Customer Reviews

Another awesome UAG case!I love this case. This is the third UAG/Samsung combo I've had. This case is much less bulky, and I'm afraid that it doesn't protect as well as the older cases have. S3 and Note 4 both got 3 years of commercial use out of them and never had a crack or damage during a drop. Unbelievable protection, considering I'm a vehicle technician and I'm on the phone all day.The green (plasma) is accurate in the color of the pictures. I got a Orchid Gray Note 8 and it looks okay. I wish they offered the phone in white, it would look so much better with the translucent green. My only gripe of any of these UAG phone cases, is the edge at the top of the screen can irritate your ear if you're on the phone too long.I would buy another in a heartbeat. 5Cant use tempered glass screen protectorsSeemed more "heavy duty" while researching it than what it actually was when I got it. Haven't dropped my phone with it so can't speak for the drop protection. Case is a little slippery in the hand and I even have larger hands. If you plan to use any kind of screen protector, forget about it unless it's the film kind. The tempered glass one I put on when I got the case was stated to be "case friendly" and didnt even last a few hours because this case fits so tightly. Buttons line up nicely. Overall it's a decent case but don't like the fact it won't fit with a tempered glass screen protector 3The only phone case I will buy. Worth every penny. This may get long...I used to be a complete Otter Box nut. Seriously I would get my new phone and before I walked out of the store it had the plain-jane black Otter Box Defender case on it.Those things are clunky, and honestly not all that durable; at some point the rubber shell cover gets all nasty and stretched out. Eventually the clamshell belt clip will break and did many times over the years that I used them. That left me with a HUGE, bulky case on the phone; don't get me wrong, I love my big Samsung Galaxy Note phones, but the cases were ridiculous. This is were my UAG story begins. It was the fall of 2014 and I had just gotten my Samsung Galaxy Note 4, as with all my other phones I had walked out the door with this massive Otter Box on it. Within a month the clamshell was destroyed, the rubber flaps over the ports had torn a bit and wouldn't stay shut and the screen protector was in shreds. Mind you, I'm not blatantly rough on my devices and take care of them, but I still use them, and that's what I get them for, to use!.While I am a Sprint customer, a very close friend of mine works at the local Verizon store and is the manager there. While visiting with her one day to get a new charging cable for the phone, she noticed my very decrepit looking Otter Box and commented that I may need to think about a different brand. Talk about good sales tactics here, because in that moment she was also stocking this new case brand that I had never heard of, Urban Armor Gear. What a strange name, but I saw these super cool looking, minimalist cases that honestly didn't look like they did a whole lot. I first laid eyes on the sweet bright Orange Pathfinder and said I had to have it instantly. Yep... I made a snap decision based on the look of the case, and without knowing anything about it.My friend was cashing me out and I saw the price tag scroll across the screen showing $40.56, at this point I kind of flipped out a little and wanted to know why it was "so expensive for this case that barely covered the phone". Before I could say anything though she had paid for it and told me Happy Birthday! I thanked her and went my merry way with this bright new Pathfinder case that I loved the look and feel of. Fast forward only a few hours and I'm on the second floor of the University and my phone slips out of my breast pocket as I lean over the railing, down goes my phone all the way to the concrete below... I was certain that my phone was smashed to bits inside the case and the screen at minimum would be shattered... Once I made it down and picked up the phone I was absolutely shocked the discover that not only was the phone not damaged in the least, but even my glass screen protector was intact! This got me into searching out the UAG company and finding out more about their products; low and behold I found the limited info, but that is all they need. The specifications are not extensive, just the bare bones details to tell you that your device is protected inside their products. I had that phone and case up until December of 2016 when I switched to my Galaxy S7. This time, I walked out the door with my shiny new S7 snuggly fitted into a brand new UAG Pathfinder case. The S7 and the case are still mated together and work just fine but I really wanted the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 because I missed my S-Pen, before walking up to the counter to purchase my new phone I had the UAG Plasma Crystal in hand ready to slip on the new phone. I'm a bit of a clean phone snob and so I do have a dBrand Skin on my phone, even inside of the UAG case, but my ultimate idea of how to change the look of my phone is with a UAG case. This brought me to the decision on going all the way up the ladder and getting myself the beautiful Monarch case in Metalic Red with top grain leather. If you run into me on the street, or travelling abroad, you can put a $100 down on a bet that I will have a UAG case on my phone as long as the company keeps making cases. I don't give brand loyalty to many companies, and the product has to be worthwhile. In my experience and opinion, UAG goes above and beyond to produce a very durable, sleek looking, and incredibly protective case that is unsurpassed by any other case at this price point and size. There are other "rugged looking" cases, and they are super fancy with all the metal hardware and bolts being them together, but I'm sticking behind UAG with their tough, easy to use and fantastic looking cases. I know my phone is protected and the case is going to outlast the time that I will be using the device. 