Customer Reviews

Support Just what I needed, works awesome. Thanks 5Fit the billJust want I needed to provide protection for our computers and TV.5Good productWorks great. Using it on my Breville toaster oven that draws 1350 watts. I like it because it has the breaker lit up and lights indicating the surge protection is on and working. I bought this to replace a Belkin surge strip that only lasted two weeks and tripped every time I used the toaster oven.5Name Brand I bought because Leviton is a respected name in the industry. 4greatLove this power bar, it is exactly what I was looking for.5Got for my computerI got this for a computer that I wanted to protect from a possible power surge. So far, so good. I have had it for 5 months.55 starsOk5Leviton S1000-PS: Reliable basic protection when you need it... There are power strips and then there are surge suppressors. Power strips may be fine for plugging in a small lamp or some simple electrical devices, but if you have a computer or other high-end electronics that cost hundreds or thousands of dollars, you may want to think twice about plugging them into an under ten-dollar power strip and hope that they'll be protected. That's where devices such as this Leviton S1000-PS Office Grade Surge Strip fit in. Not only does it offer the convenience of six outlets, it was designed for both general home and office use.Pros:* Six-foot input cord with right angle 3-prong plug; hugs the wall; has a thumb grip* Has six right-angle outlets as opposed to the regular inline outlets* Audible alarm & indicator lights; illuminated resettable circuit breaker switch* Very neutral ivory-beige ABS housing; businesslike* Comes with Velcro straps to organize the power cord* Wall mounting template included inside the box* UL1449 3rd Edition rated (see below)Cons:* None so farIf you've used standard power strips or surge strips with regular inline power plugs then you know what a hassle it can be when you try to plug in a few cell phone or Bluetooth headset chargers. Some of these are so close together that you can only plug two or three into the six power sockets. But look at the design of this surge strip and you can see that plugs and chargers go in side-by-side instead of almost on top of each other. If you need more than six outlets, there's the Leviton S2000-PTC 120 Volt/15 Amp, Office Grade Surge Strip, a similar unit which has the six parallel outlets plus three widely-spaced ones for chargers and such.Simple suggestion: when you take it out of the box, take the plug and insert it into each of the outlets one or two times. This will "prime" each outlet so that you're not under a desk or workspace trying to insert a plug for the first time, an exercise that can be frustrating at best.I became curious about this Leviton S1000-PS Office Grade Surge Strip and how well it might protect, so I went to the manufacturer's site and looked it up. Here's what I found:* Amperage: 15 Amp; Voltage: 120 Volt; Frequency: 50/60Hz* Surge Technology: MOV* Enclosure Material: ABS Molded Plastic* Joules Rating: 1010; MCOV: 150V; Maximum Surge Current Rating: 25kA* Voltage Protection Rating (VPR) L-N, L-G, N-G: 600V, 700V, 700V* Noise Filtering: -8dB to -25dB (@100K-100MHz)* UL1449 3rd Edition: cULus Listed; NOM: 057* ANSI/IEEE Category A, B & C: C-62.41 & 62.45* Product Warranty: Limited Lifetime; Connected Equipment Warranty: LifetimeLet me add a disclaimer here: I'm no electrician of electrical engineer, but I went looking on the 'Net for advice on these things. All sources note that these should be plugged into a grounded outlet, and one noted that users should never cut the rounded prong off of the 3-prong plug. Condensing the info that I found, many sources said to not get caught up in the energy dissipation numbers, usually expressed in Joules, or the response time that some surge protectors flaunt. These may not be a totally reliable indication of quality. Most agreed that a decent surge protector should be UL 1449 rated, which means that it meets or exceeds the Underwriter Laboratory's tested standard. This Leviton S1000-PS matches those criteria. Most sources agree that surge protectors are a necessity necessary for protection of sensitive computer gear and expensive electronic gear from surges or spikes in the power supply. And though most of us think that outside surges and spikes are the prime offenders, we may need to look elsewhere. The main culprits seem to be appliance motors cycling on and off, like your refrigerator, your washer and dryer, and your air conditioner. And here's one strong suggestion: never, ever, plug a vacuum cleaner into the same surge strip that's connected to your computer or other expensive electronic gear. That can bring them down, according to some. And remember that surge-protected power strips won't protect your computer data during blackouts or brownouts. You need a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) for that. A UPS includes a battery for maintaining power, allowing you to save your data before your PC or Mac shuts down.Summary:Pardon the overly long length of this review, but manufacturers' specs on these things don't offer enough information for us to make intelligent decisions based on our own needs. I like this surge strip, but find it strange that there's more information on the box than within the product descriptions here, and Leviton isn't the only one guilty of this irritating practice. That being said, I found this Leviton S1000-PS Office Grade Surge Strip to be better than expected. It's well-engineered, and the six parallel power plugs worked far better than the inline plugs found in so many other products. The six-foot power cord appears to be very thick, but it's surprisingly flexible, and the cord's grounded plug hugs the wall with its 90 right angle design. There's also a convenient thumb grip on the plug, making it easy to remove from a wall socket when using it in mobile situations. The mounting template inside the box is a nice touch, but the two included Velcro strips, which can be slipped into slots in the units ABS housing were perfect for semi-permanent mounting under the workspace. For the right situations, this is an excellent solution, and worthy of a solid 5-star recommendation.5/23/2012 5So far so goodNot that its been struck by lightning or anything but I would say this item is working well and as intended. If anything melts or explodes I will update...LOL.Thanks for a great product at a great price!5Some Nice Extras This comes with the minimum you would expect for a surge protector: 6 foot cord and a neutral beige color. The specifics of its protection are surge protection up to 1010 joules and clamping voltage specs of L-N 660 volts, L-G 700 volts, and N-G 700 volts. There are two indicator lights for showing proper grounding and surge protection and power on.(Your surge protector will do little good without being grounded so be aware of that when using in older buildings)The nice extras are two velcro straps to tie cords down with, an audible alarm when protection is lost, rubber anti-skid and anti-scratch pads on the bottom of the protector, a template included on the box for screw mounting the device on the wall, and a "space saving plug" that's handy for connecting with outlets that have furniture close in front of them. Also an added benefit is EMI/RFI noise reduction. This "cleans" your power since modern microcircuits can "age" because of minute voltage fluctuations in the line). For those in smaller houses and apartments, it should be noted that there is a warning to install this device only when there is at least 30 meters between the outlet where it's plugged in and an electrical service panel.Of course, there's no way to know how effective this thing is until the fatal surge happens. However, it does come with a limited lifetime warranty for it and devices plugged into it. That warranty, however, doesn't cover damage from lightning strikes in "close proximity" to the premises. 4Works as expected, good product, only available in off-white?It works, good product, have been using 1 for over a year bought two others for different locations. Only con, it only comes in off-white.4PerfectJust what we needed for the dorm room. would recommend to anyone that needs to plug in multiple items for school.5Surge surpressorIt's perfect for my space just the right length and just what I ordered.5Five StarsVery nice.5
