Customer Reviews

Did not last more than 2 months I bought these to replace brand new slides put in by my kitchen contractor. The drawers all work fine except the garbage drawer, which wasn't aligned right and the cheap slide didn't work right. So, I bought this KV slide to replace it, and properly shimmed everything so it is lined up perfectly. This KV slide worked great for about 2 months. Now, when closing the drawer, it stops where the soft close portion starts. It won't suck the drawer the rest of the way it unless I give it a nudge, then the soft close feature pulls the drawer the rest of the way.I've tried blowing it out with compressed air, lubricating it, etc. I may just have to replace with a non-soft-close slide, but this KV slide should have been able to handle this task. 2Best in business Best in business, but a HUGE pain to install in already manufactured cabinets. If you re thinking you can DIY convert your cabinets to soft close, make sure you understand that it will take HOURS and possibly days to get close to what you expect and even then probably not what you want. That s not the fault of these slides though, about 75% of my installs went great and work great and like a YouTube video you watched that made you say that s what I want. The other 25% are a bit sticky, maybe not perfect and sometimes lose their catch. So, just know what you re getting into with these. They CAN work great, but it s not just a screw and level and you re done in 10 minutes. 4Good, but finicky These are good slides. Really more like 4.5 stars. The thing to be aware of is that they are very unforgiving of misalignment. I used these to replace other, non-soft close slides in my closet. I made the casing that holds the drawer, and it's not up to the standards of IKEA flat-pack that's made by CNC in a factory or anything. Still, I had no problem with the old slides. Turns out, the back of the opening was about 1/16" narrower than the front. Hardly worked until I got that sorted out.I don't find these slides to be lightweight or flimsy, as some other reviewers have written. I think they're a good weight and seem to work fine. One thing to keep in mind is that the soft close mechanism takes up a good bit of space near the back of the slides, so the screws are further forward (say, compared to my old slides). As a result, the very back of the slide would try to float a little. There is another mounting hole in the extreme rear corner, amidst the soft close mechanism. You should really try to make sure to get a screw into it. 4Very smooth We are completing a semi-remodel of our kitchen, and I wanted to add some high-end touches. Drawer slides and soft-close doors were high on the list. The first two drawer slide sets that I purchased were made by Liberty. I installed them, and was not happy with how "heavy" they felt. I believe it has to do with the size/type of the bearings. The drawer did not function as smoothly as I had hoped. We opted to try one different brand (Knape & Vogt in this case) to see if the brand made a difference in how easy the drawers open and close, and I have to say we are very pleased. It takes much less effort to operate the drawers on the KV slides than the Liberty slides. The closing mechanism is very smooth. We ordered more KV slides to finish out the drawers in our kitchen. One note on installation - our cabinets were not perfectly square, so it made it very hard to line up the slides perfectly. My first drawer took over 2 hours while I measured, leveled, drilled, etc, and the drawer still didn't fit in smoothly. I finally figured out that I could install the pieces on the drawer (on either side, about 1/4" up from the bottom), and the install the front screw into the other piece that attaches to inside face of the cabinet. This allows the piece attached to the cabinet to pivot when you insert the drawer.I then inserted the drawer into the opening, holding it up from underneath with a small piece of wood. I then leveled it out from underneath with a small level, ensuring that the face close flush, and drove the screws into the rear brackets that way. We have face frame cabinets, by the way. Install time using this method - 10 minutes per drawer, and there was no binding or anything. 5Nice upgrade. No room for error though ... As you'll see, I installed these in a cabinet for holding pots and pans, replacing cheap European style glides. I'm sure it's easier to use these in new installations, where you can use jigs and be sure everything is square. It took me a bit to get it right because my cabinet was slightly out of square. There are a number of good woodworking forums that provided me with tips for proper alignment. If you're like me - not very experienced in this work, I highly recommend reading up a bit. 4Nice piece of hardware made in USA I bought this pair to replace a traditional drawer slide. My kitchen cabinets have the traditional American setup with a frame, not European style. For the American setup, I strongly recommend using the 8404 front mounting brackets, which you need to order separately. You also need to order the 8402 rear mounting brackets. The included manual is not that helpful. Read it anyway because there is an important hint about the trigger switch you should push prior to