False advertising I purchased this system and had it running for a month. My wife complained about the taste, so we left tap water and filtered water sit out over night. The filtered water had oil drops on it the next morning. After several back and forth messages with Ispring support we got to this point:support: "Unfortunately, this system does not remove calcium, mercury, iron, and fluoride. I thinkyou may be confusing the CU-A4 with our reverse osmosis system."my response: On the cover of the CU-A4 manual (attached) it shows that arsenic, lead and fluoride are removed. On page 1 of the manual, it says"4. Third stage: [...] removes pesticides and heavy metals such as chromium, lead, mercury and cadmium..." Now, you say it does NOT remove these things. Are you saying the manual is wrong and your cover page is false advertising? It is possible that during fabrication some oil got into the manifold, but you'd think the filters would actually remove that. But they claim to remove "heavy metals" and explicitly mention lead and mercury. Then, support comes back and says their manual is wrong. So 1) the filters I received put oil into the water, so they don't work and 2) Ispring support denies the filters even work as filters for what it claims it ought to do.They are at least refunding my money. 1Good filter, easy to install and they DO care about their customerFollowed the instruction and installed the filter within 2 hours (note that I am 67 years old). Found out that the faucet included with the package does not work with refrigerator ice marker coming off a T-connector. Called support at iSpring. Within two days, I received my non-air gap replacement faucet. Reconnected everything and added a 35 psi pressure regulator before the filter input, everything is working as expect. To Nike at iSpring - I thank you very much! And I know I will enjoy it for a long time.A side note to DYI'ers - please make sure you push the tubing into the connector all the way before you install the clip. You should felt the snap when the tubing is pushed in. And it is absolutely necessary that you run the water through the filter for a while until it is clear.5Filters last a long time We have had this filtration installed for a year now. The faucet broke after about 15 months for which I would take off a half star if I could. But the filtration system works great. The water tastes great. We go through a lot of water in my household but still have not changed out the filters. In my experience, you will notice a decline in flow or a change in taste when filters need replaced and we haven't noticed either of these. Highly recommend. Also, I did call the company after the faucet broke as I was reluctant to buy the same model as a replacement. They don't sell any other models for this system. Nick said I could use any air-gap faucet so I purchased one at lowes. It has 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch tubing attached to it and I honestly cannot figure out how it is supposed to be configured to this filtration system so I'm returning it and going to buy the original model again. Keeping my fingers crossed that it last longer. I wish they sold it on Amazon as I could get it in 2 days versus 4 days. So guess I'm off to buy bottled water to last this week. 5Installation workaround for a few dollarsThis filtering system comes with all the gadgets to install it under your kitchen sink. Like many others; i tried to install it but the shutoff valve would not turn off even with a torch. Then i realized even if i could, it's next to dishwasher/wood wall. The next step was connecting the valve below the water facet, but the garbage disposal is in front..Do i have to call a money gauging highway robber plumber? -They are the biggest r@tz here in SF.Went to look for adapters and out of the recommendations i found the Malida diverter valve for counter top Water Filters Faucet Adapter, 1/2 inch female thread with push on 1/4 inch tubing. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010673YEA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1This valve had a a couple of reviews stating that it was faulty. Heck i took the chance. You in similar problem? buy two!I got the valve, installed it, cut the 1/2 white and plastic hoses and set it up on the side as you see in the picture. Problem solved w/o spending an hour under the sink or calling a plumber & losing $100-$200 (maybe more) to install a filter. The water tastes great & protects me from iron water pipes that release sooo much lead. I still flush the water for 15 -20 secs before running the filter.5Awesome tasting water This filter system was very easy to install and works great. I added a line to feed the refrigerator water/ice maker and quickly realized there was a problem. The refrigerator would dispense a little bit of water and then taper off to nothing. If I turned the water filter faucet on, the refrigerator would again dispense a little bit of water and then taper to nothing again. The only way I could keep the water from the refrigerator continuously dispensing was to keep the filter faucet on. A quick call to iSpring and they told me the accompanying filter faucet was the wrong one when coupled with feeding the refrigerator. They quickly sent out a new faucet and I sent the original one back to them. The product works great and their customer service is just as good. 5Easy Install and Great WaterI purchased this as our tap water, while usually great, has "off" days where there's a little too much chlorine or