Customer Reviews

Excellent power strip for European travelersWhen I travel in Europe I bring two cameras, a DVR, and a netbook computer. Each has a charger rated for 100-240 volts so no transformers are needed. With this surge strip I can charge everything overnight from one electric outlet in my B&B, hostel, or hotel room. Normally there is only one outlet available in a room so this power strip is really necessary. Sometimes I must unplug a lamp to have access to an outlet. The strip has six "universal" grounded outlets which accept American and European plugs. The cord has the continental European grounded plug so no plug adapter is needed. It also has an on-off switch and a resettable overload circuit breaker for safety.American power strips are rated for only 110 volts. They are a potential fire hazard when used with Europe's 240 volt electricity.5most versatile power strip We got this for our fifth trip to Bali, which uses Euro plugs and 220V current. As a serious underwater photographer I'm amazed I didn't get this sooner. I was using nearly every outlet on this every night, recharging my camera, light, image bank, etc. plus running my shaver and whatnot. It was up to the challenge, was surprisingly light, and the clever sockets did indeed accommodate a wide variety of plugs. Bringing this let us leave a bunch of adapters at home. And our hotel rooms often had just one outlet outside the bathroom, making this an essential item in our baggage. Yet here in the States you could use this just fine with this simple addition of one American plug adapter. Highly recommended. 5TRIPP LITE SUPER6OMNI Surge Strip 250V for traveling to France.I bought this to take with me on our family trip to Paris. I am SO happy that I did. I was able to plug in cell phones, iPods, camera battery charger and our laptop all at the same time. This plug has a six outlets and has a long six foot cord which you really need in France because the outlets are in the strangest places (half way up the wall, behind furniture, etc..) and they don't give you many outlets either. This was the best item I packed because without it, all of my electronics would have been useless in France! This strip worked perfect as we toured around France and we never had a problem with any of our electronics from using it. The outlet plugs were nice and snug and everything worked as expected. You do not need a converter or anything other than this strip. We plugged our American electronics into the strip and it worked great. If you are planning a trip to France, this is a must have!5Visiting Europe? Bring this Powerstrip with You for Ultimate ConvenienceIf you are visiting Europe from North America, you will immediately become aware that the voltage and plug systems do not match. In continental Europe, they use a different plug type than in the US, and, in addition, the voltage is running at 240V, rather than 110V. This brings up two problems, i.e., matching the plug type and matching the voltage level. For most modern electrical devices (camera battery chargers, electric toothbrush chargers, etc.), the voltage problem is not an issue, since they run at so-called "universal voltage," meaning 110-240V (to check this, look at the tiny lettering on the charging unit and see if the voltage is listed thusly; if it only says "110V," then it will not work in Europe without a convertor).Regardless, with the proliferation of electrical devices, even relatively short trips to Europe will be made with multiple devices that must be charged, and this is particularly true if you have two or more people, all using digital cameras. Even if one purchases all the plug adapters for these devices, finding enough wall outlets may be difficult, and then there is the issue of carrying all these plug adapters, which are bulky and sometimes, heavy. This power strip solves a couple of problems. First, it plugs directly into a continental Europe wall outlet, runs at 240V, and provides six outlets. But the doubly nice thing is that the plugs themselves are a multi-plug design, meaning you can plug your standard North American plugs directly into it without using additional adapters. So, by carrying this single device, you can basically take care of most all your electrical needs without resorting to multiple parts. One drawback is that, because the device is rated for 240V, the cable itself is a bit on the heavy side. But because it replaces a whole slew of adapters, and because of the convenience of bringing a single device, that issue is relatively easy to overlook. This is an EASY five star recommendation, and the great price makes it even more so!Important Note:It cannot be stressed too much that one MUST verify that any electrical device plugged into a European socket be rated as "110-240V." If not, your device will be shorted immediately, and will no longer function. This includes ANY type of recharger, computer adapter, etc. Most all modern devices are rated for universal use, but always check each device first before plugging them in. This information will be found printed in small letters (either on a sticker or embossed into the plastic itself) of each device.5Perfect if you move to Germany or France for an extended stay This is exactly what I was looking for. I moved between realms and it was a hassle to find the right power cords and converters for the many devices I brought along with my home office. But this works nicely for many places in Europe regardless of what power cord you bring along. 