Customer Reviews

usb turntableThis is one of the easiest turntables to use. Operation is simple and you can learn quickly what and how to make a recording. The software that came with the turntable, is so easy to master that a child can do it all in a matter of minutes. The few problems that I have had in using the turntable and software were my own mistakes by hitting the wrong button. You do have to pay attention to what you are doing.I would recommend this product to anyone who needs to put their old long playing records on a cd. I gave it five stars.Pete Scaduto5Easy to set up - Takes time to learnI bought this turntable as a gift for my uncle. Before I give it to him (Christmas 07), I wanted to make sure that it wasn't too difficult to use, otherwise, I was planning on sending it back. So I tested it out myself first. The turntable was unpacked, hooked up, and ready to go within minutes. The software was easy to install. There is a little bit of a learning curve with the software, but I thought the manual was sufficiently clear in how to do basic tasks. Noise reduction is a bit tricky to understand, and I would suggest using it minimally. Excessive noise reduction makes music sound muffled and dull. I had my first 6 tracks copied to .wav files within 30 minutes, and was quite pleased with the results. That being said, there are a number of steps required to copy an album to CD. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as putting an LP on the turntable and pressing a button. But from what I've read, it seems like the recording process is pretty much the same for most of the USB-turntables out there. This turntable is nice in that it is automatic (sort of). No need to place the tone arm on the record, or lift it off. A button gently lifts the arm, you *manually* line up the needle at the edge of the record, press the button, and the needle is gently lowered to the surface. If you have shaky hands, this is a nice feature. Many of the turntables at this price are entirely manual. I also like the dust cover - many do not have this feature either - even some of the more expensive ones.I found the sound quality to be quite acceptable, though I'm sure some audiophiles would disagree. I did not notice any "hum" in my digital recordings, nor did I notice any audible wobble. Granted, I don't have the ears of a studio engineer either, but I thought it sounded nice.To be fair, I'll mention some things I didn't like:1. No cueing lever for the tone arm.2. The Audacity program is a little complicated.3. No pitch control.4. If you want to save directly as MP3, you'll need to download and install the LAME encoder (not included with the Audacity software.)5. Directions could have been clearer with regards to Noise Reduction. In summary, it's a good buy for under a hundred bucks. There is a little bit of a learning curve, (which I think is true of all products of this type.) It might be good to have the techie person in your family assist the non-technical person with the setup and recording process until they get the hang of it.4Good product, great serviceI am quite happy with this turntable. It is making a simple job out of a stack of vinyl transfers, though it does take some time to clean up the recording. I'm using the Audacity software (which is freeware, btw) that was bundled with it. It's pretty powerful for noise removal and editing, but not as straightforward as one might wish. I had hoped to use the Gracenote software to auto-label the tracks, but you can't have everything. I like the fact that no additional preamp is needed, but I tend to agree with others who thought the platen of the turntable is a little light. Overall it's a good price for what you get.4Useless so far...waste of timeAfter reading all the good reviews I purchased one for my Mac. I hooked it up today and loaded the disc. Nothing I clicked on would load. I kept getting messages about things missing and as a result it couldn't load. So I played it through Roxio and about 3 times in every song it sounds like the record's under water. I tried adjusting the tone arm weight from very light to very heavy and everything in between. No help. Also the manual says to click on ez audio converter.installer.pkg but it isn't on the disc. I only have a file called install.exe that opens adobe image reader but then tells me that parts of files are missing so I can't open it. So I put audacity in my applications, as per the instructions, but I get a message that it also can not be opened. So...I guess I'll call the non 800 number tomorrow since they're already closed today. So far a total waste of time.I'll update this if I ever figure it out. I REALLY wanted this to work.1Very Pleased With This TurntableI had tried to convert some of my vinyl to MP3 a few years ago using an amp and regular turntable with unfavorable results. My husband bought me this ION Turntable as a Valentines Day gift and I love it.The USB hooks up easily to the computer. There is a little glitch where once you plug it in, you may have to go to your sound settings and reset them but the package comes with instructions on how to do this and it only takes a few seconds to fix.The turntable is plastic but it's not too flimsy. There is a slight wobble but it did not affect recording. It is super easy to use, just install the EZ Vinyl Converter software. I