other off flavors. We have a refrigerator with a water filter, but it is slow to fill anything of significant size and I like to have filtered water for making coffee and filling water bottles. The water coming from this system, because it removes just the undesirables, gives you great tasting water, better than distilled water in my opinion for drinking. The install was super easy. The most difficult part was finding an appropriate mounting space in my limited under sink area. The kit comes with plenty of 1/4" line, most of which I did not need to use because 2 of the 3 pigtails attached to the valve were more than long enough to connect to the cold water supply and filter input. I only had to use the included additional line to connect the filtered water output back to the valve. The valve/faucet itself is a big step up from most valves as it controls flow going to the filter, not just coming from the filter, so you are much like to have a major failure.5Water is so so, instructions fail Read what the other customers have written regarding the red, white, and blue tubing coming out of the faucet. Really ridiculous that the instructions don't mention all three. The first time I connected the blue tube of the faucet to the outlet of the filter. Water came shooting out of the red tube under the sink. I included a diagram from a youtube video that shows the proper way to connect it. The manufacturer could have put it in the instructions, but they didn't.PROS: the faucet quality seems pretty good. It's solid.CONS: I let it run for about 15 minutes initially. It smells and tastes a little bit like plastic to me. We'll see if that improves over time.Youtube video: [...]UPDATE: The plastic taste has gone away. Also noticed a diagram in the product description. Still wish it had been included with the filter. 4We originally had a RO system that provided us with excellent tasting waterI am a General Contractor/Home builder. We originally had a RO system that provided us with excellent tasting water, but took up most of the under-cabinet and had to be sanitized with bleach at each filter change.. We don't have hard water and our tap water is drinkable but we wanted it cleaner, and the RO had intermittent leak problems. Could I find a system that would relieve us of the clutter , the maintenance, the water leaks under the cabinet, and still get great water?I decided to give the CU-A4 a shot. SO, Here goes what I didn't like, and then what I liked:CONS:1. The directions do NOT adequately describe how to make the water connections. To someone who has installed with these type connections it is an obvious "no-brainer", but to the rest of us.........Parts of the directions appeared to be for a different unit, and especially the section on installing the faucet, which was obviously from their RO system and was not anywhere close to describing the faucet enclosed. The faucet enclosed is an "air gap" style which requires a hole in your sink deck or in your counter of 1 1/8" minimum. The threaded pipe that will go through this opening is 1" in diameter. If your existing hole is anywhere from 1 1/2" to 1 1/8" the provided washer will work fine.2. While there was plenty of 1/4" tubing to do the installation, There are 3 colors of tube, red, white and blue. They provided plenty of blue and white, but not red, therefore I used white and labeled it red to make the job a clean install.3. There is no discussion in the manual of run-in time after completing the install. The water was barely drinkable after letting it free-flow for approximately 10 minutes as suggested in the notes . After flushing the system with approximately 15 more gallons the water was crystal clear and the flavor has become progressively better and better and has stabilized.PROS:1. The system IS actually easy to install when you have familiarized yourself with everything they have sent and how it will work with your existing plumbing and sink. AND you have purchased anything you might need so the system will integrate seamlessly.2. The snap-fit connections work great and do not leak a drop.3. Twist on replacement filters. How could it get any simpler???4. Takes up minimal space.5. The faucet is all metal construction.6. After initial flushing and after the first week of use (approx. 1 Gal per day)t the water tastes GREAT.As good or better than any of the bottled waters we have tested against.7. Every time I have called them (of course during business hours...duh...) they have been very responsive. So, customer service gets a nod.CONCLUSION:Well worth the money,Simple design and installGreat tasting waterNOTES:1.There is a review about salt taste. If you have softened water, then you may want to contact yourservice company regarding what is best to work with your existing system. At the very least do an internet searchon how softeners and filters can work together before purchasing this system.2. There are reviews that mention a 1/2" 3-way valve and having to buy adapter fittings. My system came with a 3/8 to 3/8" 3-way valve (which worked perfectly), so it seems iSpring has changed it to the more typical size.3. One reviewer gave 3 stars because this system does not reduce TDS and it cost them 10% restocking to return it.TDS is reduced by RO systems, This is NOT a RO system. iSpring does not claim reduced TDS. If you need reduced TDS...iSpring has a very highly rated RO system ( http://www.amazon.com/iSpring-RCC7-Reverse-featuring-See-through/dp/B003XELTTG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_sims?ie=UTF8 ) for about $200.00.4. Most every review says the directions suck. I can attest to that. They do!Layout everything from the box, familiarize yourself with it, identify any problems with your existing plumbing. Take the 3-way valve with you to your local home improvement store and buy whatever you need.5. Make certain you have the correct tools to accomplish the install.6. For a water tight connection fit, remove the blue "horseshoe" clips and FIRMLY push the 1/4" tubing approximately 5/16" in to thecouplers until you feel it "bottom out", check the assembly by firmly pulling on the 1/4" tubing. Replace the blue clip.7. I made all of my tubing the same length and long enough for me to remove the filter manifold a couple feet from the cabinet to facilitate changing the filters when that time comes. The tubing is coiled and taped up (love that blue tape), and will be easy to undo and stretch out.8. I purchased an extra set of filters ahead of time, and store them right next to the unit.9. Instead of changing my filters by use of a calendar (such as recommended by the manufacturer, every 6 months), I will change them based on usage. Since we only use it for drinking and cooking, we likely will never hit a max avg of 3gals per day. Most filter manufacturers claim 6mos. is relatively equal to 1200 Gals. Therefore 3 gals x 365 days = 1095 gals. (1095 is approx 90% of 1200 filter life). That is when I will change mine, at about 1 year. You also can adjust your schedule based on this formula. If you use 6 1/2 gals per day, you will hit the 1200 threshold at about 6 months. Were you to use 10 gals per day you would want to replace the filters after 4 months. AND so on.If you don't have a basin wrench, get one from your tool store, (see images) Make your life easier.5Don't buy it "used" on here! READ UPDATE!I thought I was saving money by buying mine "USED" here on Amazon. HOW USED WAS IT?? My water tastes even worse! The chlorine and weird taste has NOT gotten better- it's gotten more pronounced! So basically, I just bought the little rack, tubing and faucet for a few bucks shy of the "NEW" kit! SO MAD! I thought it would get better as it processed more water, as some have said you have to let it run, but it's gotten worse. Now I have to buy new filters, and I'm WAY over what I would have spent if I had just gone for a new unit in the first place, but without any decent water over the past few months!! Why bother offering used units if the filters are spent? Wish I would have thought of that before, DUH! iSpring called me and let me know they do not sell used filters; Amazon does!EDIT/UPDATE: I purchased new filters and WOW!! What a massive difference! So to sum up, again, do NOT buy them USED from Amazon...get new. iSpring's CU-A4 system is amazing! My water tastes GOOD!!5What oily residue? Simple fix, thoughts. This is a great filter for anyone who wants to LEAVE THE GOOD MINERALS IN your water and filter everything else out. The only better filtration is reverse osmosis, but it needs its own separate storage tank so the water is just room temperature, and it has a metallic taste and low water pressure = slow flow. After significant research we decided on this filter for all the reasons above. This fit the bill perfectly with a healthy four filtration stages, great flow and no RO! I had it running in a half an hour with simple inline connections to the 'fridge water line and it eliminated the pesticides and city water taste instantly.Important Notes:#1) This filter prefers to be under 80 PSI water pressure; we live in Minneapolis and had exactly 80 PSI. Make sure you add the iSpring APR40 or APR70 (40 / 70 PSI respectively) to your purchase to ensure long-term leak-free operation#2) As others have mentioned there is a slight oily sheen in the water upon first installation. The oil is there to help seal the cartridges. Simply run 15 gallons of water through the filter to purge it all out, really not a big deal, see images 2-3. Residue and cloudiness are common to nearly ALL water filters upon first installation and the 1-star complaints are indicative of inexperienced DIYers.#3) The included push-to-fit 1/4" water line couplers work on both Copper and PEX/plastic tubing as they are both relatively soft materials with the same outer diameterWater tastes like bottled now and we're extremely satisfied, plus no more pesticides. If I have any problems, you know where I'll be posting them!5One year of use (CU-A4 4-Stage)After a year of drinking water daily from this filter, I can report its held up well, I'm only now returning to replace the filters as our local water in Florida is relatively pure but this makes the water taste much better. Granted we are only two people using this filter, we do almost exclusively drink water, but still its much cheaper then bottled water and tastes just as good, better sometimes. then certain brands.Installation was mostly easy, and the part I had the most difficulty with was tightening the faucet to the sink, it came loose the first time and had to re-tighten, but has stayed in place for over 8 months. Its also pretty cramped behind the sink so it might be easier for you.Biggest wish would be to have the faucet come in a nickel instead of chrome to match the sink.5Great SystemWe were tired of filling up the pitchers so we could drink water. We searched for some time on filters and even tried a couple others that either made the water taste worse or just the same as it was. We happened upon this filter and read up on it and decided to