5Quality productneeded some quality power strips to use in Egypt. These are solid, and hold my american style plugs well. One or two of my cheaper chargers don't sit perfectly in the universal plug, but a cheap american to european prong adapter had them sitting snugly. The biggest surprise was how big these things are. On the positive side, this means I have had no issues with having to cram the plugs against each other. On the negative side, this makes for a less than travel friendly product. If you are going to be in one place for a while, these are the perfect power strips. If you are going to be moving around a lot, make sure you have some room in your bags, they are quite large.Price is a touch on the higher side, but within range for something that is quality. Better to spend a couple extra dollars on a power strip than to fry your expensive electronics!5Lots Of PlugsI bought a Tripp Lite Super6Omni Surge Strip 250 German France plug to go on a European vacation last summer. We didn't have to use it on the Queen Mary 2. The ship had outlets for American and British surge strips. But when we landed in Hamburg and toured Germany and Austria for ten days by rented car, the surge strip proved extremely useful. There are enough plugs for your laptop, your Ipad, your Ipod, and various batteries for digital cameras --- not to mention your European cell phone. I charged all these items every night. So I don't know how I could have traveled in Europe without it. The only criticism I might have is that it's so large that it's difficult to pack in your luggage.4Buy one before you take your next trip to EuropeWe just spent a couple of weeks at different apartments in Italy. This thing was very handy because we could plug it in once and make it our Central Power Station for each stay.If you travel to Europe often, you have seen that most places have limited empty sockets available. With this power strip, you only need ONE free plug and suddenly your power problems are over. The fact that you can plug in "normal" US-type twin blade or three prong grounded plugs, and also European plugs, means you only need to carry this one power strip with you on your travels.I would give it six stars if it it had different height (or staggered) sockets, so power supplies with 90 degree angle heads could be plugged in side by side. As it is built (all plugs at same height), you may have to rotate your power supplies around and mix them up, if you want to use all six sockets.5Great way to add more outlets for all of your gadgetsI bought this surge protector when I was going to Spain for a couple of months. I once broke a voltage converter on a previous trip to the Iberian peninsula, so I wasn't taking any chances this time. Not only did it protect my computer from all kinds of weird power surges, but it also gave me several much needed additional outlets (Spanish bedrooms, in my experience, only seem to have one or two outlets - not enough, in my opinion!). I also liked the fact that I didn't have to bother with plug converters. You can plug any kind of plug in, and as long as it can handle European voltage, you're all set. I have several appliances with plugs from different countries, and it was nice to be able to plug them all in at once. The cord is nice and long, so if the plug is in a weird spot in your bedroom, you can stretch it across the room (I speak from experience! :) ). Just don't plug it in a 120volt outlet.5Good multi country adapter. If you are coming to Europe with several N American devices, this is a good surge protector (WARNING: it is not small. it is the same size as a standard strip. You have been warned so you cannot complain). My only complaint is that N American plugs are a little loose. EU plugs fit in more snugly. But if you aren't moving the cord too much, you will be fine.Juli-12 addition: Just one warning. This will not ground your EU plugs. UK yes but EU no. The grounding is from a third pin which the EU plugs do not use. If grounding is important to you, this is not the power strip.4This is a truly excellent design. I'm stationed overseas in a 220v country ...This is a truly excellent design. I'm stationed overseas in a 220v country and I've just purchased my fourth (or fifth?). It's incredibly convenient to be able to plug my 120-220v adapters into the same surge with native German plugs. I can't speak for the surge capabilities thankfully, and hopefully won't have to.It does require a significant amount of force to insert the plugs. This is likely due to the mechanism inside that allows all the different types. It's a small price to pay and it holds the plug very securely.I highly recommend.5InvaluableI bought this surge strip for a trip to France to plug in the chargers for our cellphones, IPad, and camera. It fit easily into a 25" suitcase, and its weight was not a problem. It was tremendously useful during our river cruise and our stay in a Paris hotel, since neither room had enough outlets, and the ones they had were not conveniently placed. I like the universal design that accepts not only US but also various types of foreign plugs. That allowed us to plug our ship's tour audio units into the strip and plug the strip into the outlet they had occupied. At the hotel I was able to operate my CPAP off the strip as well without problems. This strip does not convert voltages. I did not need a converter because all my devices accept the needed range of voltages. This strip has a French/German plug on its fairly long cord, and it can handle the European voltage. It is sturdy and well made. I highly recommend it.5
