Customer Reviews

Great Bag with a Major FlawThe fabric is rugged. The stitching is strong. The zippers are not flimsy. The bag should last for years. But there's a problem. First, thought, the good: It holds lots of stuff. I can access the interior from the front and the top. It's got plenty of pockets so I can keep organized. There is no external cup holder but there are plenty of places to hang things. This is especially true if you make use of the included, do it yourself, bungee. One of my favorite features is the top that folds (or rolls) shut. You secure it with a strap. The bag reminds me of the Shimano Tokyo 17L Urban Touring Pack. I like the Altmont better, though. And now for the problem. It won't fit my 15" Lenovo Y700. Oh, the nicely padded laptop compartment has plenty of room. But the zippered opening to that compartment is long enough. It's the same thing with my Shimano bag. My laptop is not massive. But, like many 15" laptops, it is slightly longer than 15". My Y700 is 15.25" long (or wide, depending on how you look at it.) The short zipper really limits the usefulness of the bag. Another quarter inch of zipper and I would be singing the praises of this bag. As it is, because I need my laptop, the Altmont stays home while my old backpack goes to work everyday.3... went back to school and this has been a great addition to my suppliesRecently went back to school and this has been a great addition to my supplies. Plenty of room.5Good quality, but very odd configuration. This is not your standard backpack, so this review may get a little longer than usual.I guess I don't actually get it. It's like a mini-hiking pack. It's confusing, so I'm going to do it by listing pix.Pic 1 you can see the front of it. There are 2 zippers at each side going to smallish half-width pockets. The two padded spots in the gray strap are padded handles for carrying it that way (though it feels awkward to me that way when it's loaded). In the center is a full length zipper that opens to a full-width storage area. It has 2 flat pockets inside suitable for a phone or such. There's another zipper inside (see my pic below) and that accesses the main compartment. Odd to me, but some may like it. If you have anything in that front pocket you'd still have to dodge and dig or unpack it. Inside the pocket is also a sewn-in lanyard clip.Pic 2 shows where the laptop would be put. It doesn't look like it would have much padding in the back, but it does. The problem, however, is that the zipper to get in there is kind of tough to get into. The little loops for the "Smart Tethering System" it includes get in the way badly, and if you did have it tethered up, you wouldn't be able to get the laptop out. (See my pic below) You can also see that the entry for the main storage area zippers go only about 1/3 the way down the side. There is also a plastic snap on each side at the top (see my pic below).Pic 3 isn't anything new so on to Pic 4 - this is a good look at the back. You can see the much-touted bottle opener there on the end of the left strap. All the straps are fully adjustable. And we can skip Pic 5 too.It comes with a weird kind of cardboard thing inside. I don't understand it at all. I guess it could be for display purposes, to make the pack look filled out to show it off better. I can't see any everyday use for it at all. It makes me feel dumb. (See my pic)They keep hyping that it's Swiss-made, so maybe it's designed for youth hostel-hopping. You could fit a nice wad of clothes and minimal toiletries in there. I guess I just don't see it being very school-friendly, especially if you use the tethering. Either way, it's too much for us, and just not designed in a way that we want a laptop bag to be.Still, it feels like it's a good quality bag. The zippers are all pretty sturdy and have lanyards on them. The stitching is great - straight, solid feeling, no bumps, folds, or skips. I haven't had it in the rain, but I did use the kitchen sink hose on it, and it repelled nicely. So, I'm going with 3 stars.Apologies - Amazon didn't keep the pix in order, but hopefully you can figure them out3Different design, combination duffel, backpack and stuff bag. Lots of great features and included extras. It's a combination backpack and stuff-bag - as in "stuff a bunch of stuff inside." My 15.5" HP touchscreen laptop fits inside perfectly. Large tablets are no problem. The laptop or laptop fit inside a pouch in the main compartment and are directly against your back. The pack is designed to be worn loosely - if you snug it up too tight, you'll put pressure on the computer. There is a decent amount of padding for the computer, plus the fold-over design insures it will stay dry. I'm a fan of "stuff" open top bags - they open WIDE and allow you to cram a lot of stuff inside. This one takes it a step further - there are side