Better than the RF connector!Make sure you have a model 1 Sega Genesis before purchasing this cable. This cable will connect your Sega Genesis (model 1) to your TV through the AV connectors. The video quality with this composite cable vs the coaxial RF connector makes a huge difference. The colors with this cable are more vibrant, text is a bit sharper, and the colors and outlines of sprites aren't "smeared" looking as they are with the RF connector. The single audio connection on this cable is still better than the muffled sound coming from the single coaxial cable as well, however it's a mono sound signal. (It will still output through two speakers, though). However, considering you have the Genesis model 1, I would recommend using the Belkin Audio Y Cable Splitter 1-Mini Plug/2-RCA Plugs (6ft) to get even better audio quality out of the front 3.5mm audio jack. With that, you will get true stereo sound from your Sega Genesis. So the use of this cable for me is to get the better video quality, while using the 3.5mm male to two RCA male jacks for audio.5Dead on arrivalMine was shipped by seller 'lovely mood'. It doesn't work. I went to return it, and it isn't eligible for return. Since it doesn't work, I do not suggest you purchase this cable.1Fit great on Sega Genesis Model 1 Works great for my OG Genesis Model 1. There are different cables for the different models so be sure the buy the right one. If you have the first gen model this is the one for you. Feels good quality and worked great thus far, no complaints. 5Item Not As DescribedBefore I purchased this cable, I looked at the item description as well as the "Q&A" section. They described it as fitting the 1st model Genesis, and the price was great. The overall review average was ok, so I ordered. Now I see that I should have read the 1-star reviews. Apparently, some of us were unlucky enough to receive the "model 2" cable. This wasn't an issue of me ordering the wrong size... all it offered when I ordered was the model 1.Luckily, Amazon support was very quick to refund my money. But still, buyer beware. It appears the supplier has a lot of model 2's to dump off, and doesn't care what you ordered.1Great! Just make sure you have a Genesis 1 and NOT 2 or 3!I bought one of these and it worked perfectly. However, you need to be sure that you have a Genesis model 1 or this will NOT work, because later models had a smaller connecter. If your Genesis has a headphone jack, volume control and power switch, then it's a model 1 and these A/V cables are what you want. If your Genesis lacks a headphone jack and volume control, but has a power "button", then it's a Genesis model 2. A model 3 is easy to tell because it's tiny and says "Genesis 3" right on it.Hope that answers some questions for anyone who might have wanted to know, or wasn't sure about buying this!5Great cord for 1st Generation Sega Genesis Console. For those who remember what a Sega Genesis 1 (or 1st Generation) is, it was the larger one with the Red or white mark on the dome by the power LED. If you don't have this, you have the one that is all black, with a button in the center and the controller connections on top. this is the Sega Genesis (2nd Generation), and is smaller. If you are still not sure, but have the CD dock, you had to add an extra piece for the Sega Genesis (1st Generation).Since I haven't found my RF adapter, I had to look into a cable. Was going to make it myself, but realize I can't find the parts anymore (not only in my collection, but in stores). For the price, this was great.Have to admit, didn't realize Audio came out this jack as well.. thought it was composite, RGB and ground only..Video quality was fantastic (and quite amazed it still works after all these years). Very highly recommended. BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT BOX.2nd and 3rd generations have a much smaller connector (just as round as a sharpie). this one is the old 5-pin keyboard (or MIDI DIN Style) and is double the size at least.Recommend also getting an 1/8th inch to stereo RCA jacks so you can get the stereo audio these games need.5Does the trick!Works perfectly with the Altered Beast (first) version of the Sega Genesis. Brilliant sound and picture quality. Way better than using Coax! A note though: Make sure your TV is compatible of showing 240i resolution. Some of the newer models won't support it, and you'll need an RCA to HDMI upconverter.5yes. I got all misty eyed and nostalgic and decided to dig my Genesis out of my garage and play a few hours of Phantasy Star 2 and Sonic. To my dismay, the standard RF plug that came with my 1st gen Genesis looked terrible. I had it hooked up to a 6 series Samsung LED 65 inch 1080p 240hz television and it looked so bad. I couldn't wrap my head around it. I knew from reading a few reviews that the old Genesis' were engineered to look good on CRT TV's but