Customer Reviews

Perfect to fit big LED bulbs into smaller light fixtures These adapters work perfectly for their intended use. It is clearly stated they are made for LED/CFL lights, which normally do not generate much heat. Although they are clearly marked as heat resistant and fire-proof, I would contact TORCHSTAR to make sure they can handle the heat of incandescence bulbs before you them... In my opinion, after thorough examination and extended (10 hour) use with a 23 watt LED (Big Floodlight which generates a fair amount of heat), these adapters withstood it very well. 5Bulb ExtensionJust installed a LED bulb in a recessed can and it works fine. As one reviewer noted, if you are changing out can lights, you should check to see if the canister is adjustable and you may not need to add an extension to the bulb. In my case, the fixture is about 14 feet off the ground and I would have needed a taller ladder to safely work on the fixture. I went with the extension to avoid the hassle of finding another ladder.5Perfect for my front porch light socket. These work perfectly for the purpose I bought them for. What I bought them for is complicated to describe but here goes:My front porch light is on the same switch as my lights over the garage, so I cannot turn off the front porch light without also turning off the garage light. I leave the garage door lights on 24/7, but I like to shut off the front porch light for the summer months because it attracts insects, and the only way to do this is by removing the light bulb, Therefore I needed something to plug the empty light socket. I bought an outlet plug which screws into a light socket for this purpose, but it is very short and not easy to screw in or remove without getting my fingers uncomfortably close to the open socket. Then I found these extenders! They solved the problem. I screwed the little outlet plug into the extender (permanently) and now I can easily attach and remove the extender to plug up the empty light socket on my front porch. ( I have no intention of plugging anything into the outlet plug on the end of the extender - just needed to cap the empty light socket to prevent anyone from sticking a finger in it accidentally.) This probably is not what most people would use these extenders for, but they work like a dream for me!5Worked great in an older refrigeratorI purchased these so I could install new LED bulbs into an older refrigerator. The refrigerator used small appliance bulbs that I could no longer find, but all newer bulbs I tried had a base too large to fit into the socket. These extenders did the job perfectly. Others have commented on the threading with these, but I had no issues whatsoever. If I had a need for these anywhere else in my home, I would absolutely grab another set.5Built to Fail and Insult Your IntelligenceIt is obscene that this is rated for 1000w (who even has a 1000w lamp?) when the interconnects are built with something like 26ga or 28ga wire.Long story short, that tiny wire will serve better as a fuse than an interconnect. If you are using this with only the tiniest, lowest watt drawing lamps you can probably, maybe get by. If you are using it with a normal load (or the laughable 1000w load claim), best case scenario it ruptures immediately causing no harm. Worst case scenario that little wire heats up super hot and starts melting and burning things.1Old fixture problem?I got these after I switched my front door lamps to LED, and wanted the bulb a bit lower in the fixture. One worked great and the other didn't.It's not the fault of the extender, because I've had that problem before. I think my old fixture has the center conductor recessed a little through wear. Look at the image of the extender, see how flat the center contact is? I think it's not making a good connection. A glob of solder might cure that.I replaced my porch lights from 40 watt incandescent to 5 watt LED. Same brightness. But the LED bulb is much smaller, so they sit high in the fixture. Along comes the bulb extender, and `viola problem solved.4Good for LED/CFL but not incandescentThese extenders are for regular full-size light bulb threads. The body of the extender is made of plastic, so I wouldn't use them with incandescent bulbs that can get hot. I used them with 60-watt equivalent LED bulbs, which are cool enough so excess heat was not a problem.I was converting the light fixture on a ceiling fan from R20 incandescent bulbs to A19 LED bulbs. The light fixture uses small recessed bulb holders, like mini-"cans", which worked well with R20 bulbs that have a built-in reflector to throw the light (and heat) out of the recessed holder. However I wanted to use A19 LED bulbs that don't have a reflector (the R20 LED bulbs are still too pricey, in my opinion). I used these extenders to allow the A19 bulbs to stick out of the recessed mini-cans, not only to project more light from the A19 bulbs, but also to allow more airflow to keep the LED bulbs cool. The extenders worked well for that purpose. Although the bulbs stick out of the cans a little, it is not so much that they look weird.4pretty flimsy This was the only way to get some bulbs to fit the socket of our street light. Some bulbs bases are too wide to reach up inside the socket. The first one of these extender I tried when screwing in tight actually tore off the inside of the extender. The second one I screwed in less tight and it's ok. The seller gave me a refund on the non returnable item which is great. If not for the first one messing up I'd give it 5 stars. 3Broke before it was used.I was very excited when I got this product in the mail. I placed it on the light bulb in which I was going to use it with and instantly the internal connector broke right off and stayed connected to the light bulb. This is a very very cheap hunk of junk and I should have known as it was only just over $5. The saying is often true that you get what you pay for.1Worked well to get a photocell to "see the light".Simple device, but it seems to be made well enough and worked for what I needed it for. I had an outdoor light with a screw-in sunset sensor that would come on in anything but full sunset, wasting a lot of power every time it was cloudy. The problem was that that the photocell lined up with the frame of the housing and so was in shadow. By inserting one of these extenders, I was able to get the photocell positioned so that it could "see" through the glass panes and now it works much better. These extenders have a skirt that conforms nicely to the base of the bulb, which in my case unfortunately covered the photocell, but it was easy to make a notch with a coping saw to get around that, the plastic is not brittle and was easy to trim.5LED Bulb Extenders Work PerfectlyGood price, and they extend my LED bulbs perfectly.1) PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not leave bad feedback if you use these improperly. These CLEARLY state they are for LED bulbs. People have pictures of melted adapters after using these with incandescent bulbs. Since LED bulbs and incandescent bulbs have the same screw base, it is up to us, to use these correctly.I use these to extend a 'Y' adapter that holds TWO LED Flood Lights. Working perfectly. This eliminated the need to modify my light fixture. Family is very happy to have better lighting outside!WHY THIS WORKS AND DOESN'T MELT:2 x LED FLOOD = 28 watts ( very little heat back through the connector )1 INCANDESCENT FLOOD = 60 to 90 WATTs ( LOTS and LOTs of heat. Enough to melt plastic )If you have regular bulbs you must use the ceramic adapters. They are the only SAFE option. If you have already transitioned to LED - then THESE are a great option!5Completely solved problem of LED bulbs sitting too high up in recessed ceiling light fixtures...I have a lot of recessed ceiling lights in my home and recently decided to replace the existing bulbs with LED's. Turns out the approproate LED bulbs (that provide the right amount of lumens) are shorter than conventional bulbs by an inch or so. When an LED bulb is installed into the recessed fixture, the bulb sits too high up in the can which significantly reduces the light emitted into the room below. In some cases, even the open space above the fixture was exposed. So, as a test, I purchased this 2-pack of extender adapters from Torchstar and they have completely solved my problem. My new LED bulbs now fit into the recessed ceiling light fixtures at just the right position. I'll be getting more of these, but will go for the 6-packs to enjoy further saving.5
