Customer Reviews

Does what its supposed to Worked out great 5Perfect for LED lighting applications with wall switch/Dimmer on 120V side. Worked perfectly for an LED undercabinet lighting system I installed. You would use this is your want to dim with a typical 120 Volt wall switch. If you don't use a more expensive Magnetic transformer like this, you cannot use 120V dimming (you would have to use a low voltage dimmer on the low voltage side.Wanted my kitchen under cab lighting to be dimmed from a Decora wall switch instead of a hokey low voltage dial.Works great - no buzz. Wish the dim range was greater but pretty good. May be able to adjust dim range but I haven't bothered.Final Note: If you are going to put in LED lighting, MAKE SURE you know what you will end up with. The LED tape light I bought online ended up being a cool white LED look eventhough reviews and MFR specs said 2700K temp..you just cant go by reviews. LED is never going to look at warm as halogen so be ready for that. 5Works perfectly and quietly. Works perfectly and quietly. I have not heard any humming and installation was a breeze. I highly recommend it -- even for in kitchen undercabinet lighting. 5Perfect We installed LED lights under the kitchen cabinets but found them to be a little to brighht. This transformer solved the problem perfectly. The ability to adjust the lighting makes for nice work lighting as well as nice ambience lighting. 5Used with a strip of LED lighting. However, ... Used with a strip of LED lighting. However, strip flickers, and I can't see why it should unless it has something to do with this transformer. 3Good product No complaints. I bought two and they both do what they are supposed to do. They provide clean, consistent and reliable 12v output. I expect these to last as long as my other ones and certainly much longer than any electronic transformer. 5works well a little spendy. Good choice when paired with a lutron dvlv-600p dimmer and led tape lights. Construction seems good. So far it works well. Slightly warm when operating. My only complaint would be that to me this is overpriced. I would like to see it sell for around 30% less. 4Works great with Insteon dimmers, a few minor issues. My setup: [120VAC from house]--> Insteon Dimmer --> LED DC Magnetic Transformer --> 12VDC LED Undercabinet Strip Lights [35 Watts max]Perfect solution electrically, but a few minor issues:1) Be aware, that if you don't use a dimmer the manufacture says to reduce the LED load to 50% of rated value. In this case that would be 20-watts. Not a problem for me...and most of you, otherwise why spend $70? (Buy one for $15 if you don't need dimming.)2) You will need the following hardware: A pair of wire clamp connectors to put in the 1/2" knockout holes so you don't cut the insulation on your wires. This makes it legal and tidy. Also you'll need five smaller wire nuts and two mounting screws.3) It's a bit over-priced...even though it's high quality and sturdy. I think that $50 would be fair for the 40-watt device...but at this time in history they kinda have you over a barrel.4) Cover plate screw is tiny and faces in an awkward direction (at least in my installation). I had to wire up the transformer device, close the lid, put the screw back in, and THEN secure the transformer in my enclosure.Specifically, I used Insteon in-linelinc dimmers with these LED magnetic transformers. I've used several of the Insteon dimmers now for various inductive loads although I try to keep it under 150-Watts per dimmer. Insteon dimmers are rated at 300-Watts for purely resistive loads and with LED lights, 150-watts is a ton of LEDs. As I stated, for this application my load was 35-watts max. Perfect. I will be upgrading my in-linelinc Insteon Dimmers with DIN-rail mounted Insteon Dimmers in the next week...just to tidy up my installation box; I have other DIN rail devices in the same box. I'll report back at that time but expect no issues there.I do not recommend using Lutron typical dimmers at all for this... if you're on Lutron, pony up for the $80 magnetic-load Lutron dimmer.Transformer noise was reported by other reviewers and would be normal for a transformer, but I haven't noticed any noise at all. Because of the minor issues and high price I'm knocking off a star. I'm an electrical engineer with over 25 years of design experience. Whoever designed this did a nice job. 4dead within two weeks Bought this last year in MayConnected it two weeks ago and worked nicely, flicker free ....great.Two weeks into it the lights went out .... I had one led strip in it 24w.The thing was super hot and smelled burned..... the lights did survive.I have half a strip running on an old router transformer 12v 1.2a..........may be it is time recycle some old transformers.... they seem to last. 1Excellent to use with strip LEDs where you want to dim them from a standard wall plate I have installed two of these magnetic transformers and they work great. They allow you to use a magnetic dimmer in a standard wall plate that is wired in ahead of this transformer. I had a four-gang wall plate with two standard DIVA style incandescent dimmers and I wanted to be able to dim my strip LEDs without using the cheesy knob dimmer that has to be installed after the transformer. I used Lutron DVLV-600P low-voltage magnetic dimmers that cost under $40.00 each at a local electrical supply and that matched my standard incandescent dimmers. The magnetic low-voltage dimmers work perfectly with these transformers. Wire the dimmers in like any other dimmer and then connect this magnetic transformer. You will have to add pigtails to the transformer unless you hard wire it in. The instructions that come with the transformer clearly explain the wiring process. No noticeable noise when in operation and with this combo you can dim the LEDs from full brightness all the way down to darkness. Two thumbs up. 5
