Almost doesn't count This could have easily been 5 stars if it worked! It worked for a few moments and I was thrilled. Walked away & came back & it didn't work anymore. Tried the old plug & unplug but still nothing. 1Works Great! Setup was moderate.. if you can configure your home Wifi Router, then this should be a cake walk.. just follow the instructions that come with it (even has a youtube video you can watch). After configuration, I was able to plug into my network printer and it picked up an IP and printed with no further problems. Thanks guys. 5It delivers what I wanted I also use this to bridge my home WiFi and my cellphone Hotspot to my Openspot. It is working great; however, it took some thoughtful reading of the small print instructions to accomplish (and about 2 hours of playing with it. )It is doing what I want it to do. For the price you can't beat it. Can't find one at Big Box stores tho. They have $80.00 and up bridges from net gear.Russ KW5KW 5Works Great - but has a backdoor. NOTE: I had to remove all links from this review as I forgot URLs were not allowed - this means you'll have to do some googling to get the firmware and files.Device technically works perfect - and I would recommend it (it worked flawlessly for our needs and I have purchased a dozen with more on the way). However, the built in firmware does contain a backdoor user/pass that is a super admin account.SuperLogin=vonetsSuperPassword=vonets26642519As a result - I would NOT use the factory firmware. Luckily OpenWRT does support the device - and with help from their GitHub comments - this is how you correct this issue. (NOTE: do this at your own risk - it fixes it, but it is flashing the device and certainly isn't warranted by Vonets)Download -Google OpenWRT and you will get to the openwrt page - you can search for vonets in the supported hardware and find the download file.Download the firmware and rename the long *.bin file to fw.bin (makes it easier in the future).Download a TFTP server, you'll have google "tftp server" - I used one by jounin.Plug in the VONETS device to your USB and Network to bring it online.Go to the IP: 192.168.253.254 in your browser and login with the superuser login aboveOn the Status page you will see SYSTEM UPTIME and the actual UPTIMEClick SYSTEM UPTIME then the UPTIME time until you get a prompt that says "ATED START" - this hidden trigger enables the telnet client on the device.Telnet to the device, and use the username and password of admin | adminBack on your computer - start the TFTP client and set it to bind to your vonets ethernet port (lets say it is 192.168.253.100)Click BROWSE on the directory and make sure you put the fw.bin file you saved earlier in that directory.Back on the telnet session - type "tftp server: tftp -l fw.bin -r fw.bin -g 192.168.253.100"Press ENTER to load the firmware on the deviceThen write the firmware by typing "mtd_write write fw.bin /dev/mtd4"After it is done writing type "reboot"Upon rebooting, you will be part of the new subnet 192.168.1.* with 192.186.1.1 as the gateway/management IP.Login (no password by default) and you are now in with OpenWRT firmware. The built in Ethernet cable is the LAN, the port on the device is the WAN, and the AP is set to OpenWRT with a bridge to the LAN by default - you can change all of this and more - see openwrt for documentation.Enjoy! 4The instructions for setup are horrible and make sure to have magnifying glasses handy to ... It worked with an old Blu ray player that only had an Ethernet port. The instructions for setup are horrible and make sure to have magnifying glasses handy to read it. All in all, it made an old junker useful again that saved me from buying another wireless device... 3Good bridge, bad router. This is a compact 300 MBPS wifi bridge / router. As a router, it sucks. As a bridge and wifi booster, pretty good. My setup is in my upstairs office where i have the Vonets plugged in to a 5 port gigabit switch. I run my media server, 2 x NAS devices and my printer off of it. Works pretty well in this configuration, even though the LAN/WAN connection is only 100mbps. (Kinda silly to for a 300mbps wifi connection, huh?). I actually supply power from the USB port on one of my NAS drives. The bridge is pretty stable, and I haven't had a bit of trouble with reboots. 