Onlly works with low resolution MonitorsI have a new Mac Pro 2019 with the Radeon 580x Graphic card. I tried to connect the Apple Cinema 30" LCD Monitor which originally came with my Mac Pro 2019 to the Mac Pro. It did not work and Apple Support could not help me. I tried to connect it via DVI to HDMI and DVI to ThunderBolt - Nothing worked. If someone out there has an answer, I'd love to hear it. Actually, I see now, this product only works with low resolution monitors1Doesn't work.Didn't work. But I thought it was the PC's fault, so I submitted an RMA on the entire machine. 3 weeks later a replacement arrives and still no video. At that point I borrowed an HDMI native monitor from a friend and lo and behold, the pc worked just fine.I've tried this adapter with 2 laptops and a desktop, with no video on any of them.1Works-good priceI've learned to stay away from adaptors priced at either extreme of the price range. The very expensive ones tend to be the same units as the midprice ones but with different labels. The very low end units tend to have low product quality/high failure rate.I've had good service from Startech products, and this adaptor performs as expected for a reasonable price. You can find ones without any cord length but those tend to block ports near the HDMI port.The signal from HDMI is the same as DVI-D, so a straight through adaptor is a fine way to connect, say a monitor with DVI-D input and no HDMI to a PC with an HDMI output and no DVI-D.5Small, simple, worksAll of the DVI-D pins are here. The only thing missing are the DVI-I pins. That's a cross on the side instead of a single line, and in that cross's corners would be analog (VGA) pins. No problem.For HDMI, it's missing pins 13 and 14, which don't exist on DVI-D. Those would be CEC (remote control signals) and RES (reserved for audio return or 100-mbit ethernet).Construction is clean and solid. No excess weight. Connectors are smooth.5Perfect product for HDMI to DVI Used this product with both my laptop at client sites & my raspberry pi -- works perfectlyThis is a great product if you have older monitors & projectors that you must work with .Quality is good. Recommend keeping this product in your laptop bag when traveling 5Connected my old Cinema Display to my 2017 MacBook Pro.I wasn't certain if this would do the trick, as I'd heard varying degrees of success trying to connect an old A1081 Cinema Display to a new USB-C MacBook. This coupled with a Cable Matters USB-C to 4K HDMI Multiport Adapter allows me to use the display as usually without jumping thru many hoops. I was quite happy as it worked first try, after hearing some stories of having to scrap and purchase a new monitor.5Worked and good build qualityThe performance of a short cable like this is probably not a big deal but this did work. The thing I find with some of these cables is that the fit is really tight or lose. The quality of this was good and it was easy to plug and unplug it the many times I did. I used it to troubleshoot a video issue I had as this allowed me to bypass a DVI switch I had in my amplifier. I installed and removed it many times.5Works perfectly to connect my Helios 300 to older DVI monitorWorks perfectly to connect my Helios 300 to my older Samsung monitor which only provides VGA and DVI connections. Also, there is often a severe problem with the adapter blocking access to other sockets on the PC which are too close to the HDMI. This product solves both problems very effectively.In case you can't tell from the description and picture, the small connector fits right into the HDMI socket on the PC, and the DVI-to-DVI cable from the monitor fits right into the large connector on this gadget. If for some reason you have the opposite problem (your monitor only has HDMI and your PC only has DVI), this gadget would work just as well plugged in the opposite direction into the monitor instead of the PC, again using a DVI-to-DVI cable.5
