Customer Reviews

Exceptional value with a few annoyancesWith this latest generation or products Samyang/Rokinon is showing is ready to take on the big names, optically speaking. After taking over one hundred pictures with this lens, I feel I can give a fairly good review of its performance.Pros: * Tack sharp at all apertures * Silky, buttery smooth bokeh * Macro functionality is absolutely wonderful * Color rendition is very well done. * No fringing or CA whatsoeverBut it's not without its faults. They are minor and aren't related to the wonderful optics, IMO, but they are worth mentioningCons: * The provided lens hood is a joke. It will not stay in place and fall off on its own. * The aperture ring is very jaggy and unsubtle * It's rather heavy and long (relative to the size of an X-E2 body), so don't expect this to be your walk-about/candid workhorse lens.Overall, though, Samyang/Rokinon have done a fantastic job with this lens. If you are looking for a decently fast, ~150mm (Fuji equivalent) prime for a fair price, this lens should be in your top-3 shopping list.4Feel of quality, very very sharp. You must realize that this is a manual lens. In macro work, this is normally not a problem. It took me a while to understand that even the f-stop values are not transmitted. Sony thinks it is f/4 all the time. This is not a problem, either. Normally you set the aperture for the required DoF and that's it.I really like the feel of quality around it.It is very sharp. According to tests, its overall optical performance is excellent.I chose this lens for the value. Quality/price was right for me. Autofocus? Yes, you miss it for a while when it is not there. Not a deal breaker for me.4Great lens!Very nice lens. Great build quality and very easy to focus on subjects using the manual focus on my a6000. Very sharp also. One minor issue is that there is a tiny bit of play between the lens and camera body, so when focusing, you feel a slight movement between the two. Not bad, and I actually have gotten used to it, so not a big deal, but something that I was put off about at first (why I gave it 4 stars). Also, a good tripod collar is needed, but it does not come with one. You need a 72mm inside diameter collar. I bought one for the Canon 100mm F2.8L macro lens and it fits nicely. I have attached two pictures to show what I mean.4Awesome macro lens for Sony.I bought the Pentax one because it was way cheaper. Added a quality adapter and it was ready for use.It is a wonderful Macro lens. Also an excellent medium telephoto. Using it at night is a pleasure at f2.8.Build quality is excellent. Focus ring is long, precise and comfortable.Optically is excellent. Sharp at all apertures. Well controlled flare and CA. Nice bokeh below f4.All pictures are straight from the camera. The lizard one is cropped the real size.5manual focus lens with great optical qualities and ease of use.I bought this lens to use on an assignment photographing groups of small chemical ampoules. The ampoules were about an inch high and had labels with fine type on them. The lens was used on a Sony A7Rii and did a magnificent job resolving details. I did the same job a year earlier with a Sigma 70mm f2.8 Macro lens on a Nikon D810 and the Rokinon/Sony combination was visibly better. The extra reach of a 100mm macro over that of a 70mm or a 55mm is noticeable in that one can have more space between the subjects and the front of the lens. This makes lighting easier and composition more flexible. I would not hesitate to buy this lens again. It's also darn good for portraits. Keep in mind that this is a manual lens with no electronic connections to the camera. You will have to focus it by turning a ring and assessing the sharpness on your screen. You will have to depend on the A or P setting of your camera for automatic exposure or calculate your own manual exposures. Easy work for me after years of working in macro with medium format cameras and bellows attachments. Maybe not so easy for the kinder-digi who have been raised on automated digital cameras. Bottom line? The lens is optically and mechanically very, very good.5Heavy good quality lensIf you don t mind the weight, this lens gives excellent photos. Because macro photography is mostly manual, lack of autofocus was not that important to me. Tripod is essential.4Amazing!!For the price of this lens, this is an amazing thing to have in your collection. Before this, I never did Macro but now it's almost all I photography because it's so fun. The lens works perfectly and is sharp and clear. You can also use it as a 100mm telephoto as well. One of the best photos I've ever taken was using this lens as a telephoto. I wish they offered it in 2x magnification though.Lens is fully manual. I set it in Ap Priority mode and adjust the Fstop and focus myself on my Sony A7Rii. It can be tough to use if you have never used a manual focus lens before but it's easy to get the hang of.5Amazing Lens - Great Bokeh - I love itSo, I wanted to have a macro in my bag and I've used Rokinon before (wide angle) on Canon. I saw the reviews on this and decided to purchase. I took it out of the box yesterday at about 5 pm, slapped it on my Sony a7Riii and went hunting for subjects. It was amazing right away. I shot a picture of my cat (of course he was moving around) and thought... WHOA.... that's fun! So I took a walk around town and just shot what I saw. I was absolutely amazed. You can clearly see the DoF in the eyesight when you adjust the aperture ring. Makes it super easy to get that look you're after. In just a couple hours I got the shots I've included in this review (with minor color alterations in Photoshop). The lens itself is a little heavy, but I like that, because I shoot 99% of the time handheld. All those shots are handheld, so they might be a little soft. The focus ring is easy to use (it's pretty wide) and very smooth. The build of the lens seems solid and I have no complaints. I'm planning on using it for portrait photography as soon as I can because I think it will give nice bokeh for those shots as well. The lens came with a bag and lens cap of course, and instruction manual that I just tossed aside. The only con (if you can call it that) is that it doesn't auto-focus, but I knew that when I bought it. Other than that minor thing, I love the lens so far. I can't wait to try it on a human subject. My overall first impression was that it's amazing and would make a great addition to anyone's lens arsenal.5the best lens i could ask for, from Macro to portraitlike OMFG , have you guys seen the reaction of patrick from spongebob?thats how impressed i am using it with sony a6000i know some peoples don't like it because its a little heavy but for me that weight helps me to not move my hands a lot (shake)5Good lens! Macro capability is great for product shots Good lens! Macro capability is great for product shots. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that it was also available as a cine lens with geared focus and click-less aperture rings until after ordering or I would have purchased that instead. 4Great BokehI love macro lenses and was very pleased to find this fully manual lens for my Sony NEX-6. It is sharp with good contrast. It has simple to operate controls. The aperture control has strong detents so you can tell where you are set. And the focus is smooth and accurate. Plus, the price is right.5
