Customer Reviews

Extremely slow for a USB 2.0 Excellent durable metal case with a simple and sleek design. It comes with a key ring so you can add it to your keys chain or attached it to a lanyard. It is Verbatim, so I hope this will last a long time. However this is the slowest Flash Drive I've ever seen. It is a USB 2.0, with a max transfer rate of up to 480 Mbit/s (60 MB/s) according to the standard. I can write on this one at 3.584 Mbit/s (0.44 MB/s). This is excruciatingly slow! For 1 GB documents you will have to wait close to 40 minutes. I can smoke signal my data faster than I write on this flash drive. I am appalled how other reviewers found this useful for data transfer. If you like to add a nice designed USB flash drive to your shelf collection buy this one. If you plan to use it for data transfer then you better avoid it. 2Excellent flashdrive for multitudes of uses I purchased a few of these. Some are used as boot flash drives for different utilities like Win10 installer, Macrium rescue, Gparted, and Clonezilla. All work flawlessly in that configuration under a USB 3.0 or a USB 2.0 port and boot up just fine with whatever utility I need. One I used as an MP3 storage drive for my parent's car--in which said parents were aghast that it didn't come with a CD player. Being stunned as they were that CD's are obsolete it was easy enough to rip their CDs to this drive (with a lot of space to spare for future music for them), plug it into their car, and them having all of their music at their fingertips.Would definitely recommend if 16GB is enough for your use. It's small, rugged enough, and unobtrusive on a keychain. 5Tiny, Elegant and a Quality Item I got the gold 32 GB 3.0 flash drive. It was much smaller than I expected which is actually a good thing, it hardly takes up any space on the keychain and you wouldn't even really notice that it's in your pocket. The gold provides a very nice and elegant and stylish look they also provide a small ring to fit the flash drive that you can attach to your keychain.I transferred 1.80 GB which was 1103 files and it took 4 min. 18 sec - as well as 193 MB, 67 files which took 25 seconds. So it would be nice if it was slightly quicker but all around I'm happy with what I bought. 4Basically indestructible, slow, weirdly designed Important things to know:USB 2.0 - She's not fast. USB 3.0 and 3.1 are dramatically faster, but when I purchased this, I was unable to find a keyring flash drive from a reputable brand with those standards. I mostly use this for keeping a copy of my resume and not having to suffer the indignities of online file-sharing solutions when a friend has a file I need, so no biggie.Keyring hole - It's not actually big enough to fit a keyring through comfortably, which is kinda dumb and leads to my next point.Material - I can't tell what this is made of. Maybe titanium? It is freakishly strong. Trying to compress the empty space by hand yields less than 1mm, and my attempts to widen the keyring hole with a diamond bit were successful, but arduous. It is essentially indestructible. 4Great engineering at this price. Small, tough, light I wear this around my neck loaded with Portable Apps. Comes with encryption app from the Verbatim website. Does get warm on a USB 2 socket but I do run it for hours...takes a while to cool down. Good buy for what you get. 5Great, with one flaw. So far this has worked well and I like the appearance of it. But it has a flaw. It is *very* difficult to push in and very difficult to remove from any computer (as if it is just a little bit too large). So it's working ok, but I wonder if it is going to damage the unit I'm using it on, because it takes so much muscle to make it fit and remove it. Long term, that concerns me.If it weren't for that, I'd give it 5 stars. 3Random single-byte data corruption after one year I purchased my Verbatim 32GB USB flash drive almost exactly one year ago. I've probably used it 20 times, as it was mostly for occasional use over the past year. Most of the time it just remained in my backpack. I noticed that my Macbook wouldn't recognize it about a month ago, and use a different method to transfer the files I needed. I then tried it again today, this time on my Windows desktop. Windows recognized the drive ok, and I could view the contents. However, some of the files seemed strange (like directories with unlistable contents). Then I opened configuration file, and noticed random character corruption (I verified single-byte errors with a hex dump). In the file I looked at, 23 bytes were corrupted out of 341.For me, random byte corruption is probably the worst-case scenario, because it can look ok until you clobber good data with it. 1Slow among slow Well, it is a good-looking "executive style" USB flash drive, but the internals are garbage. I am an executive, and I wouldn't trust my data on this nor would I have the patience for it. Among slow drives, it is slow. I could only see this being used for a few non-critical files or maybe to drop some MP3 files into your car or something like that. I don't think I would have the patience to even fill it up at less that 5MB/s.There are other drives such as the Samsung Bar or the (somewhat more mediocre Sony USB-C combo) that blow this Verbatim drive away for not much more money and similar style. You may complain that I am comparing this to USB 3 drives, but this is slow even among USB 2 drives. About the only weird thing I can see is that the small file writes are decent, but something looks fishy since the small file reads are slower than the writes, so this is just likely due to a tiny memory butter. 2Doesn't fit quite right and is slow I really liked how small and durable this drive is. However, data transfer rate is pretty slow for USB 3.0. I don't know the exact measurements, but it's noticeably and significantly slower than my PNY Turbo 3.0 thumbdrive. Also, it fits VERY snugly into USB ports- enough so I feel like I'm forcing it on insertion and removal. My other "keychain" type thumbdrive (Samsung BAR METAL USB 3.0 Flash Drive) slides in and out very smoothly as a well-behaved thumbdrive should. Overall impression- meh. I wouldn't buy this drive again. 3Runs Hot & Slow compared to other USB 3 flashkeys Running Windows 10 home; reformatted device to exFAT. Seems rugged enough for keychain use, BUT its write performance is SLOW SLOW SLOW.A 138MB .pdf files takes ~11 seconds to copy, half the time of my old HP USB 2.0 flashkey but much longer than the 3.5 seconds of my SanDisk 3.0 Ultra.Sandisk CZ48 128GB USB 3.0 Flash memory Drive - SDCZ48-128G-U46A 468MB video file copies in 17.7 sec vs. 8.6 secs on the SanDisk 3.0 Ultra, both of which are quite a bit slower than the 5 seconds of my Sandisk 3.1 Extreme GO 64MB. SanDisk Extreme CZ80 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive - SDCZ80-064G-GAM46Also it becomes quite warm during extended write operations.Cannot recommend this for users who value their time. 2
