Customer Reviews

Battery life is poorI like the Bandit. In fact I bought 2. But the reason I bought a second one is because after just a few weeks of use, the battery life degrades severely and is nowhere near it's rated life. I got the second one so I could rotate them: always have one on the charger and swap them when one dies. Except that they die quicker than they charge, so I would need at least a 3rd one to make that system work. I ended up buying a beefy light from Coast to use as a backup.I love how small these are, how light and unobtrusive it is. They're very comfortable and much nicer to wear than the other styles of heavy/bulky headlights out there. I'm a diesel tech and the brightness is perfect for what I do. I just wish I could depend on them more.3Would not recommend for serious use.First thing, there s lots of great things about this headlamp. Light weight, compact, versatile. The output of light is awesome for hands free work it s a flood type light not a spot which is awesome. It s great around house or for small quick uses. Where the light let me down is when I needed it most. I have two of these bandits, I took both of them with me on a hunting trip in the mid west, the first day after less than an hour of use they were both dead. I guess it s the temperature that got to them but neither one would turn on. When I returned home and went to charge them up again, they turn on fine in the warmth of my house before charging. Luckily I had my AAA Petzel hand lamp to get me through the rest of the trip. (Which I have still yet to change batteries in) I really like these little bandits, but them going dead on my trip was discouraging. They will also go dead if they sit for too long. If streamlight could make a AAA battery version, I d be all over it the rechargeable battery is a real down fall for these lights. Take it for what it s worth.3Used for HVAC. I love it.I love it! The light is just right for working in dark, cramped locations. Great example of a real company making an affordable yet excellent headlamp. So lightweight and low-profile. Other headlamps I ve tried are brighter (99% of the time this is unnecessary and y all know it). Other headlamps I ve tried hold bigger, immediately replaceable batteries but then there is an additional weight or bulk that makes the light annoying to wear.Since I use this for HVAC work, I stick it on the charger in my work truck when it s low no biggy. I thought I might be annoyed that I couldn t just pop in an 18650 but the reduction in weight and bulk MORE than makes up for it. Also, I ve always got at least one other handheld torch in my tool bag so I m never truly at risk of having my day screwed up by a dead battery. If you re really worried about running out of juice at the wrong time, buy two of these they are so light and compact you can carry an extra without any more inconvenience than carrying an extra battery. Seriously, the whole thing is only a little bigger than one 18650 and possibly lighter!5very nice so far5-29-18 initial impressionsmine came in the mail the other day. I really like it. the thing is very light weight so unlike some headlamps does not feel heavy on my head. I did not like the rectangular shape in the pictures but it casts a very nice light with both the bright setting and the not bright setting. I believe the 180 lumens it claims. Unlike many Chinese flashlights with fantasy numbers, this one appears to be real lumens and not Chinese lumens.my only real gripe with it is the plastic clip that you can put on a hat brim. I have had a number of similar clips that were made of plastic and they all failed eventually. However, this one appears to be quite sturdy so might hold up.5Reliable! And I love the Cap Clip!I was drawn to this light for reasons that you can clip it on to a baseball cap! It comes with a head strap but I love the cap clip feature the most! I use this for work and it sure works well. The fact that it s RECHARGEABLE is a major Plus for me! It s compact but it can output a decent amount of light. There are 2 brightness mode settings which works great. The only minor down size is that with prolong use of a steady constant stream of light; just like any other flashlight, will drain the battery after a good amount of time. There is no indicator (like light dimming) when the battery is low. It would just simply go off after giving as much light output it can. But no worries as it is a reliable rechargeable light. Overall, it works great for me!5Smooth even flood light Great flood light for specific purposes. It produces a wide and incredibly even spread of light with no noticeable hot spot. It produces light like you have a 3 foot long fluorescent tube on your head. It doesn't throw very far but the even light works great for close up tasks. Great for working on cars, tying fishing knots, and any close up work where you don't want shadows or bright spots. Also works great for lighting up a tent. Battery doesn't last long and it abruptly shuts off without warning so you need a backup light or you could be stranded. This would be great with a replaceable 18650 battery. 