Customer Reviews

Okay, after install and use, it works, but the range is very dependent. I needed to be able to turn on a pest control device remotely. This load is low level electronics only and the most critical thing is being able to make the remote actually work. It was listed as being good for at least 100 ft..... and if everything is perfect, you know, it might work that far or even longer in some of these units (you must realize that all electronics are less that perfect and some will do less and some will do more). In my case, I cannot consistently get it to do even 75 feet. I had really hoped it would work. I walked away from it about 75 feet, and looking right at it, pointing the trigger right at it, it was 50% at best: disappointed. My best guess is that if you do not load it beyond the rated values, and if you only need 50 feet of remote application, this will be a very good, consistent, and capable unit...... the price is right for it. If you need it to work for 100 feet of remote use or more..... good luck guys. I like the unit in general, but it just does not do as well as it should it would seem. 4I have had it for over a month now...I LOVE this wireless remote!**What it is and why it's good**It works from pretty darn far away. I have had it for over a month now, and I have it hooked up to my outdoor fountain. Now, I just point the controller at it from inside the house and turn it on. I watch through the window as the water starts flowing. :) So handy! So on cold Northern California mornings, I don't have to step out into the chilly air and waste warm air flowing out of the house when opening the door. Now, I stay warmly inside and just click. It's also great at the end of the day when it's time to shut it off. Again, just click. One last note, it's super-nice that the plug is flat because it lets the receptacle's rain guard flap stay down instead of being wide open.**What you should be aware of**1. You may wonder if the plug itself has an on/off switch locally (at the brick) or does it only work with the remote?Answer: There is not an on/off switch at the "brick". You can unplug the cord to the appliance or use the remote. The whole point of this product is to be able to use the remote, so this feature does not bother me.2. While you can be pretty far away from the plug with the remote, it seems you do need to be able to point right at it. So, if you are just somewhere randomly in your home and try to click the remote, it is probably not going to turn on whatever you've got plugged into the unit.I always read reviews before purchasing, and find some quite helpful, so I hope you find this review helpful!5Warning - The picture is not showing the product you are buyingAlert! The product is not the same pluduct as shown in the first picture. I tried to rebuy the product I had bought previously and it directed me to this page, but they are sending a different model now as shown in the second picture. I bought two of these and both are in operable because the battery will not stay in the remote. Obviously I removed the plastic sleeve, and they work fine if you hold the battery holder in. But the battery holder falls right out. Their tech-support said they have never heard of it which I can't believe since both mine do exactly the same thing. They basically recommended I return them both - which I'm going to do1Works great .... well worked great for about a yearWorks great so farUpdate: This remote didn't make it to the second winter. It was outside under a covered patio. No sun or rain got on it. It just died from exposure to temperature change and crappy manufacturing. This is in NJ where it can get down to 0 and up to 100F. But that's mild compared to a lot of the country. I do not recommend these for a prolonged period outside. It would probably work great for Christmas lights. As long as you bring it in after the season is over. Knocking it down to 1 star because it is described as "outdoor" and it definitely was not made for outdoors.1WorthlessDoesn't work most of the time. When I first set it up, it worked great,After about a week, I would press the 'on' button on the remote, and nothing would happen. It would work if I pressed the 'on' button on the receiver, or kept pressing the 'on' button on the remote several times (20 times or more),After that, it seemed to work 'OK' for a while, until I left it for a couple of days, then the same thing,It is not even intermittent, it seems to get 'stuck' if you leave it for long. Not at all reliable, can't depend on it working consistently.1Only in the line of sight at my houseTurned on a lamp 30 feet away in my Florida Room and turns my shed light off and on if I'm at the window in the bedroom about 20 feet from the shed door in the back yard but only in the line of sight. It won't work through any of the walls in my house which is strange because my key fob to my car will open and close the car doors through 3 walls...anyway it does a pretty good job, I'm not complaining. :)3Tried two-neither workedI ordered one and it turned on but turning off required the xmitter/receiver had to be less than 3 ft apart. Tried too late to return. It fit my applications so well and was inexpensive enough I tried a 2nd one. Same problem. Paired the first one but was unable to pair the 2nd as the design changed and there was no "button" to push for pairing as the enclosed directions instructed. Manufacturer didn't allow return even though it was less than a week after receipt of the product. Don't buy from them.UPDATE 9/26. Amazon has refunded my second purchase price and offered free 1 day shipping if I order a replacement (which I won't), but Kudos to Amazon.1This works perfectly This is the 2nd Christmas I've used this and I love it! I'm not using it outdoors, I'm using it indoors to power all my Christmas tree lights, along with 2 dimmers to raise or lower the light level when we watch movies, etc.Because of the lights running into it, I needed something heavy duty and this is it. I have 5 small alpine trees, for a "forest" of Christmas trees. They are all pre-lit with LEDs. I also have about 2 strands of regular mini lights, 3 lit houses, and 1 more device running into a power strip that I've hooked into this. It's perfect. I turn the lights on and off with this, and use 2 dimmer remotes hooked only on the trees, 2 on one remote and 3 on another. This is heavy-duty enough that the wiring is not overheated (I checked it multiple times per day/night for the first 5 days) and it is safe. Because of its longevity through the Christmas holidays (we have the tree up for nearly a month), the ease of setup and how easy it makes my life, I give it 5 stars. 