give it a try. We have had it for over a year now and love it. Super easy to install and ran it for some time when it was first hooked up. We still have great tasting water after a year of using it. The filters last much longer than the pitcher ones and have had no problems with it.5Nice product It's simple and fairly easy to install even ... Nice productIt's simple and fairly easy to install even if, with age and my big fat hands, I'm stiffer and clumsier than ever. All the accessories&fittings are included. One quartz hole saw was needed to drill through the counter; HD has a very good one.The customer service was impressive when I called a month or so after 1st use. A yucky black slime had appeared at the faucet! The rep was very nice and identified the probable faulty cartridge. A new one was delivered pronto and all's been fine since. First class response, no haggling! The flow @ 55 sec/gallon feels like an eternity, lol. City water pressure is good @ 40-50 psi, so the cartridges are doing their job I guess. One strange thing: the flow has lost its smoothness. It used to run down smooth like a rope; recently, after a second, it changes to a kind of twirl (?). It looks like there's an obstruction, but removing the faucet (very easy; just lift it off the base) and cleaning/flushing is no help; the stream is still twirling, with the same pressure. No big deal, just weird.Even though we're just the two of us and there's no way we use that much drinking/cooking water, a set of 3 new cartridges was put in 6 months after installing in Jan '16 (the fourth one is good for 1 year) as recommended by ISpring. No point defeating the purpose of the system trying to save a few bucks. All in all, we're very happy with this system; maybe not as "pure" water as a RO, but not as much hassle either, not to mention the bulk and cost. 5Excellent system, but FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. Excellent filter system, good quality mount and faucet. Really like the inclusion of the membrane filter. Best tasting water we've had and have used three different systems. I like the shut off valve that eliminates turning the house water or even the under sink supply off to change filters. CAUTION, if you install it yourself, be certain to FULLY SEAT THE LINES INTO THE QUICK CONNECTS. This is mentioned in the instructions and I have used various push connectors over the years, but these required more effort to seat. The instructions mention marking the lines to be certain they are pushed in far enough. DO NOT NEGLECT TO DO THIS.My son has a reverse osmosis system (I do not wish to remove everything) and loves our system. The water for coffee and juice is terrific. (I grind and French Press my coffee) Without great water, you can't have great coffee. iSpring contains great filters, easy change and quality hardware at a reasonable price. 5Great value and aesthetic installWorks well for rain water catchment cistern system. The big selling point for me is the membrane size is fine enough to filter out bacteria. Can't go wrong if you have a system similar to mine, or possibly even for well water. Install is pretty straight forward, but as other reviewers have said, instructions are not 100% clear on how to do it. You'll have to use your own brain to fill the gaps the instructions lack. Definitely get a basin wrench to cinch down the new faucet you will have to install.5The best alternative to reverse osmosisThis is my second purchase of this unit, as I have moved and I left the unit behind because the buyer requested it to stay. I purchased the unit but prefer to use the European style faucet, which has a single inlet tube, because it matches better with my current kitchen faucet. This can be achieved by using the ispring apr pressure regulator installed in front of the filter unit. I've had two different ispring reverse osmosis systems which I decided to stop using because I like to have minerals in my water and the water from Ro systems tends to be a little bit more acidic and I feel like it's not hydrating me properly, but admittedly that could be all in my head, the water also just seems to taste better to me as long as you flush several gallons through it before use. I also prefer this unit to the RO systems because to change the filters is really easy, there's no tank involved, and it's far more water efficient because RO systems waste a significant amount of water just to produce filtered water. That said, if your goal is only to reduce the TDS meter reading then an RO system is the way to go because on my meter this water has the same reading as tap water, but if you want the best tasting water with a great mouth feel because of the retained minerals then this unit is by far preferable just simply due to the flavor of the water. I have contacted ispring customer support several times just because I lost a piece of equipment or needed assistance with installation, and everyone I've spoken with there has been extremely helpful, they respond within the hour, and they send me parts for free if needed and answer any questions I have. I've dealt with their representative, Nick, a few times and he especially has been extremely helpful. Nick has assisted me with the use of the different type of faucet which my wife is very happy with because it looks really nice mounted. I will say that I've never used the stock faucet so take this review with the grain of salt if you plan on using the stock faucet because I've never installed it so I don't know how its performance will be.5
