Customer Reviews

Amazon.com (seller) doesn't sell Monoprice brand cables, but instead genericsWhat I received were generic cables (1 ft and 7 ft), not a Monoprice brand one, rated for 250 MHz. Not that the last bit actually matters since that's the CAT6 optimal bandwidth anyways. If it matters, Amazon itself was the seller. Tested the cables and the work fine. 3Difficult to UnplugI wanted two short Cat6 Ethernet Cables for a new setup I have here, and these looked good. They plug in fine, but if you have to remove them, it is extremely difficult, at least it was for me. I ditched them and purchased another brand, and they work great. I do remember reading reviews on the Monoprice cables, and there was at least one reviewer that had the same problem. Thought I would try them anyway, and am sorry I did. 1perfect sizeI bought this cord because I only needed a piece less than a foot long and didn't want a huge ugly cord out in the open. This worked perfect for what I needed it for. Speed is fast and seems very well made and durable. Great item happy with purchase. 5Great quality, easy so run through conduitAfter trying many more complicated and expensive solutions to get a network connection across my house, I finally decided to just run a cable through the attic. As expected, I went from a 1.3 megabit WiFi connection to 1 gigabit in a few hours of installing this cable through the house. Honestly this installation was easier overall than troubleshooting wireless systems for the last few months! If you need a network across a several rooms, save yourself the headache and just run a cable. 5Boot is too thick, hard to unplugThese cables work. I have been able to pull 180+ Mbps through them, and likely more if my internet was faster than that. For that they get 5 start. Now when it comes to the connectors, they lose 3 stars. The boot which protects the connector is far too thick, which greatly inhibits your ability to unplug them. It literally hurts to try to squish the boot enough to release the connector. Even then, I still have to jamb a fork or screw driver down in front of the boot to get to the actual plastic tab. If you read the other reviews you'll find people complaining that these get stuck. They're referring to this issue, where no matter how hard you try, you cannot depress the boot enough to unlatch the connector. 2Often only connects at 100 mbpsTook a while to figure this out, but after using this cable to connect our modem to router, we often (but not always) getting slower internet speeds. We pay for 1 gbps fiber.Turns out this cable was the culprit. It was, more often than not, causing our router to connect to our modem at 100 mbps instead of 1 gbps. I plugged in a less-sightly and longer spare blue ethernet cable and am no longer having the issue. 1Failed after a few weeks of useEDIT: Contacted Monoprice directly and they sent me a replacement. Wish I could have done this thru Amazon, but 5 stars for Monoprice.-------------Usually I have great results with Monoprice cables, I've had several over the years and never had one fail. This one did, unfortunately a few weeks after installing it in a very secure, permanent way 15 ft off the ground. So I'll need to get a new 75-ft cable and reroute it in the same location. I applied for return or replacement with Amazon, but since its outside the 30 day return window I'm not sure they'll honor it. Hopefully they will as the product page states this has a lifetime warranty. Maybe next time I'll try the cheaper cables that are everywhere these days. 5Cable works well but headline is misleading.I wonder if this is truly a Monoprice advertised ethernet cable. It could be false advertisement provided by one of their distributors. The headline states the ethernet cable is 550mhz. But I received one that says it was Monoprice 250mhz..Cat 6 cable speeds are known to cap at 250mhz. Why does this headline advertise for 550mhz?Nevertheless the cable does work as expected. I just hope this is a real Monoprice cable that lasts long. 3Monoprice makes good stuff at reasonable pricesI've never bought a cable from Monoprice I was unhappy with, and I've bought quite a few cables from them over the years. I recommend Cat6 for home use, since Cat6a would be of benefit only for very long cables not needed in most homes. All my cables are 50 feet or less. Cat6a is recommended for lengths longer than around 100-150 feet. Cat5a should be fine too, but Cat6 is a bit sturdier and will handle higher speeds, should that ever be needed in the future. I prefer more sturdy cabling whenever I have to pull it through the attic or around corners.I've had old Cat5 cables weaken and break over time because they are rather flimsy. Better to pay a bit more since the price difference for home use is only a few dollars for short cables (50' or less).I also like that ethernet cables from Monoprice come in a variety of colors. That makes it easier when connecting several devices to know in the future which one goes where. The rooms in my home that have AV equipment typically need three or four connections, so I just buy an inexpensive switch for each room. (They're around $10 now.) The wires from each switch can be different colors. One for the TV, others for the DVD player, TiVo, AppleTV or whatever. 5You can go cheaper, but you can't get better for the price and quality.I had order one length of cable to see how well it worked. Well worked or provided satisfactory signal from point a to point b as best a cable can be expected. Having not had a problem and the price is very reasonable considering what 50 feet of cable goes for a the local electronic outlets as well as the big box stores you can't ask for much more. So I ordered 2 additional 50 feet bundles and received them today. I plan to run one for streaming Netflix in to different rooms in the house. Barring any problems over the next few months I will upgrade my rating to FIVE stars. I still need at least two more lengths so as I said barring any failures I plan to order additional runs in the future. Now the quality of the cable seems to be well made and I am currently getting good connections from NetGear 8 port switch that is connected to a cable modem thus far. So if you are looking for a high quality run of cable at a very reasonable price you have a decision to make. Just remember you can go cheaper, but you can't go better for the price. 4