4Toughest Light Duty head light I veThis lil guy has lived on my hard hat for about a year and a half and is still going strong, I m a Papermill operator and shift worker. It s been rained on, sprayed with black & white liquor, headbutts pipes and pokes regularly and hasn t let me down. I ve charged it at least 30-40 times and still get about and hour and a half on high. I have a flashlight for most situations but use this a lot while making my rounds or turning valves. It adds literally no weight to my hard hat and has a small footprint. I ve bought one for a back up and bought one of the tan/green models for walking to/from my deer stand. I love these lil lights and HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!5like, really) and incredibly smallShocking blight on the high setting (.... like, really) and incredibly small. The stated burn times, on high and low power, seem close to optimal. 2+ hrs on the super-bright setting seems like plenty. I have not tested in real-world conditions, but I think that I ll only need high for running or biking, or some task involving other people. In this case 2 hrs is plenty. The low setting seems like it may be plenty of light got more extended activities like hiking, preparing or meals when camping, etc.In most situations that I can envision, I ll be near a source to recharge with a USB. Even for planned multi-day hikes, I usually take a small, portable, battery. And solar is always an option, though I have not found it to be worth they $ and hassle. Actually, considering the (low) cost and tiny size, it may make sense to just bring a primary and a backup in certain situations.Appears to be very well made. Steamlight has shown themselves to be a realizable, quality, company over many years.5How to solve strobe problem.Update:6/10/18 out of the blue one of mine started strobe flashing a feature it doesn t have so instead of just clicking it on after clicking it off. I simply clicked and held the button for about 20 seconds then I released the button and clicked it on and it s working normal again.Original review: I conducted a time test and fully charged the light last 1 1/2 hours on high and 3 on low but low isn t bright enough for older mechanics, when I was in my 30 s low would ve been sufficient but not now. I suggest getting three so if you have a big job you want run out of light.Get the less expensive one because the main things I read about the bad reviews is the more expensive camo ones must have a strobe light that get Permanetly stuck in the strobe mode. As a mechanic I don t need a strobe light. The cheapest one doesn t come with a strobe setting, only low and high.Pros: -Brightness on high is great and wide but last 1 1/2 hours on bright.- You don t need to click through both settings because after you click it on to the setting that you prefer by the time you take you hand away that the next time you click the button it goes straight to the off position no matter if you have it set on low or high.In other words if you have it set to low and you need to turn it off a minute later, you don t need click up to the high beam position and then click it again to turn it off. You will see.l what I m talking about.- Works great on a hat, it s so light until you don t even know it s there.-Super lightweightCons:-low beam isn t bright enough enough for older guys about the age of 40.- the charge last only 1 1/2 hours on high and 3 on low but low isn t bright enough for me.4Great Ultralight Head-Mounted FloodlightI bought the Bandit despite already owning a focused headlight that is considerably brighter, but also considerably heavier. The focused spot, while useful for distant spotting at night, was not ideal for just walking around in the dark, either outdoors or inside. My impression is that the Bandit is perfect for that. I read some reviews that say that the headband was too thin and loose, but found the adjustable band to be perfect for holding up the Bandit, which weighs in at just over an ounce. I haven't tried the cap mount yet.I plan to use the light on low, not having any need so far for the bright setting. I tested the light for low light level operating time and got 6.5 hours from the first charge and 7 hours from the second. Possibly the operating time will increase more with recurring cycles. I also measured the output light (lux) level over the second operating trial a short distance from the light. Starting at 100%, the light declined steadily to about 12% at shutdown after 7 hours. This is not as bad as it sounds, however, because the eye's perception of brightness is logarithmic, more like a cube root of the light level, so the perceived brightness at 7 hours was more like half of the perceived brightness at the start. If the light is used up close or in dark adapted conditions at night, it provides adequate light to both read or work on things close up and to navigate safely through obstacles. The information on the paper provided with the Bandit appears to have errors. It indicates a charge time of 1.5 hours with a 1000 ma draw. I measured a maximum charging current about 200 ma while using a charger that could supply 2000 ma. Also, the charging time in both trials was about 2.5 hours. The information supplied by Streamlight on the Amazon webpage appears to be a better match with reality, indicating a 450 mah battery that requires 2.5 hours for charging. With a 200 ma charging current dwindling down to about 10 ma at the end of charge, a time of 2.5 hours is very reasonable for that mah rating..Although I really like the light, I wish that it had a slightly larger battery to extend the usable operating time to 12 hours or so. Hopefully, it will get closer to the claimed 9.5 hour operating time as the battery gets broken in.5One of my best picks on amazon One of my best picks on amazon .....Far left picture iPhone no flash center picture 50% far right picture 100%5
