Customer Reviews

Mounting system is awfulI cannot give this Brantford line a low enough rating. The looks are fine but the mounting system is horrible. It has been 1 year since we purchased and installed this towel rod, a couple hand towel hangers and a toilet paper roll holder. All of them have slowly but surely become unsecured from the wall from daily use and simply hang out of the wall like a limp noodle. Literally just pulled the remaining fasteners out of the wall this morning and now I'll have to do plenty of extra drywall patching and painting before trying to replace with something else. I don't review many products, but I am frustrated enough with these to express myself. We're fairly handy people and have done numerous hardware installations like this over the years. Not once have we had a problem like this. They tried to build a better mouse trap and failed. I see there are numerous positive reviews of these but I would be interested to know how many of them were written after several months of use.1easy to install impossible to removeI honestly hope that the Moen quality I'm used to is still there because whomever came up with the new installation system should be fired. Incredibly easy to install, it takes less than 5 min. A nightmare to remove it. It took me almost an hour to remove one of the holders, because let's be honest, how can you push a microscopic hard plastic clip that does not bend, trough a small hole while pulling to unclip it is beyond me. Whatever you are using to push the clip gets in the way. The only reason I managed is because I damaged the clip enough that it gave up. I was honestly beginning to plan to cut the dry wall to get it out. I would buy it again because I love Moen and never had problems with their products. I would however change my current "yes it looks nice there" modus operandi for the installation, with weeks worth of careful planning and mock installation to make sure it will be installed only once and stay there for the rest of the house lifetime.4Nice, clean fixtures We bought this, along with other Brantford Moen bathroom fixtures for our bathroom remodel. So far, I'm very happy with all the items and they are maintaining their shine. 5DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT BUY!!!!Believe the other reviews: the mounting system is one of the most pathetic pieces of engineering I have encountered. I have installed many bars and similar accessories and never had a problem. Virtually all use the same system: a mounting bracket is screwed to the wall, then a small set screw secures the post to the bracket. It s a simple design that works and has stood the test of time.Moen has reinvented the wheel and made it square. Instead of a metal bracket and set screw, they provide a plastic bracket with a small plastic tab at the bottom. You have to press the post onto the bracket until the little plastic tab engages a small hole at the bottom of the post. Sound simple? Sure - unless things don t line up 100%, or maybe your wall bows out a bit as mine does. Then you find the plastic tab will never find the little hole.Avoid all Moen accessories using this idiotic mounting system.1Good towel bar, poor end connectorsI would of given this towel bar a higher rating if Moen would of used the older type of wall connector instead of the type included in the package. If you follow the installation instructions used for normal 1/2 inch thick drywall, when you are not connecting to a stud, the bar will not attach firmly to the wall. You need to turn the molly screw 12 to 20 full turns instead of the 6 to 8 turns they recommend. I found this out the hard way, which then was difficult to remove the end connector to get at the molly screw to tighten the turns needed for a firm attachment to the wall. If I order this item again I would use a different way to attach the connector to the drywall or buy a Moen towel bar which use the older type of wall connector that you tighten a set screw underneath the towel bar end connector that secures the towel bar firmly to the wall.3Awful Mounting systemWhile the towel bar itself is decent the mounting system is absolutely horrible and I would not purchase again. I ignored other reviews critical of the mounting system because I wanted to match an existing towel bar in our bathroom. Big mistake. I bought 3 towel bars and one arrived short of install hardware. I mounted two in a hollow door and one in sheetrock. It was only thanks to guidance and parts from my local hardware store that I eventually got everything securely mounted and forget about ever removing for future painting. I would stay away from Moen for towel bars. There are several other vendors on Amazon with far better traditional allen key type mounting systems. I have since purchased some for another bathroom with no mounting issues.2Very nice. Had to make a slight modification to avoid the bar from spinning. It looks nice. I haven't had to remove it so I haven't had the experience unclipping it that some other reviewers have had. To ensure it doesn't spin and let towels fall, like other viewers have mentioned, I used a hack saw and easily made to cross cuts in one end of the bar -- in the shape of a + sign. That allowed the bar to slip over the matching + protrusions inside of the receiver. So my bar does not rotate. As for the anchor that some reviewers had problems with, I had no problem at all. It is an excellent anchor, the double, spring loaded wing type that pop open behind the wall board. Perhaps this is an upgrade over previous models. Otherwise I can't understand how folks had it pull out of the wall unless they were chinning themselves from the bar.4Look nice but some negative featuresI purchased several of these towel bars to match the Moen Brantford style faucets we had recently installed. They look nice and certainly match the faucets, however there are two features that I dislike about them. The first is that the installation requires you to lock the end pieces over a plastic anchor piece screwed into the wall, but of the 7 individuals end pieces I installed only one ended up locking into place correctly. The remaining six were pushed on with brute force and hopefully will hold. This type of design is unnecessarily complicated in my opinion. The second issue is that the center rod is a standalone piece which means it is not locked into place but instead can rotate freely once inserted into the two end pieces. This means when you pull a towel off the towel bar the rod rotates which in turn makes other towels slide off (it also makes a clanking sound). I ended up filling the end pieces with clear grout before inserting the center rod so that the rod would be fixed in place once the grout dried. This worked very well, but makes me question the poor design in the first place.3Towel Rod Diameter Looks SmallThe towel bar is only 5/8-inch in diameter which makes it look skimpy.Unless you cut slots in the ends of the towel bar, it will easily turn on its end brackets helping your towel to fall off. (See the review that describes how to fix this. I did it with a Dremel.) Other than trying to save a few pennies during production of this product, there is no excuse for this.Towel mounting brackets used to allow easy towel bar attachment/removal to/from the wall. The mounting brackets for the Brantford series fixtures I suppose have been "improved" so are worse to deal with than the old style metal plates that used a set screw. These mounting plates consist of a plastic base with a stiff plastic tab that catches a slot in the end brackets when you push them on. It will be difficult to get the towel bar off and will probably ruin the tabs if you try. Also, there is no horizontal adjustment capability. Also, if you are going to hit a stud in the wall in your installation, there are no screws for that. It comes with hollow wall anchors only. There is no mounting template but it wouldn't be of much help anyway if you decide to modify the towel rod ends to prevent it from turning.2Easy to install. Easy to remove. This is a very well made towel rack with an innovative mounting system. The mounting bracket requires only one screw to hold it in place. There are two push-in tabs that prevent rotation of the bracket. The rod holder then clips onto the bracket. To remove, you simply push in the tab while pulling the holder straight out. The trick to easy removal is to pull straight out. If you try to rotate upward it will never come off as it was designed to prevent movement in that direction. My only suggestion is that you may want to use a stronger wall board anchor than the one supplied if you suspect it will be subject to hard use.5They won't stay up!I bought several Moen Brantford Bath accessories for our remodel. We recently remodeled our master bath and choose Meon due to our positive history with their products. They have always been of good design and quality. Unfortunately their new system for attaching the mounting brackets/ hardware to the wall is flawed. They keep on falling off the wall with the slightest amount of pressure. I haven't installed all as I don't want to do any more damage to my walls or accessories. I wish they would had left their old mounting brackets alone. I really didn't mind the awkwardness of trying to tighten that little screw on the underside because they stayed in place but I guess this is cheaper for them to make this way. Disappointed in Moen.1
