Customer Reviews

Maxell has good soundReally good quality tapesThey stand out years after useIf you like regular use these are good for itType II chrome is better for more accurate soundAnd of course if you want the richest sound get Metal type5Love these tapesI've been using them for years, and have found them to be the best in the market place. I've probably only found one defective one in a hundred tapes, which is pretty good. I would recommend these tapes, since I feel they haven't gone down in quality like all the other brands have in the past 10 years. I hope the company continues to make them. Every other brand I tried was worthless.5Mixed Results, Sorry To SayThis review is for Maxell UR-90 Cassette tapes, of which I have purchased more than one multipack. Yes, the sound is quite good typically, but there have been frequent occasions where, early into playback, the sound is muffled and uneven. Diagnosis is a bit tricky, but I do consider the tapes, and not the tapedeck, as the culprit. Here's why. I have a fairly new tape deck (a nice dual cassette Teac) which plays cassettes (a dozen or so) I recorded on my previous deck (also was a Teac) thirty years ago (normal bias Maxell and TDK tapes) FLAWLESSLY every time, and they sound as dynamic as when first recorded. No glitches, ever! The new tapes reviewed here, TAPED ON MY NEW DECK (so one would think there'd be enhanced compatibility, come playback), regularly play poorly during the first few minutes of playback (that muffled, flutter/wow sound). A real letdown. I'm convinced that this cassette format, which I love, but is not "state of the art" these days, suffers quality-wise on these reviewed Maxell tapes, compared to their ancestors Maxell used to make. ( Could be the tape, the mechanism, or both). Sorry to say. I'm grateful that Maxell still produces cassettes, but it's too bad the current product can't match the unflinching reliability of their decades-old ancestor cassettes. They don't make 'em like they used to.3Great cassettes for a great value!Great value for these cassette tapes! I brought them for my husband who likes using them for recording class sessions as it is easier for him to use & he really likes how much use he gets out of them. Even though technology has surpassed these, he prefers using them & his tape recorder. Like he says, sometimes there are things of old that just can't be beat & are always better than many modern day tech stuff! I highly recommend them as they work really well & are a great amount for their price!5Blank tapeEvery now and then I need a new blank cassette tape. I probably could just erase one that I've recorded something to, but don't need any more - but that would involve actually determining if I wanted to keep a recording or not. So it's just easier to grab a new tape. Recently doing that made me realize that I was down to my last one. So it was time to purchase some more. Believe it or not, the local big-box stores around here don't have them anymore (or if they do, then I and a couple clerks couldn't find them). Thankfully Amazon still has them. I ordered two packages to restock my stash. I'm guessing that will be enough to hold me for another five or six years. Kind of odd to think these might be the last cassette tapes I'll ever buy (given they might not be available in 2020).I like these Maxell UR-90 tapes. You can recorded 45 minutes per side. I've been using this brand & type of cassette tapes for years and so far have never been disappointed with one. I like that the case is completely clear so as to able to see and read the label on the cassette. I'm not recording anything that needs studio quality tape, so these 'every day' quality ones work for me.5DEFECTIVE BATCH OF TAPES JAM WHEN THE FEED TAPE JUMPS THE ROLLER ON THE LEFT SIDE AND SNAGS. HORRIBLE.So far 4 of the 6 reels of tape have failed - tape jumps over the roller on the feed side and snags - I wanted to contact the seller and/or Amazon but the return "window" closed, so apparently while it took a few weeks for these tapes to begin failing, I am without recourse except to urge people NOT to buy these defective audio cassette tapes. I've had tapes last a decade - a couple of months is just not acceptable.1They seem to be working well.So far, they seem very good. I didn't rate the sound, because I haven't played them back yet, but they seem to function well in the tape recorder (I have been recording from an old-fashioned stereo onto cassette tapes). I don't always have access to the equipment, so that's why I have limited information, but everything seems to be in order.5The price is a great deal. If you want the finest qualityThe price is a great deal. If you want the finest quality, well, you get what you pay for. The hiss sound is expected, but heavy to moderate bass gets recorded throughout, to where I get that ghost sound of backward play on the opposite side. Thought perhaps that the subwoofer and bass setting while listening & recording may have contributed to vibration. Nope, because I recorded with subwoofer turned off and bass setting set to zero. Still hear it. I only notice it, quite so though, during pauses between songs. Fair quality, but when measured beside a chromium oxide, or other metal high bias cassette, it makes perfect sense why the price is so low.3Yes, They Still Make CassettesMy teenage, music loving son has been wanting to record on cassettes. I was so happy to find these online...the same ones I always use to buy for mix tapes. The sound was great, very easy to use, and he had no problems with any of them. I m sure I will be reordering for more.5Making some mix tapes in 2013A friend mentioned something about mix tapes the other day and I asked if they even still sold cassette tapes. A quick search here and of course they still do. So I immediately ordered some. I believe this is the same packaging as the last time (sometime in the 90s) I bought blank tapes. It's time for the cassette to make a comeback!5Bought this for my brother Bought this for my brother who records off the radio and then plays while reading in bed. Second set purchased and he said they are perfect. Hard to find anywhere else. 5