I didn't think it would be that bad.I bought these cables to try and bypass that problem and it looks awesome now. 100% better than the RF plug and i'm very happy. Now I can listen to Fine Young Cannibals and C+C Music Factory with my mullet and teleport back in time. 5About as good as it gets, for a Model 1 GenesisThis is an A/V cable for Model 1 Genesis (and I believe Sega Master System as well). The cables and connectors aren't the best quality in the world, but it is good for the money and it gets the job done. There are only two composite cables, one for video, and one for audio. This is normal for Model 1 Genesis, as the rear A/V port only produces mono sound. However, if you have it connected to the correct audio channel (usually the Left aka WHITE connector!) on the TV it should output sound on both sides, even though it will still only be mono sound (NOT true stereo). This might vary by TV, some might not handle this properly.Because of the mono-only sound from the rear A/V port on the Model 1, you won't find a stereo A/V cable for this unit. The only way to get TRUE stereo sound out of a Model 1 Genesis is to use the headphone jack on the front of the unit, and a 3.5mm to dual red/white composite adapter cable. At that point, you'd only be using this cable for the video, which is fine, because the video quality of this composite cable is significantly better in most cases than an RF adapter. Overall this is a good cable, not quite as nice as authentic Sega composite A/V cables, but it's good enough.Edit: Some of these types of cables come with a Red audio connector instead of White. Just ignore the color and hook up the audio to the White connector, and it should output mono sound out of both speakers.4Works for Sega Master System too!I just received this today and couldn't be happier! I was given an old Sega Master System for Christmas to add to my collection and it had no AV or RF cable. I wasn't sure this would work so I read the reviews until I found one that said it was the same as the (model 1) Genesis. I also saw some reviews that mention mispackaging issues and they had received a model 2 genesis cable. I just happen to have a model 2 Genesis using the RF so I figured I couldn't lose as it had to work with one my consoles. Lo and behold it is correct cable for the Master System (not sure why it's not advertised as such) and the machine works perfectly! A great addition to my collection for less than $5, thank you!5Gets the Job Done For My New HD TVI recently upgraded my '93 Toshiba to a new Sanyo 42" LCD HD TV, and there was no way the original cable for my Sega Genesis would work on it so I got this cable. There is some noticeable blockiness and choppy pixels, but it isn't going to be perfect when it wasn't designed to run on a 1080i TV. The sound is great, and there is no lag in the controls. However, with one of the two games I tested, after about 20 minutes of gameplay I noticed a buzzing noise that slowly began to develop and increase in volume, overpowering the game audio to the point I eventually turned it off. I do not know if this is a problem with my TV or the Sega Genesis, this is the first game I've played on it that does this and I have used a vast array of old and new systems on it (NES, N64, Nintendo Gamecube, Xbox and Xbox 360). Aside from that, this cable works great for old game systems. As I said before, the picture quality isn't the best, but it'll look good enough.4What isn't wrong with these cables?First off you got my order wrong, twice. Second I never tested the wrong ones you sent me because I had no use for them until recently when I came across something that needed tested and guess what I tried to hook them up normally and the plastic around the plug is too thick and it wouldn't even plug into the console. After I sorted that out I plugged the yellow and white connector into the TV like normal and I get a no signal prompt on screen. For some reason I thought to reverse the leads going into the TV and now I get a signal, with the white plug plugged into the video and the yellow plug plugged into the audio inputs in the TV, which is completely backwards. I am embarrassed to have to package these with a console.1This is not like the one pictured!!! I waited, thinking that Amazon would get this issue ironed out. Then they made them available to order again. I pulled the trigger and bought one. It IS NOT the right cable. This one has 3 pins and is way too small for the Sega 1 console. The correct cable has 7 pins around and one in the center with a guide along to top for alignment. Hopefully we can get this issue corrected soon.If anyone ever finds the right adapter cable please post information here. I'd really like to improve the video quality for this system. The kids love to play it still, too. I'm tempted to just make own following the youtube videos that show you how. 1
