Customer Reviews

Decent handle for the Tank CageI like it. The handle works perfect on the Tank Cage. The holes line up great. Not a huge fan of the foam though, would like to have seen a rubber handle instead of the cheap foam, but for the money, it's a good purchase.4Functional and affordableAfter I purchased this I realized that a camera cage is almost as necessary as a tripod in regards to filming if you plan to use a monitor, audio equipment or a matte box and more. It will provide a stable, durable platform for accessories much more than just a rail system. And if configured correctly, you can attach and detach within minutes. As for this particular cage, I think it is a great value. When I read the reviews I saw one here on amazon that complained the bars get in the way of cables for your monitor (on specific types of cameras). This is true. However, if you look at the four handles, they are easy to remove and doing so does not affect the strength or integrity. I removed the back left one so that the cable for my 7D could be inserted into the camera port. No problem.I've seen the more expensive cages like the red rock and so on. They are great. The design is much better than this one. They may also cost three times as much. I don't want to spend that kind of money right now. And I am not compromising by using this Kamerar as it works pretty much for my needs. I think the construction is decent. I think you can trust this will do a good job for basic needs. But if you are going to really be doing a lot of production (especially commercial) this may not be the right one for you as there is a little improvisation required. I would recommend it.4DOES NOT FIT BLACKMAGIC CINENA/PRODUCTION 4K Cameras! Non-standard screw hole sizes and layouts-Incompatible with ARRI standardsThis is supposedly designed for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera/Production 4K Camera body. The holes DON'T LINE UP, the wrong size screw holes are in the wrong locations and theres no way to mount the BM camera in this frame without covering the fan vents. BM cameras run very hot, the vents ALWAYS need to be unobstructed! Love the handles, but seriously were your machinists drunk or having a stroke when you drilled what seems to be randomly placed holes in this? "Uh oh, Franks hammered again and hes drilling holes in everything he sees...best just to leave him and let him have his fun. We'll thread whatever holes he drills and ship the product, and if customers complain well just tell them they're not using it right. I mean who cares? We got paid anyhow...customers are paper cups - disposable"Again, love the cheeseplate swiss rods but otherwise this is junk.2This is a War Tank!kamerar is a great company, I already had some of their products, but this one stands out! a really nice piece of hardware, great build quality like other kamerar's products, you could have some issues taking out the battery (I didn't, but I have a 5DMKIII which is a reference model for this design), so keep that in mind,5HEAVY duty. This is going to add some weight to your rig, so make sure your tripod head can handle it. It is now too heavy to counterbalance on my 701HDV.It gives me a ton of options for mounting mics, lights, monitors, etc. I had to remove a swiss rod to use the screen on my 60D, but it still works great. The thumbscrews on the cage are not ratcheting. I had a problem with the one on the right rod blocking the battery door. I had to put some washers under it so that it would snug down out of the way.I wish that some of the holes were either unthreaded 1/4" or more threaded 3/8" so I can bolt cold shoe adapters on without having them face the wrong way.Overall the quality is very good. I would recommend this to anyone looking to add a support system without breaking the bank.4Great CageLike all new endeavors, you're never sure what is a 'fair' price to pay for tools, etc. I was a little put off by the almost 200 price but am glad I got the higher quality all metal cage rather than the mostly metal one from the same company. I took the back left bar off so I could flip open my d5300 screen completely. I also have 2 Tascam dr 60d that I mount on top of the cage (and one ntg-2). I mounted the top handle off the right side (pointing down) so that I can hold the cage at a slightly different angle. I have no qualms about the quality and would advise anyone who wants a quality budget cage to get this one.5Most versatile cageThis is the best cage I have owned for any camera. I am using Sony full frame mirrorless cameras and they fit just right.5Great cage!Excellent value. Really nice build quality. Used it with my mono pod and as a handheld. Very please. Had a monitor and receiver pack attached with no worries. Used the rails with Kamerar's follow focus. Really made the day to have it.4This setup works pretty well with my t3iThis setup works pretty well with my t3i. I'm not sure why someone previously posted that you can't mount cables to this. I mounted my monitor with an hdmi cable fairly easily. The only drawback is that you can't get your battery out on a t3i without removing that camera. Overall, it works pretty well.5Tough gear**Update: I wanted to update this older review since I have had a chance to use it more. I now have a full shoulder rig and almost sold this since I wasn't really using it much...but then I purchased a V-mount battery plate and put it on the back half of the rails to see how it worked. I was pleasantly surprised by how useful it was. I traded out the rods for a black set and striped it down to just a follow focus and V-mount battery. Since I run the camera off the battery and never need to access the battery door on the camera, this solves that issue. I cancelled my BMCC order and am on the list for a BMPC, so I will let you know how that works with this cage when it comes in. Bottom line is this is a great cage if a cage is really what you need. I use this handheld, on a tripod, on a slider and on a jib mostly. No gear is perfect, but I am enjoying my "Tank". It's not light so make sure a "Tank" is what you need.**This was my first camera cage. I run a small video production business as a hobby-gone-horribly-wrong, so take this all into consideration.PROS:* Affordable...This is the best cage I could find for the money.* As the name "Tank" implies, it is very tough and sturdy. Nothing feels cheap or flimsy.* The fit and finish is very nice and I noticed no scratches or overly sharp edges. The packaging was decent and it was really easy to figure out how to set it all up.* The Tank will fit a T2i/T3i/T4i with battery grip or camera-only on a quick-plate. I hear it will fit a BMCC although mine is still on back-order so I was not able to confirm it.* This beast has so many attachment spots that you will never outgrow it.* The rods and tripod assembly are great quality just like the Tank. The rods are threaded on both sides so you can attach longer rods or use them in conjunction with other 15mm rigs.* The Tank is very versatile and configurable. I was able to flip sections, subtract rods and configure it to my specifications quickly and easily. You may need to get a little creative to make it perfect for your camera.Cons:* The red twist knobs are not ratchets, they are static and may stick out depending on how much you need to twist them. Ratcheting twist knobs would be awesome, but you can always upgrade them later.* This may not be the best rig for a Canon T2i/T3i/T4i (although it's what I use it for and will keep using it) for a few reasons. The battery cut-out on the bottom plate does not line up with the battery door on the camera (not sure what DSLR will work, maybe 5d/7d?), the Swiss rods interfere with the HDMI cable placement when using an external monitor, and the Swiss rods do not allow enough room to open the SD card slot. I was able to make all this usable by mounting the camera backwards on the Tank and removing one of the Swiss rods from the SD card slot side to fix all these issues. The Tank is still very stable with only three Swiss rods holding it together. The only problem I have not figured out yet is changing the battery while keeping the camera in the rig, I think an external battery option may be the best solution.Overall the Tank is an awesome affordable cage to build upon. The rods are very usable and allow for a follow-focus and matte box in the front and you will need another set of rods with an adapter for the rear if you want to turn it into a shoulder rig. I have a 7 inch monitor on a magic arm, a zoom recorder, matte-box, follow-focus, and there is still plenty of room to spare. The possibilities are endless. The pros outweigh the cons. I am certain this rig will outlive my camera.I hope this review helps you.5
