely to the WH-200 Gimbal Head. The plate has Anti-twist nuns at the back of the plate. These help to keep the plate from twisting if it is mounted with only one fastener. 5Excellent Arca-Swiss type lens plateExcellent Arca-Swiss type lens plate. I use on my Canon EF 70-200mm L IS II and reversed on my Canon EF 100-400mm L IS II combined with my Mongoose 3.6 Gimbal head. Works just as well on a Wimberley head. Top notch machining. Doesn't get any better than this for sure. 5Great productIts a Wimberley product. That kind of says it all. Same excellent quality as everything else I have from them. I purchased this plate to replace a P-20 on my Sony 70-400 G II mounted to a a99ii. I also purchased a Wimberley Sidemount WH-200-S (NOT the same as the Sidekick) and wasn't sure that the P-20 would have adequate length to balance the lens + a a99ii with the battery grip. As it turns out, it was possible to balance the setup with the P-20, but just barely. The longer lens plate made it much easier and is more flexible. The longer plate also makes it easier to mount the camera/lens on the Sidemount.Great workmanship. Great finish. Great materials. Its just a great product overall.Side note: $50+ for a lens plate may seem like a lot of money, but after spending the better half of a day surfing for an equivalent plate, the cheapest I could find that even came close was still $25-28. So, in theory, you might save $20-25. The question is whether saving $20-25 is worth it when your body/lens comes loose and lands on the rocks (or on the rocks at the bottom of a cliff or lake). Some (quite a few) plates don't have the little screws at each end. Some look like the coating is actually paint. My experiences with the cheap metals coming from China doesn't give me any warm fuzzies either. Dimensions can also be a problem since besides there being no real 'Arca' standard, the Chinese seem to have issues using rulers. There are all kinds of ways in which trying to save $20 can lead to a catastrophic mess, none of which I wasn't to experience. Want to save $20? Stay out of Starbucks for a week. 5Excellent contruction, easy to install, everything you need for a successful installation.Bought the P-50 instead of the P-40 for my 500mm lens for the extra length (room), as I wanted to place 'scratch marks' into the P-50 plate marking the 'balance points' for the 500mm when connected to a 1.4x/2x extenders, and without an extender, and when using two different camera's, in other words, if you don't know the balance point, for example, when I am using my Gimbal Head, the camera will tilt up or down, when off balance, this is important for me, even though I can just tighten the Gimbal knobs, but when photographing birds, I leave all the Gimbal knobs loose, so I can change directions quickly, it would normally take me 10 or 15 seconds to find the balance point, now it is instant, when using the marks I scratched into the P-50. For my purposes, I have to move the right side plate screw into the same groove, with the other plate screw, it's not easy, but I needed to pull the plate complete to and over hang the rear of the 500mm lens foot, to mark my balance points. If this is not something you care about, the P-40 would be perfect for the 500mm lens. You get 2 wrenches and extra plate screw and in case the screw hole on the foot is to large, you get an cap to screw into the larger hole, so your screw will fit, everything you need to attach your plate to the lens foot. 5Perfect fit, great valueI just took delivery of the new Sony 200-600mm lens and needed a Arca Swiss mounting plate for my tripod ball head. Wasn't sure what the lens foot mounting configuration would be so I delayed order a plate until the lens arrived. Now that both pieces are here, I can report the Wimberley lens plate for Arca Swiss includes all the mounting options for the Sony lens. It also includes smaller screws to prevent the lens from slipping off the ball head and two additional screws for ball head options that are not designed to prevent the lens from twisting on the head mount.Wimberly instructions are complete and easy to read. Materials and construction are excellent. When you pay $2,000 for a lens, it doesn't make sense to skimp on the quality of the plate that mounts to your tripod. This Wimberly plate meets all of my expectations for a high quality lens mounting system. 5That lens has 3 holes in the footplate & the P-50 was the best length to take advantage of this 6+ lbQuality item. Purchased to go on my new Sigma 150x600mm Sports lens. That lens has 3 holes in the footplate & the P-50 was the best length to take advantage of this 6+ lb. lens on my new Benro GH2C gimbal head. The length of the P-50 is good to get the best balance on a gimbal setup. If you have several big pieces of glass, buy a plate for each lens, buy quality & life is good. 5Versatile design with long slot makes it usable on wider range of lenses and feetWimberley makes great photo gear as with this plate. It is well machined and the length provides space for attaching a flash bracket to the lens foot. What I like about the Wimberley design is the long continuous slot. Many makers of such plates put in holes and so are more limited in terms of lining up with the mounting holes for the plate to the foot. I have been able to use theses P-20 plates on three different telephoto lenses thanks to this slot design. Great to be able to get a new lens and simply transfer the plate that was used on the old lens to the new one with no problems and no need to buy a new plate. 4Great Wimberley quality at a fair priceOrdered this plate for my Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary Lens because the factory lens collar/foot was pathetically small and I was not able to adequately balance the camera/lens on my tripod. Even attached to my Nikon D500 w/battery grip, the entire set-up was lens heavy. This Wimberley plate was the perfect length enabling me to move the camera/lens combination to the rear of the ball head changing the center of gravity and creating a much more balanced set-up. The plate is constructed out of high quality alloy and works and looks great. I also like the fact that it comes with two screws that can be inserted into the front and rear of the plate, and act as safety stops preventing the plate from sliding out of the ball head if it came loose for some reason. I found it to be priced fairly compared to other makes/models and would buy it again. I highly recommend it! 5Superb Super Telephoto PlateI recently purchased the Wimberley P40 for my EF 400mm F/4.0 DO. I understand that the recommended plate is the P30, but, I felt more confident that the length of the P40 will provide better support and balance for the lens, lens hood, camera body, extenders 1.4x or 2.0x and a battery grip. (Must worry about at least five weight distribution items). I like the way the P40 has two screws to be placed on the front and back to prevent lens from falling out of place when releasing or attaching lens on plate. The P40 is built with the highest and most professional build quality, it feels so solid, strong, yet light weight. The amount of care and detail put into its design and build quality makes me feel confident that you can trust placing expensive super telephoto lens on Wimberley designed products.Thank you for reading! 5Essential for larg zoom lensesI have attached the P-30 lens plate to my Nikon 200-500mm lens base. Now I can attach the camera/lens to a the Wimberley WH-200 gimbal on a RRS tripod very easily and without worries to fall down. I am glad that I purchased the P-30 for this lens base. 5
