Customer Reviews

Absolute junk. Orderd two of these. One didn t even work right out of the box. The second one lasted just about 31 days. Just enough time to be past the return date. Absolute junk. 1Perfect when you need high rate with a lift of 8 ft I am using this pump to keep water that runs down the basement access door steps from coming in the house. The drain is not so good so I can have 3" of water pretty quick. This pump checks for water every so often (about 30 sec) and if there is water present, it is gone in less than a minute. Quiet, reliable and fast. Very much worth the cost. 5Not impressed I've had two of these pumps. The first lasted 5-6 years, maybe 15-20 storms that produced enough water in the basement for the pump to do really its work, but the sensor was inconsistent. The second one has lasted less than 8 months, maybe a half dozen big rainstorms. I'm sitting here typing as the basement floods for the second time in two days. The pump hasn't cycled to test itself in over a month, and it's not coming on now. Replugging it does no good. These pumps are way too expensive to perform so poorly. 1Good pump but now you have to pay extra for features that were included standard with earlier models I have had a few of these over the past 10 years or so, used to remove water from a pool cover. When the one I purchased approx. 5 years ago gave out, I bought a new one. The one I purchased has a very short cord and did not come with the base that allows you to set it up correctly on a pool cover (luckily I had a few spares from prior pumps that went out). Noticed that Rule now offers this model with a 24 foot cord for $30 extra, and you can buy the base for $28. These factors make this an expensive pump to use for a pool cover, given that it won't last more than a few seasons at most (and that is keeping it unplugged most of the time so the sensor isn't cycling every minute checking for water). Also noticed that the pump does not specifically state that is can/should be used for pool covers. As far as function, this pump is very good/strong clearing water off a pool cover, and having the sensing feature is a game-changer. You can leave it plugged in all the time if you dare, or do like I do and check the weather, and if any chance of precipitation then I plug it in. Once the rain hits it will clear it off your cover quickly, then shutoff leaving just a small amount of water remaining under the pump. You will definitely need the base, and can get away with the short cord by using another extension cord. 3I purchased this pump in November of 2017 to be ... I purchased this pump in November of 2017 to be used as a pool cover pump. This pump quit working in February of 2018. I contacted Rule customer service on 02/23/18 and was told that because I used this pump outside on a pool cover that the warranty was voided. 1Works as advertised. So far has worked according to advertisement. It used to come with the blue pool-attachment that now cost an additional $24. However, I was able to retro-fit the one from the previous pump. It is quite ironic that this came up under (pool cover pump) on the web site, yet the info that comes with the pump states that it is for "clear water" only. Every pool owner knows that any water in the cover is never clean. Sure hope this does'nt effect the warranty. 5Typed in pool cover pumps and this one showed up ... Typed in pool cover pumps and this one showed up, bought and quite working after once -- used only to remove water on pool cover but did not leave on cover and stored outside but under cover. Believe this unit is not design outside use since the top screws were showing rust and it was never submerge. It was expose to a heavy rain when I drained the water first time. Since I used for pool over drainage they are denying warranty. 1Bought this and it worked properly for one half a ... Bought this and it worked properly for one half a summer. Gets moisture in it then won't work untill you pull it apart and dry out. This is the second one ive owned. First one came with my pool cover and worked well for 5 years. This one has been total junk! 1The good: automatic operation I've been using this (and earlier versions of this) as a pool cover pump for about a dozen years. I also use it to drain our hot tub once or twice a year. The good: automatic operation, good capacity, simple to deploy and use. Really is fully submersible. The bad: I seldom get more than 3 years out of a pump, and often only 2 before it fails, usually by blowing the GFI repeatedly. There is little warning of failure, so I end up with standing water on the pool cover with no working pump until I get a new one.The new version does not come with the base the old one did (Rule Replacement Strainer Base f/Pool Cover Pump), but luckily, the old base fits and I have 5 of them now from older, failed pumps. The new base that ships with the pump will actually be better for the hot tub.Rule apparently no longer calls these pool cover pumps as of June 2014, although they still work great for that. Perhaps it is because the pumps don't weather well and they got a lot of warranty claims? If the pump had a better average life and Rule still supported them as pool cover pumps, I'd rate it higher. 3great for boats! I have been using a Rule A53 Series 1800 pump on my boat since 1998. The first one I purchased worked continuously until I sold my boat in 2003, and is likely still working. From 2004 to the present I have purchased about 5 Rule A53 Series 1800 pumps like this in sump pump damp basement conditions and found them to last on average 3 years. Why these land-based conditions might in some way be worse than typical marine applications, I do not know. Anyway, 3 years is ok, as I have no boat to sink. 5