5I like how slim it feels while still providing a good ...I've tried many different cases, and keep coming back to this one. I like how slim it feels while still providing a good amount of protection. I also like that the front has much better screen protection than a lot of other cases. This works particularly well for me since I don't use a screen protector. The one thing I don't like about this case is that it gets a little bit slippery after some use. This is mostly due to the plastic used for the case. Although the case has those bumps on the side to provide grip, it doesn't seem like enough for me when I'm laying in bed at 2am and holding the phone above my face. My first try to make the plastic a little bit less slippery was to wash off any oil and grease with a baby wipe. This worked, but only temporarily. Although I wash my hands regularly, natural grease always seemed to be the culprit to this case being slippery. I suppose it would be worse for those who like to lotion their hands frequently. Anyways, The final thing I did to solve the slippery feel of this case was to wash it with an abrasive pad and use an abrasive cleaner. I used an SOS pad with bonami. Doing this dulled the shiny look of the case and imprinted fine scratches all over the plastic, which a plainly visible from a distance. However, it seems to have solved the problem of the slippery phone case. Thing here is that I recommend this products as it is generally good. It is slippery, but either if you don't mind it or find a fix for the slipperiness then this case is for you. 4Answer for Screen Protector/Tempered Glass!Stop complaining about how the case won't fit a screen protector (boo hoo!) It's an extremely well made, durable case that supports wireless charging. Its not UAG's fault that Samsung went all weird with the edges of the phone. With that said, here's my solution to the the problem: buy a tempered glass that does not cover the edges (ebay, cost $2-3). While its not a perfect solution, I have my screen exposed only half an inch from one side and two inches from the other. Some protection is better than no protection while a perfect solution is being worked out. Also, don't be cheap and protect your investment with Samsung Premium Care for not 'if' but 'when' you actually shatter that screen. In the meantime, this case is worth it every penny to protect your thousand dollar investment! 5UAG Plasma FITS WITH FULL GLASS PROTECTORS: If you're having trouble READ THISI've seen complaints of this case not fitting full screen protectors so i'll put them to rest and offer help. The Plasma DOES fit full glass screen protectors with no real issues. There is a trick to it. You must first install the protector, then put the bottom of the phone into the case (under the lip of the case), and as you bring the top into the case, take some tweezers or nail clippers and slide the flat piece under the lip of the case while tucking the phone in. I've included a video as it can be hard to understand. The Screen Protector I KNOW fits the case is the I-Blason and i've included that link. While the case doesn't protect the edges of the phone as much as I'd like, the top and bottom are rock solid i-Blason Galaxy Note 8 Screen Protector, Premium Edge-to-Edge Full Coverage Tempered Glass Screen Protector With Mounting Tool for Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (2017 Release) 5The BestI don't write many reviews, but felt compelled to after this case saved my $1,000 phone from my very hard tile floor...twice now1st time, I was sitting on the ground and it kind of launched out of my hand landing mostly on the back of the case - a decent test from maybe 1-2 feet where it was more tossed than dropped, the phone (and case) were completely unscathed, but the screen did not land down.2nd time, today, was from a full standing pocket height, landing completely face down. I wanted to, but didn't even cringe because this case is so well made that I knew the screen was going to be okay when I picked it up (it just sounds 'solid' when it hits the ground), and so my phone survived perfectly.Very comfortable case, easy to hold (love the leather on the back!), side buttons, pen slot, and all ports works flawlessly, curved edges are completely protected while still not interfering with the view or ability to use the edges (the screen cannot touch no matter the position when on a flat surface), the form factor is relatively small for a significant amount of protection (its really not much/any bigger than S7/S8s with an Otterbox), and finally with all this the case also looks awesome, and is a very quality and solid constructions - so many compliments! 5Worth $60???One word, yes. I was very skeptical about the high price tag of a phone case with no included belt clip and no screen protector. But as soon as I opened the packaging and held the case in my hand my skepticism went away. This case is premium. Before this case, my preferred case has always been an Otter Box. But I just didn't like the way any of the Otter Box cases looked on my Note 8. I looked at and tried a few of the $20 or less options here on Amazon but they just didn't cut it for me. This case looks great. I had watched some reviews on YouTube about it. I saw it on the Note 8 in a few of the videos. I am happy to say that in person it looks much less bulky than it does in the review videos on YouTube. On my Note 8, it is slim and sharp and rugged and classy all at the same time. I can't stress enough how much better it looks in person. The only thing I wish it had, is a