didn't bother installing Audacity because I use Adobe Audition to edit audio. You can record albums as one big mp3 or separate tracks with the click of a button. It saves as wav or mp3.The only major thing I didn't like about this item was the fact that I was forced to install iTunes to get EZ Vinyl Converter to work. Most people who have iPods won't mind this, but I had no use for this program. The cords on the turntable and usb could have been longer. It also would have benefited by the addition of pitch control. The latter can be edited in an audio program though.Overall I am very happy with this item. I finally have MP3's of songs that are not available on CD or any digital format. It only took about 15 minutes to figure it all out and get to ripping.4A GOOD PRODUCT........BUT IT CAN BE TIME INTENSIVEReady to use rite out of the box...I have been recording all my 1500 plus albums to my computer and all is well so far..Play back in my car is just fine..But this thing is VERY time intensive...Having to hit the "next" key after EVERY SINGLE TRACK is a pain in the...........But I can now burn any track from any album I have to a CD...After recording one side of an album you must stop and incert Artist name, album name and tracks recorded before recording the other side...I wish it would just "pause" so you can have all your music put together from that one album...I have found that the sound quality is good on play back...So I have not needed to download any of the advance recording options. I dont see why its really needed.. After all, I kind of like some of the snap, crackle, pop of those old albums...It just wounld'nt be right to listen to "The Osmonds Live" any other way...LOL!!Over all, Im lovin it...4I love this thing! This was a Christmas gift for my father, he's got a lot of old records that have just been sitting in the closet since his old turn table died years ago. Since he drives around most of this day I thought he might like to convert his records to CD's and listen to them....not to mention I wanted to have some of them in a digital format as well. The software didn't get rave reviews but worked fine for me. It took a little bit of toying around to figure out how to make stereo tracks and how to change the ID3 tags but once I did I was going strong. The sound quality is higher than I actually expected it to be. All in all it's a great unit.4You get what you pay for. After reading many reviews on this product, I decided to order one. I felt it was relatively inexpensive and many reviews commented on its so-so quality but it worked. When I received it, I felt the reviews were right on. I first noticed the software for the easy transfer was not present for a Mac. I felt I would waste more time trying to track that down then I would spend learning the Audacity slightly more complicated software. I printed out the direction from the Audacity website, set my computer as stated on the directions and tried a minute or so as advised. Worked great, I was happy. A few days later as planned when I had time to transfer several LP's I ran into my problem. After the first 5 minutes or so the music became very distorted. I tried several more times and the same thing happened several minutes into the transfer. I felt I had a defective product and proceeded the return procedure. The policy was no replacements. It stated you will be credited for the product and the return shipping because it was their fault. Amazon was quick to acknowledge the return and credit my account-great customer service. You may reorder another one.The quality of the turntable and the missing software made me uncertain if I want another one or if I should spend more for a better product.3Lots of fun, works great! This is not a high end piece of electronics, however it works as stated. It's simple and a lot of fun. I only had one small problem. After loading the support software, I lost all sound playback on my laptop. I jacked around with it for a while, and emailed the ION folks for help. It was on a Saturday so I didn't expect an answer until Monday. I caved in, read & followed the instructions. I simply had to reset the playback default setting in the control panel. (Just like the instructions had said.) The software changes the playback default source to the USB port used by the turntable. I reset it back to the sound card and all was good. This is a one time deal. It's a no brainer to copy tracks from your old LP's and save them as MP3 files. Buy one and have fun. It's a neat toy for the money! ION did respond Monday morning.4nice, great quality, light,.. just rather bulky for my bedroom..I bought this to play all my dad's old LP and hoped could convert it to CD. My dad always wanted to play his collection again in CD. Until now, i dont have any problem in playing. it plays well. The quality, considered excellent to me.What I like is, it sounds perfect, light, and sold in reasonable price. For this reason, I pick it than non usb turntable sold in where i live that more expensive, while the sounds quality maybe similar or just slightly better or worse. What I dont like is it's rather bulky for my room. i think i mis-estimated its size. I was rather disspaointed when i realize that the format could be converted is to .wav, while i prefer .cda. it looks i have to use other software to have it in cda.5