installing. Then search for "How to install KV side mounted drawer slides into your cabinets" on YouTube and you will find a video that shows how to install these (without countertop on). With countertop on it will be more painful due to the limited space you work in. That's when the front mounting brackets come in handy so at least you get the front part positioned properly. The drill holes of your old rear mounting brackets can give you a hint where to mount the new ones. For me it was trial and error until I got bot slides level and parallel. Mounting the members on the drawers is also trial and error. For me the 1 1/4" trick mentioned in the video did not work because my old drawer was slightly skewed. One side had to go lower than the other to get the drawer level. As a bonus slides and brackets are made in USA, so no need to go for Chinese ones. 4drawer slides are a pain in the a** and replacing them is never as easy as videos make it out to be Word of advice for folks doing kitchen remodels or installs - get the soft close drawers installed as a part of the process, not after the fact. Because of this shortsightedness on my part, I have spent countless hours watching youtube videos and reading through hardware specs for drawer slides. Basically, drawer slides are a pain in the a** and replacing them is never as easy as videos make it out to be.These slides require two additional components to function. I find it INCREDIBLY annoying that this company does not have an option to include all 3 components together as a set to save on S&H. Plus, the additional brackets sell as individual items, not as pairs, while the slides sell as pairs. This is an asinine thing, and cost the review one star. Assume that you will pay at least double the cost of the slides to get everything you need for the install. The install itself is another pain in the a** in that (a) working in a cabinet that is already installed is nigh impossible unless you are the size of a hobbit and as slender and flexible as an elf; (b) there are only 8 screws provided, meaning you either need to buy additional screws to secure the slide or you need to make sure you don't put a lot of load on the drawer; and (c) you need to make sure that the slide is absolutely level before fastening it in place, which is incredibly difficult due to point a.Once you actually manage to install the slides, the first thing you'll notice is that the pull required to open the drawer is actually pretty high - it's not an easy pull by any means and you have to overcome a fair degree of resistance. The next thing you notice is that you have to push the drawer pretty solidly to get it to close fully. A soft hip tap to close won't do it any more - you just end up with a partially open drawer cause there's insufficient force to cause the soft-close mechanism to engage. This cost the slides another star. However, when they are installed and when you keep the above two points in mind, the slides work well. I love the soft close mechanism and watching it engage on the closing drawer is great. They do work and they work well. But because of the difficulties above and the lack of consumer-friendly bundling, I rate this as 3 stars.PS - don't be an idiot like me and measure the length of the drawer to determine the slide length needed. Measure from the front of the cabinet face to the back of the cabinet. I've found that this is typically two inches longer than the length of the drawer. Also as an FYI, the back end of the slide just rests in the bracket so it's OK for the slide to be a bit shorter than the length from front to back since the back bracket is about 4" long. 3we are happy with this soft close drawer from KV that has ... We ordered 12 of them (18 an 20") to replace all the drawers in our house to soft close drawers. We have tried another soft close slider brand from HomeDepot before but we felt it required a lot more force to pull out comparing to KV. While their is more premium brands, this one has right price point and quality for us. The replacement was straight forward and took us about 15-30 per drawers. It does need to have prefect alignment for smooth sliding and some TLC is needed on some of our drawers. Overall, we are happy with this soft close drawer from KV that has a right feeling when pulling in and out. 4Quality product at a good price After installing additional cabinets to my kitchen with soft close drawers I wanted to upgrade my existing drawers. The Blum soft close drawer slides were part of the new cabinets but were much too expensive as an upgrade so I chose the Knape & Vogt as an alternative based on all the reviews. The directions were brief but sufficient provided you are a decent handyman however they were not written for someone with little to no experience in cabinet installation. My only additional comment to supplement the rest of the comprehensive reviews is that there is no clear marking as to which slide is meant to be on the left or right. After an incorrect initial install I realized that the red piston or bar must at the top of the slide. If it's at the bottom, the soft close mechanism does not catch properly. 4Solid Solid. Good operational tolerance for imperfect conditions (not perfectly square boxes, not perfectly level cabinets) 5
