Buy 'em by the dozen!Perfect candles for the UCO candle lantern, no mess, no fuss.Hi heat trashed it while hanging in my Cherokee at work,,full sun on a black vehicle, I won't do that again,,,it is wax after all!(The spring pushed the candle up while in the "storage" position and had to install a new candle.)I put a small dab of essence oil on the candle before loading and it releases a pleasant odor when burning without affecting burn rates which last an entire weekend for my burning habits. 5THEY DRIPThese dripped down my UCO candle holder. It seems that they drip a little until the rounded part of the candle melts and flattens. At this time I can t remove the candle from the UCO candle sleeve because of the melted wax. I don t know yet if the wax dripped down on the inside of the candle sleeve but I suspect it did. That is very disappointing.Addendum: yeah, dripped all over. Was a pain getting the thing apart. Puts out a nice amount of light but the candle was everywhere is a pain. 1Amazon fakes? On the right are UCO candles that I ve been buying and using. On the left are the candles I received from the UCO amazon store. See anything weird? They appear to be heated up and squished cheap candles to try and fit my candle lantern. It s obvious the wax will drip down the sides since they don t fit flush at all. I thought I got duped by fakes but this is from UCO. Interesting. Sending back to amazon. Looks like I ll keep buying them from a local outdoor store so I actually know what I m getting. 1The quality is not what I thought it was!I really wanted to like this candle. The internal spring no longer pushes the candle up. Candle wax melts around the spring inside of the candle holder. I end up having to clean out most of the candle. Such a waste of money! 1Inferior. I've had much better candles than these.I bought three 3-packs and all nine candles have warped bottoms. In a candle lantern, such as the single UCO model, without flat bottoms the candle never has a chance to finish burning to it's last 20% without melting unevenly and dripping inside the lantern, making a huge mess. Some of the candles themselves are warped along the shaft. I have to throw away the last 25% of the candle before it drips melted wax into the interior.May be decent candles if you're going to melt the bottom and stand it on a plate, but for me they're useless in a UCO candle lantern, and therefore, I wouldn't buy this brand again. The candles that came with my original Candle Lantern brand lantern were perfect, but these are quite different. Maybe I'll have to try the over-priced bee's wax type to get good quality. One last comment: these candles are rated for a 9 hour burn time. However, having to dispose of the last 20-25% brings that figure down to roughly 7 hrs. Yet I have UCO tea light lanterns which burn 1 tea light, hold a spare, and each is rated at 4 hrs burn time (for a total of 8 hrs, making the savings by comparison, huge). I just bought a 100-120 pack of Zion-brand tea lights for those and they burn nice; you're actually getting the same burn time for pennies compared to the inferior "9 hour" candles that waste the last 20-ish percent. 2I tested one package of 3, in a very ...I tested one package of 3, in a very non-scientific manner: I lit one in my bathroom and set a timer...8 hours and 13 minutes was the average burn time. All 3 burned over 8 hours none the less.I recently used one candle over 3 nights in Arkansas. They put out just enough light at night to not trip and fall over everything. 9 bucks for 3, for about 24 hours of light...$$$?Update 12/8: I bought a 20 pack of candles and every single one of them, had an even base. These will need to be shaved, in order to work in the candles. I called UCO and they said the 20 pack was genuine UCO product. So, no excuses on there end for poor QC on these 20 packs. 2Specialty candles for UCO "Original Lantern", getting pricier & harder to findThese UCO specialty candles are the only ones made to fit UCO's proprietary design 'Original Candle Lantern'. They are becoming harder to find and also more expensive now that the USA's largest retail chain that begins with "Wal-" has stopped carrying them (and discontinued the UCO lanterns also, so they won't be back). I'm giving them 4 stars because of their rising price and because they're also becoming harder to find (vicious circle). You can supposedly also use less expensive 'plumber's candles' in the UCO lantern; they are the right width at 1.25" but need to be shortened a little to fit; personally I can't find them locally so I can't confirm.UCO's newer lanterns (Mini and Micro) both use tea lights instead of these candles, a smart move. You can also burn a tea light in the Original Lantern, just leave the candle out and place a tea light on top of the aluminum candle-cover insert (lots of online videos on UCO lantern mods). The Mini is a great design, the Micro less so.These do burn about 9 hours, sometimes more. They burn better and melt less quickly than the citronella version (and citronella is pretty useless anyway inside a glass chimney). Don't store them inside a hot car or other hot environment, they can melt and deform and then not fit the candle insert which makes them useless.Decent specialty candles, they seem a little nickle-dimey overpriced, for that reason I'd suggest buying a UCO Mini that burns tealights rather than the Original Lantern that requires these. 4Best heating system ever!I bought 4 of the single UCO Emergency Lanterns I put all 4 of them in this glass and metal enclosure and I love it! I do a lot of camping year round as a professional nature photographer. This system makes an excellent heating system for my enclosure. -18c outside around +5c inside. and the candles last 10 hours. 5Don't buy in bulk!Warning buying these candles in bulk Will be WARP or RECTANGLE Shaped. And that is NOT how UCO Candle Lanterns were meant for. Candles must be ROUND to fit and compress with the inside so it is tight. Buy a individual pack and you'll see the difference. I LoVe these candles but , "UCO needs to check their Quality Control for their BULK Candle production" 1Something changed- these are not as good!I have been using UCO lanterns for years with great results. I have purchased bulk candles before because I go thru them quickly. This batch was not packaged the same as my previous order. The previous batch was multiple 3-packs in the normal retail packages. This batch was just 20 candles thrown in a box. They do not work as well as the ones I have used before. They fit correctly, but tend to get stuck in the tube. Also, wax tends to drip down all over the base of the lantern (inside, they don't drip outside of the lantern body. I have been throwing them away once they burn down to about 1 or 1.5 inches. I used to let them burn all the way until no wax is left. Not sure what changed, but these are not as good. 3