kickstand. So I purchased a Spigen U100 Universal Metal Kickstand here on Amazon to stick to the back. Conclusion: Highly Recommended.UAG Samsung Note 8 Monarch Feather-Light Rugged [BLACK] Military Drop Tested Phone Case 5BUYER BEWARE!!!!I purchased this case back on January 15, 2018. On January 8, 2019, I contacted UAG and submitted a warranty claim (see pic). I received a response from UAG and I responded as they requested, 2 additional photos of the case that included their ticket number that they assigned to me as well as the type of device. After several emails inquiring about the status of my claim, I kept getting automated emails stating they cannot find my claim and suggest I enter a new ticket. It gets better...when I go log into my account at UAG, I was not able to log in! I sent a request to reset my password, waited about 10 minutes - no email was sent to reset my password. That lead me to believe that my account was deleted by UAG. I say this because I was able to create a new account with the same email address that I originally signed up with! How sweet of them to welcome me with open arms!Really UAG? You don't want to honor my claim and cancel my account? I paid about $30 for this cell phone case which turned out to be defective. You can keep the $30 as a donation from me not to ever purchase another product from UAG.So in conclusion: ZERO STARS FOR THIS PRODUCT, BUT YOU EARNED FIVE STARS for this little stunt you pulled!!!! 1Rugged looking, design isn't bad, 3 of the corners have good protection, screen protection is poorI tried 4 different cases for my replacement Note 8 after the original's screen shattered from a slow drop from 2 feet high in my original case (Incipio Dual Pro). This case had survived many falls/drops/bangs and two of the corner's outer layers had chipped and it was a little slick to hold on to, but in combination with a tempered glass screen protector I thought I was fine. On the fateful day at work I had my phone in my scrub breast pocket, leaned down to get my work bag and it fell out of my pocket, clipped my work bag, and hit the sealed grip flooring (not hard tile or anything) and the screen protect popped off intact and left my phone's screen shattered with chips missing from the bottom left corner. I was devastated even before I then went through 2 weeks of hell through Asurion and received a dud of a refurbished replacement followed by a sketchy second refurbished replacement-replacement. When looking for a new case I was leary of staying with the incipio. So I purchased 1) UAG (Urban Armor Gear) Plasma Feather-Light Rugged [ICE] Military Drop Tested Phone Case, 2) Unicorn Beetle Shield SUPCASE Full-body Rugged Holster Case with Built-in Screen Protector, 3) Spigen Hybrid Armor Case with Air Cushion Technology and Hybrid Drop Protection, and 4) new Incipio case (Reprieve Sport). My biggest concerns for the case were corner and screen protection. I ended up returning all of them except the Unicorn Beetle case even though I hated it, because all of the others had varying degrees of poor corner protection (or 3 corners were good but the corner holding the S-Pen was pathetic), and they had almost no lip to prevent the long sides of the phone's screen. None of them worked as well with the tempered glass screen protectors as the original Incipio Dual Pro did (The Unicorn Beetle case has it's own screen protector so isn't used with a separate one unless you modify it to remove the built in one). I have always liked spigen but it was overall just too thin and flimsy for me. The outer grip was one of the better ones but my bigger concern is when the phone is unintentionally OUT of my hand (nearly all my previous phone's falls were NOT from my phone slipping from my hand). I chose the Unicorn Beetle because, again, I think it will protect my phone the best) but it's a pain to use, ugly, and has many annoyances (I don't want to have to use 2 hands to pry the unnecessary port covers off for the jack or charger, it adds a ton of depth dimension to an already big phone, the design aesthetically is poor and looks like everyone else's iphone case to me, and it still doesn't have the perfect S-Pen corner converage as far as the back of the phone goes (but of all these cases it's the best). I'd honestly prefer to have to work and pry my S-Pen out and have that corner protected then not have it protected (and I use my S-Pen all the time). In summary, this case is mid-level attractive, (if you like aggressively rugged look you'll like it better), it's probably very durable against scratches/dings etc, and I liked how I could appreciate my phone's color through the back. The corner bumpers were one of the thickest that I tried EXCEPT for the S-Pen corner! This was very poor/flimsy! I know they are stuck between a rock and hard place since many people, especially guys with big thick fingers, complain about S-Pen access, but I'd rather have my phone not shatter and have to work a bit to get my S-Pen out than not (personal preference). Also, as having been dealing with an S-Pen since 2013 with my Note 10.1 2014 edition and my first Note phone- the Note 3, it's not like the S-Pen hasn't gotten easier to get out in general with the assist press. If you have a rough lifestyle with phones like I do and they drop/fall/bang a lot, you most certainly need at least a tempered glass screen protector, and will likely end up with a cracked screen if a corner hits just the right way. This case was just OK as far as working with a tempered glass screen protector, the long sides of the phone's screen edge is just too exposed for my liking even with a screen protector (problem with all the cases except the Incipio and Unicorn). I think this would be perfect for someone's whose phone has an easier life than mine (or just more luck). 2
