Customer Reviews

Nice and stout I had a smaller unit previously and the extendable handle bent and kinked and made the unit worthless. The handle on this on is much lager and stiffer, and should last a lot longer. I don't know that you could pick up a full 16lbs. with it. Would need to be something with flat surfaces and perfect contact. I've used it to pick up dropped crescent wrenches and such and unless you get the magnet on a flat surface, they tend to drop back off as you lift up. 5Great for us old guys who don't bend so good anymore. Handy to have around. Already saved me getting on my belly to retrieve dropped screws and other metal parts I seem to continually drop. Magnet seems strong enough to do the job so far. Can anyone explain the phenomenon of why nearly everything I drop makes a beeline under the nearest obstruction stopping just out of reach? 4Low Magnetic Power but Recovered. When the magnet arrived it measured 2 lbs of pickup power. I had another fairly strong magnet and "stroked" it to increase the power to 4.5 pounds. Magnets lose their power over time so obviously this one was quite low when it arrived.Google "stroking magnet" to learn how to do this. 4Definitely A Premium Material Quality & Feature Designed Telescopic Magnet... 5 For Price. I moved into my grandmothers' mobile - home with my mother 3yrs ago... During the ensuing years process of cleaning the interior place and exterior property up of junk from her passing latter husband, I had to dispose of a rotted soft wet moldy cardboard paper box full of rusted nails, screws, nuts, washers, and a bunch of other metal items (of varying shapes and sizes) etc., over to the dumpster container for disposal... Instead of doing the rational and simple easy thing by using the wheelbarrow to carry the box of trinkets over to the dumpster before lifting it up etc., I did what i always do instead and did the difficult macho thing of carrying the heavy box of metal items over to the container by hand... I knew that there was likely a 97% chance that the bottom of the soft wet moldy rotted cardboard paper box would have some type of catastrophic failure due to the cardboard paper peeling and flaking and the sides being virtually almost disintegrated... Well, The worst outcome of course did happen... While carrying the rotted moldy soft wet cardboard paper box full of rusted nails, screws, nuts, washers, and other metal items over to the dumpster container across our front parking driveway about 20ft away directly outside the workshop / carport area etc., I got to the dumpster container and realized the box was mostly empty as the bottom of the box had a gaping hole in its center that had slowly drained almost all the contents to the ground in a line starting from the door entry of our carport / workshop area and all the way to the dumpster container itself... I was confident that i had visually cleaned up about at least 99% of the contents that i possibly could... But 1% is unacceptable when the objects are screws, nails, and other sharp metal items that could puncture our or anybody else's tires or cause other serious physical bodily, home, or automobile harm and damage... So i needed to be 100% absolutely sure that i knew that i had everything and the area was safe for parking on and driving over again... After a friend introduced me to handheld telescopic retractable magnets and swore by them, I figured to get me a telescopic retractable magnet also to aid me in this cleanup task since i did not want to get down on my knees for hours and swipe my hands physically across the gravel - filled ground to make sure it was free of screws and nails and other metal landmines. After searching all over Amazon, I saw that there is hundreds of these retractable telescopic magnets of varying (lbs) strengths, sizes, shapes, cosmetic looks, prices etc... I actually found difficulty in choosing one, but once i saw this i became instantly attracted to the style of it... At this present time i only needed the retractable telescopic magnet for picking of screws, nails, nuts, washers etc., and so I did not need the most powerful strengthed and highest priced magnet available... I still have plans on buying a 30lb - 50lb strength capacity telescopic retractable magnet later on, but for now i was looking for a 5lb - 10lb range strength capacity magnet --- note: which would be more than suffice for picking up screws and other sorts of metal objects of that nature... I also did not want to spend a lot and was looking for a magnet for 15$ or under price range... After seeing this telescopic magnet for under 10$ and it appearing to be of higher quality metal craftsmanship with a feature design style via handle grip and a wider circular steel magnet base structure etc., I definitely had to buy this as it was just too good of a deal to pass up on... Most of the other telescopic retractable magnets in the equivalent price range point and pound strength capacity as this one, all appeared to be of cheap inferior flimsy tinfoil / sheetmetal aluminum material and not so good durable craftsmanship and also had a tiny micro circular magnet (w/ base) about the circular diameter of a pencil - top eraser. This telescopic retractable magnet is of outstanding craftsmanship and of superb high - quality metal materials... The magnet itself in circular diameter is about that of either a dime or a AG13 / LR44 battery, and that is pretty wide versus majority of others available... The magnet base is made out of thick solid steel while the telescopic rods are made out of either the same steel or a higher density aluminum metal material... The