snaps and zippers that allow the top to open wide and split apart - for an extra wide opening. In addition to the main compartment, there's three compartments on the back. Two that are long and narrow, ideal for quick access. I typically use these for my iPod, glasses, bandanna, trail mix, etc. Then there's a larger compartment with a large open area, two pockets and a zipper to access the main compartment. This is around 2" deep good for a book, supplies, etc.On the exterior are a variety of gear looks, attachments for a web retaining system (included) - basically a mesh of small bungee cables. Great for stuffing a towel, flat pouch, etc. behind. There are no side pockets for water bottles, etc., so you'll have to hand one from a gear loop.or shoulder strap. Not very convenient. All seams are heavy-duty and finished, the side zippers are medium weight and the rear zipper heavy weight. The diamond shaped padding on the pack is nice - you don't sweat as much and it allows ventilation as well as provides extra padding without the bulk of solid padding.Other features include a bottle opener, lots of padding on the shoulders and grips, heavy weight material and zipper pulls. Tuck loops for excess straps, adjustable chest-strap height, inside keyring clip, over-stitching on stress points, and of course their Swiss logo everywhere. This will easily fit a larger laptop/tablet, a weekend's worth of clothes, snacks, personal items, phone, iPod and more. Great weekend bag.5Stylish and comfortableThis backpack is very stylish especially if you are looking for your Seattle hipster aesthetic. The padding on the back is soft and looks kind of like egg crate. So it breaths well even in very hot weather. It will snugly fit a 15in MacBook Pro in the easily accessible back pocket, which leads plenty of room for whatever else you need to cary. The top loading system doesn't have a zipper but folds over securely. I have not taken it into heavy rain yet but the material appears to repel water and the zippers are sturdy. It comes with plenty of pockets including ones that will hold pens or pencils and a key clip. There is a way to access the main area of the pack through the large front pocket, which has always been my complaint about other top loading packs. So, you can reach things at the bottom without emptying the pack. The pack also includes bungee cords that can be laced into loops on the outside of the bag. Unfortunately the instructions include a picture of a different style pack so I don't know where to attach the laces. Overall it is really nice for walking around a university and on that note.... it comes with an excellent bottle opener.5Five StarsVery good quality and good price.5Um, Manufactured Well--But Very DifferentI'll give props to Victorinox for thinking outside the box on their backpack design...however, the end result is just a bit too weird for my personal tastes. It seems as though they were trying to create a duffle bag/backpack and while the end result isn't the weirdest I've seen, it certainly is different. Just the way you open the op is quite, um, different. The buckle and the zippers on the sides, just, um, well, I know I'm using it a lot, but the word different once again comes to mind.I like a good backpack, and while this one works, the hybrid/duffle bag part is what keeps it from reaching its potential. Its almost like they just tried to make it too many things for too many people, and in the end, failed most who would want to use it. Okay, failed may be a bit too strong a word because this really does work, just in a really odd manner. Not sure how else to describe it.For those looking for a backpack/duffle bag that is definitely different from the rest, this one certainly fills the bill. Plenty of packing area and storage, just keep in mind the oddness of how it all fits together ahead of time and you just might find this to be the pack that frankly, disappointed me.3Good Sturdy BagIt is not big, but I only need it for a small dell laptop. It is perfect for taking to the office, can carry the necessary cables, a couple of small books and the laptop. It is not really a bag to take on a trip or to stuff it with lots of materials, but it is perfect for my needs. The straps are comfortable and strong and look like they could handle a heavy load, but unless you fill it with lead you probably won't ever have to worry about this issue since the carrying capacity is small. The zippers are good quality. The padding is on the back and around the laptop pocket is very good. I also like the way that it closes by rolling the top. Overall I would recommend it if you are intending on carrying small items or using instead of a small briefcase, but if you are a student with lots of books or looking to go camping or on a trip where you need to pack several items, look for something else.5