5BAD REMOTE - UPDATEI'm really disappointed. I bought two units because I needed two units and one of the remotes doesn't work. I replaced the battery, trouble shot based on the manual, and the light simply does not come on on the remote. If I had only bought one, and the only one I bought didn't work, I would be supremely ticked off... as it is I was not able to complete the project that I planned for this weekend and that makes me unhappy. I invested in two products and only one worked, that's 50 percent success ... not good. UPDATE - The other remote quit working within five days so I sent them both back. The range was maybe 5 feet when it was working.1not as pictured, doesn't work as advertisedI bought the Woods brand of these remote power switches last week. Advertised range 60 feet. Actual measured range was 10 feet. I wrote a quite negative review and sent it back to Amazon. I ordered this one with a claimed range of 150 feet.First, the unit I got is NOT the same as was pictured. The one pictured (identical to the Woods brand, and probably all made in same Chinese factory) had a status LED on the front, so I can see what is the state of the switch. This one has no LED or any other indication if it's on or off. I'm trying to switch on an engine block heater, not a light, so the status indicator is important, especially with something as flakey as these products, so I can see if it got switched on or not.Second, the remote does not work through a single wall at ANY distance, so I had to mount it so it's on the outside of the shed.Third, the range of this remote, like the Woods brand, is not even close to what is advertised. Actual range is 40-50 feet, which is much better than the Woods, but still not good enough. At 40 feet, it seems to turn on and off reliably. At 50 feet, it's very iffy; sometimes it works and sometimes not. Anything over 50 feet, it does not work at all.1The remote stopped working in less than a month.I bought this very recently and used it only three times. I left the lights on and when I went to turn them off (about 3hrs later) the remote just didn't work, the remote's indicator red light didn't shine. The next day I replaced the battery with a new one and it still didn't work. There is no evident damage to the control and nothing loose, it just stopped working.I also tried calling the Westek product support number provided and the call didn't pass through (1-8009198590)I'm really disappointing because it was very useful to me while it worked.I'll probably have to try a higher quality, more expensive model.1This is a great use item I bought one of these for my shop.I use it to turn on and off my dust collection. Being new to working in a shop, I often forget to start the dust collector when using my table saw, drill or other machine/tool.With this, I plugged it into the socket, plugged the dust collector into it, and now if I start using a tool and forget to turn on the dust collector I hit the remote button from anywhere in the shop and the dust collector starts up. When I'm done I hit the off button and off it goes.I can turn my dust collection on and off from anywhere in my shop. One of the best tips I've ever been given.I bought a second one to use as a back up for my radio and air conditioner (it's a window A/C)Update: I'll be buying several more of these for my tool carts - press the button and the cart outlets will be live! 4good, reliable - as advertised - and more The switch is durable and works well. I bought two and was able to turn off and on Christmas lights on two sides of the home with one switch. The switch has multiple channels to select from so up to 2(or possibly more) units can be used independly, read the specifications for number of channels. This unit has a mechanical power switch, if can be heard when switched on of off. The controller also has two buttons, one off and one on. This allows it to control inductive loads such as lights with a ballast (transformer), these include many of the small high efficency lights. A fully solid state switch (in this price range) will burn itself out when turning on a large LED light. I am still looking for a remote swttch that looks like a common light switch that will control high efficency lights and continue working for more that a few on/off cycles. I now use on to turn on and off a small 120v fan from the other side of a room. The other unit I bought works well as a security switch for the garage door motor, the garage door takes two seperage controllers to open it. I use this on rare occasions. 5Good remote, but channels may duplicateThis is a very nice remote switch control. I would have given this five stars except for the fact that there appears to be no way to control the channel that it uses. I had bought three of these which worked great, but the fourth one I purchased is on the same channel as one of the other three that I have, which makes it much less useful. Opening up the device shows no DIP switches or any obvious way to change the channel (nor is anything mentioned in the documentation). So if you plan to use several of these within range of each other (and the range is pretty good), keep that issue in mind. Apart from that one issue, the device would have gotten five stars. I have written the vendor to confirm that the channel is hard-wired, and also to get an idea of how many different channels are present (if it's only a dozen or so, that would be a problem, but it may be that there tens of thousands of channels and it was just a rare coincidence that I ended up with a duplicate).4