telescopic rods are extremely durable and stiff and stay in place once extracted or retracted... There is a long thick black rubberized plastic handle that is exactly 5.5" long, and on the handle is also a metal clip for attaching it to your clothing pocket or a belt etc... Once extracted, the total length of the telescopic retractable magnet is exactly 2ft - 10inches long and just under 3ft... The length is more than adequate for bipedal operation without having to break your spine becoming an anvertibred mamal again on all fours just to use it... The entire unit has a bit of heft to it also, which shows its quality in my opinion. The only negative, and this might just be me, but it seems that the magnet won't gather anything up if you hover the magnet above an item but rather instead the magnet needs to be in direct physical contact with the outside ground or interior floor while skimming an area side - too - side or front - too - back for the magnet to actually catch onto and lift anything up.When i used this outside for my aforementioned purpose of picking up small metal debris such as screws and nails etc., I couldn't pick anything up at all whatsoever... The only conclusions for this outcome was that A) I had successfully cleaned everything up 100% during the initial pickup process by hand and eye, and thus there is nothing remaining on the ground to be picked up... Or, B) the reason the magnet did not get anything was that it was due to there being heavy rain and a bunch of fallen leaves and stick twigs and other brush from the trees on the ground and any item that did exist is buried etc... Or, C) Anything that did still exist and everything that was metal from the box was all rusted and corroded etc., did not have enough magnetic energy to make a contact with the magnet... I tried multiple passes across every inch of the entire square area by skimming the magnet hovered about .5" - 1" slightly above the ground and also in direct contact with the ground and still could not lift anything up... After going inside i dumped some screws and nails and other metal objects such as fingernail clippers etc., onto the ground and the magnet did its job at about .5" - 1" hovered off the ground directly above object --- note: but the best and instant immediate results came when i made direct contact between the metal objects with the magnet itself... Regardless, I will soon be going outside again to skim the ground when it is sunny and dry and have the ground raked up of the leaves and stick brush.Overall (Below),This is an excellent telescopic retractable magnet for virtually any small pickup task that you can think of... I highly recommend this unto others... It works fabulous and the magnet is heavy duty and super strong... The price is amazing considering the quality of material, craftsmanship, and the design features that you get... You can carry this wherever you go... You can even use it as a self - defense baton in a situation against an assailing attacker and definitely will hurt and injure the suspect --- note: albeit probably (most likely) a single time application in those roles if the rod is extracted outwards as the rod would shatter with the amount of force required to be effective with a couple of repeated hits in those situations, but feel it wouldn't break if you use this like a Kubanton with the rod retracted inside... This magnet feels great in my hand and both comfortable and relaxing to handle for periods of time... The rod does not extract and retract unless you make it do so... This is definitely a premium telescopic retractable handheld magnet... I have no regrets and am really satisfied with it... I would absolutely buy this again if something ever happened to it physically or the magnet died out. 5No better than the rest I thought paying a better price I would get a better magnet it lasted six months before it pulled apart no better than any other cheap $3 magnet I emailed them have not heard nothing supposed to be a year warranty 1Good for its purpose Made a few purchases with these telescoping magnets, but always had bad results maybe due to working around water. The smaller ones holds up very well around water picking up razors being job related. This one Is kept for home use without being around water. Strong magnet, reasonable length. 5Saves a lot of bending-over I have a bunch of these spread around the house. At age 85, I don't enjoy picking small metallic things up off the floor as much as I did fifty years ago. These save a lot of cursing and grunting. 5Not just for mechanics! I use this to pick up straight pins, bobby pins, dropped hearing aid batteries, etc. It telescopes easily both ways and does what it supposed to do. I use this all the time ( lots of kids who knock things off of other things) It came in handy when I was hanging some pictures, too. 5Definately not a 5lb magnet!!! Purchased 3 of these. None would pickup a good size crescent wrench from ground level. A wrench that most likely weights 1lb. The magnet on this item is the size of the top of a hearing aid battery. The 3 stars is for the larger handle only. To big for pocket but more for a toolbox. 3Love this telescoping magnet! Once in a blue moon I lose a needle while cross stitching. Most times I find them, but when I don t I worry about my cat finding it before I do. I finally decided to get this after a recent needle loss while I was sitting on my bed stitching. Couldn t find it anywhere. Got this and started running it around and under edge of bed. (Which, mind you I had vacuumed thoroughly.) Darned if this magnet didn t find it! Definitely a blessing to have this! 5
