Customer Reviews

Great lens, been using Tamron for years love it. This is the latest and greatest cant wait to go out to the nature with it.Great lens, been using Tamron for years love it. This is the latest and greatest cant wait to go out to the nature with it. I started with the first Tamron wide range all around Lens 18-270, then they came out with a newer 16-300 and now this 18-400. I hate changing lenses on the camera and in reality this never works when you see a nice bird that you need to zoom on to by the time you change lens its gone. and if you keep the zoom lens all the time you cant take wide panoramic scenery shots.I used to have 3 lenses but no more just have one and never take it off. I love it. The picture quality is great and the image stabilizer is great. Its not very heavy and really useful.5Absolutely outstandingI m using this guy on a Nikon D7200 and in my book it is amazing. On a DX camera it is the equivalent of a 27-600 zoom and that range is just crazy. Crank it in for wide shots of landscapes, roll it to 85 for portraits, cool, then reach out with the 400 and be amazed. I m sure there are pros who have criticisms and that s cool, but for me it is almost magic. It has not been off my camera since I got it. It works for every situation. I suppose the F6.3 at 400 would create a problem in low light, but I can sit in a dark living room and snap 400mm shots of my TV screen and not have to max out my ISO. I paid $649 for this dude and it may be the best money I ve ever spent. Good job Tamron!! Love it.5Great zoom!!This lens is amazing. While not a professional photographer I take several thousand pictures for family, friends, vacations and weddings all with this one lens. I have the 16-300 Tamron lens prior but with my new canon 80D the live view did not work. This new Tamron 18-400 works perfect. Highly recommend it as a GREAT all round single multi purpose lens. This kit from Ritz Camera is great. If your looking for a great all round zoom lens you can t go wrong here.5Focus is not too good. This lens length is exactly what we were looking for; however, the focus on it is almost just as bad as a1998 point and shoot. For the cost, I definitely expected more. We used it for about a month while traveling through Europe. I noticed that it wasn't focusing because I would export them to my iPad, so we kept playing with the settings to see what we could do. Now that I am home and looking at the images on the camera, I still can't use many of them. It's a shame because although this is an "intermediate" lens this is the first lens we've spent this kind of money on. Almost seems wasted. Does anyone have tips or has experienced something similar? On the bright side, I like the goodies that came with the lens. However, the bag barely fits the lens and the lens cap keeper came off after just a week of using. I was so excited for the keeper because it's annoying having to carry it or trying to find it afterwards.3Great all-purpose lense for natureLove this lense. Really did not want to spend the money, but I love to walk in the woods and take nature photos. I was so sick of having to stop and change lenses all the time if I wanted to take a close up instead of a landscape scene. The 400 mm gets me right up close to wildlife. Took a beautiful shot of the winter sky the other evening, hand held, no blur.5One lens that does it all!I love the reach of this lens. I usually bring my camera with me wherever I go, and this is my go to lens. I love how I can bring this lens with me and I can do anything from snapping a cute portrait of my kids, to getting some action shots of my son on the baseball field, to capturing an awesome shot of a Yellow-bellied woodpecker...ALL in the same day with ONE lens. I researched and read all the reviews before purchasing this lens, and for the photography hobbyist like myself I think it is perfect. I know a lot of pro photographers mentioned a few minor flaws in the quality of photos with this lens, but I do not see them...so i figure none of my friends or family will be able to see them either. My only complaint with this lens is the weight...it is heavy. I have since invested in a mono-pod to help with camera shake, because I do find I sometimes have soft images when zoomed all the way out.5I m extremely pleased with this lensI m extremely pleased with this lens. I ve owned the 18-270 and tried the 16-300; this one is MUCH sharper than either of them. If you re looking for a good solid walk around lens, this is it! The added bonus items for no additional charge is just icing on the cake!5Great all purpose lensGreat all purpose lens for my Nikon D3400. I take a lot of wildlife shots and missed many swapping between my 18-55 and 55-300 Nikon lenses. I took comparison pictures at 18 and 400 using the Tamron and 18 and 300 using mt Nikon lenses. From my admittedly amateur perspective the picture quality is identical and the 400 provides a noticeable difference from the 300. Its not 33% closer but it is clearly closer, maybe 5 - 10 %. As mentioned in other reviews this lens is heavy, maybe 10 ounces more than the Nikon 55-300 and the zoom ring has a 'sticky' spot but neither of these issues bother me at all. This is now my go to lens for travel and everyday use. I'm looking forward to never missing another shot due to lens swapping.5I love landscape and animal/bird photographyAfter reading a lot of reviews of this lens, I decided to go ahead and purchase it to replace my old Tamron 18-270 lens. When I unboxed it, the first thing I noticed was how heavy the lens was! It took me a couple weeks to get use to this extra weight and to be able to hold it steady when taking pictures. Having used it now for about 4 weeks I'm totally impressed with the quality and sharpness of the pictures I've taken. I love landscape and animal/bird photography. This lens has been excellent. My only comment about the kit I purchased is that you really need to go purchase good quality lens filters (ie UV or Polarizer). The filters that came with this purchase are very cheap and I had a hard time getting the Tamron to focus past 300mm when using them. I highly recommend the Tamron 18-400!5One lens to handle most everythingso far this has been a great purchase, haven't had to really play with it much but the zoom is crazy good and so is the VC. I am very amateur, but i really appreciate the ability to take a photo of my kid close up and then take another of wildlife in the distance. using it on a Nikon D5200. seems much better constructed than my old tamron 70-300 (non VC), and is not excessively large or heavy.will update when i have more time on it.12/30/17One thing to note, you can't use the cameras built in flash, will leave a shadow. Get a cheap Speedlite and you should be fine.Do notice that the zoom ring has different resistance throughout it's travel. Still love the lens.10/28/19Years in still love this lens on my D300S, but recently got a full frame D610 now I'm wishing I would have gotten the FF Nikon 28-300 instead5