4Not a good router, just buy their VAP11N for bridging, orphaned firmware updates, cannot turn off repeater I've purchased about 3 of these. Originally I was buying VAP-11N to bridge networks, because of the wide input voltage range DC 5V~15V. I bought this instead because it seems to be the same, but with more features, and a few bucks cheaper. One of these just pollutes the RF in my house, see attached image. As soon as I plug it in, it destroys all WiFi within a hundred feet, ping times to other wifi devices went from 0-5ms to 1000ms. I'm surprised the neighbors didn't complain, and men in suits from the FCC didn't arrive. I guess 1 out of 3 ain't bad :-|The vendor is nice, but they seem amateurish. For example, they hardcoded the firmware upgrade IP address to an FTP server in China, and then they experienced a "crash" of their server, and the IP changed. What happened to all of the Vonets equipment out there in homes and on shelves with promised "lifetime server updates"?"Cannot reach update server". They are forever orphaned, unless you do some clever Linux iptables hacking. Support were kind enough to respond by email with the new IP 121 201 111 2 but what an engineering n00b move to hardcode the IP address instead of just using DNS, or at least redundant entries.Oh, and you cannot turn off the repeater, even if you uncheck "The hotspots repeater" option. The best you can do is hide the SSID and change the default network key, see attached.Despite saying it takes only 5v, I've been running it on 12v successfully. Plus one star for this. Still wish I could exchange it, though. As another reviewer said, the admin IP is 192 169 253 254 but you can also reach it at hostname 'vonets.cfg'. 2Works great for my boats offshore isolated wireless data and video camera network using on USB Power I purchased this device to use in places where I have the following: 1. No existing wireless network, 2. No internet service, and 3. No 110/120 Volt A/C power. I bought this to connect an inexpensive USB wireless 2.4 Ghz 480P/1080P IP camera (think baby monitor) over wifi to an IP Camera viewing app on my cell phone and/or tablet. This worked great. I did not have to plug in this units wired RJ45 Plug (LAN or WAN connection), or the units other built-in RJ45 jack (LAN or WAN connection), to anything, to have it work. I just connected this units USB plug to USB power, and began the first wireless connect and configuration using any internet browser on either my wireless laptop, tablet, or cell phone. The device needs minimal configuration in first-time power up:1. For device management security, change the password to something other than default web page mgmt login and password.2. Change the SSID to something you like3. Set a WPA2-PSK password on the new SSIDDone. I had it configured in 10 minutes. Then connect any 2.4 Ghz Wireless b/g/n wireless devices to it by selecting the new SSID and putting in the new SSID password. Be sure to have your wireless devices set as DHCP IP address assigned, and this device (in router mode) will assign unique addressable IP addresses to the wireless devices automatically. The device comes defaulted to Router mode, which is what I wanted to create my isolated and dedicated boat wireless network. Other modes/uses of this unit is an alternate home/work internet wifi range extending repeater mode, and a non-wifi ethernet device to wifi bridge mode use. I have not tested the wifi range extending repeater mode, nor the wired to wireless device bridge mode use of this unit.It worked great for me to create a isolated and dedicated wireless network on my boat between my wifi tablet or wifi cell phone and a Wansview 480P/1080P live view camera using only DC USB power from cigarette lighter type power receptacles and related cheap 5v 1 amp USB socket/chargers on my boat. Now, for safety, I can watch a forward facing camera view (behind my boat windshield and dry under my boats top) on my phone, tablet, or laptop of my forward slow trolling boat while I sit facing rearward watching my fishing poles. All I need is USB power to both the Wansview Camera and this router. My cell phone and tablet have their own power, or can use USB power too. No A/C power needed for this dedicated and isolated wireless boat network. 5Great Portable Router Using this with my hp elitedesk mini to create a mobile lab environment. Works great, speeds are pretty good (@30mbs), and its really compact. Sharing my wifi connection over ethernet and piping into wan of the router. Setup is easy and has good configuration options. Configurable lan/wan ports, you can use either the port or the cable for lan/wan. One note though, be sure that you have a good power source. In the photo you can see that I have an adapter on the usb, thats a usb->usb-c adapter. My other ports did not provide enough power and resulted in poor bandwidth (7mbs vs 30), an external power adapter (3A) worked fine as well. 5Works great ! Works amazing! Using it to feed WiFi from hotspot to Ethernet for my openspot SharkRF ! Also have a TP-Link too however this one allows more than one network so I can add my home and phone and it selects the best signal and connects, also you must enable WiFi hotspot the vonets when you set it up as a bridge with WiFi hotspot enabled to access openspot dashboard or you won t be able to connect to the openspot dashboard to change anything, most blame this but it s not this !!! Lol 5
