Customer Reviews

Great little amp!A friend gave me an old pair of floor speakers off his old home theater system, so I decided to use them in my garage. To do this, I needed a little amp like this Pyle model so I could connect my iPod and play to the big speakers. All you need is the right cables. I bought one with an audio jack on one end and RCA plugs on the other, and this let me connect my iPod, then I used speaker wire to connect the two speakers. It gets plenty loud for a 2 car garage, and the bass and treble response are quite good. There are many applications for this sort of thing, from PA systems to makeshift stereos, and so on. It works great, is simple to setup, and definitely worth the price.5HumAfter reading varied reviews I wasn t expecting much quality. What I found was a sturdy, well packed unit. Once connected to an insanely priced Bose accoustimas 2-speaker system (with subwoofer), DVD player and tv was nothing short of incredible sound! Yes there is a slight hum when you first turn it on when there is no engaged secondary sound (as in a dvd playing). But once the movie begins it is very impressive for such a nominal cost for the receiver. It is set up for a bedroom and not sure how the bose five speaker with subwoofer system in living room would work; so, it will stay connected to the $400 receiver. Nonetheless, I love the little receiver so far!5I knew it wouldn't be a 5 star item, but I still like it. after reading the other reviews on here, I knew this wouldn't be a five star product. It was built down to a price, and it shows in the final product. When my unit arrived there was a distinct rattling sound of a loose screw inside the unit.after disassembling the unit, I found that it was missing one of only two bolts which hold the transformer to the chassis. It seems it must have been over-torqued at the factory which stripped out the threading in the chassis. It would have worked without fixing it, at least for the time until the loose screw shorted something out and blew up the internal fuse, or worse; I feel better having taken this apart and replaced the bolt. This is a failure that really shouldn't happen but we're talking about a Chinese product made with almost zero quality control or warranty.Apart from that issue however, this thing actually sounds /Really/ good! The unit is bit larger than I would have imagined, and a whole lot heavier than I thought it would be. That's a good thing. There is an adequate amount of bass/treble control and all the rheostats move slowly without static. They feel like high quality components. The Power LED is red, which earns bonus points from me for not being that horrible shade of overly bright "Black-Friday Blue" which is common with cheap electronics. Still, I put a piece of electrical tape over it with a very tiny pinhole. I'm still glad it has a power LED, but a dimmer one is always best. The PCB looks very easy to service if something goes wrong, and based on other reviews I wouldn't count on manufacturer warranties being very helpful.bottom line: If you're techy and don't mind getting your hands dirty, this might be a great amp for computer speakers or something simple. If you can afford something better or want the peace of mind that comes with a quality product with a warranty, look elsewhere.Overall, I'm happy with the performance of this product. 3Easy to hook up and useI have been using this little amplifier since November 2011 and it has been very reliable. Easy to hook up and use, worth the money. However the advertised power spec of 2 channels at 40 watts are very misleading. The manual that comes with it states more accurately that it puts out 8 watts per channel for 4 ohm speakers. If you have 8 ohm speakers, the output will be reduced to 4 watts. This is not a deal killer for bookshelf size speakers but forget using it with larger floor standing speakers.3A Simple, Solidly Built BargainPower, volume, bass & treble controls - I love the simplicity for my use in my nine small retail service locations. No chance of my employees selecting the wrong input, output, etc. I use the amplifier with a streaming music source and four 8-ohm, 2-way speakers in our ceiling. The sound is clear and enjoyable. Although only rated 8 watts per channel at 1% THD, it cranks surprisingly well. The tone controls allow me to add a bit of solid bass without a trace of thump or mid-bass hump. My employees are delighted with the sound quality. The compact size, simple controls and integral power supply (no wall wart) makes it much more convenient that a typical large stereo receiver. It's perfect for my needs. Highly recommended. I've just purchased six more for most of my other locations.UPDATE: I've purchased 10 units. One has become defective, but Amazon quickly refunded the purchase. The other nine are working great so far.5Not sure what I expected for the price, but ...Not sure what I expected for the price, but boy is this thing a piece of junk. One of the spring-loaded speaker connectors popped out the moment I inserted a wire. Took me a few minutes of fiddling to get it back in, then it came right back out again when I tried re-inserting the wire. I now just have the wire stuffed in and splayed down to keep it working for the moment so I can see how it sounds. Maybe the connector issue is just the result of a defective unit, but I won't be replacing it, because the sound is awful: it passes an atrocious amount of mains hum to the speakers. I tried to start the return process, by reason of a defective item, but got a message that it isn't eligible for return, which is odd because it doesn't fall into any of the usual non-eligible product categories. I could follow up with Amazon support but the thing is so cheap that I probably won't bother. It goes in the trash.1For this product, two strikes is out for PyleI bought one of these amps several years ago to use with my PC, and it has worked almost flawlessly in daily use since then. I say "almost flawlessly" because the power indicator LED stopped working about a year ago, but that's the only thing that's gone wrong.Recently I bought a new flatscreen, and like most flatscreens, its internal speakers are terrible. I already had an extra pair of small bookcase speakers, so I moved the old PCA2 to the TV and ordered a new one for my PC.I don't know where Pyle went wrong, but the new one produces a 60 Hz hum through the speakers when turned on, and it does this with or without anything connected to the input ports, and regardless of what AC circuit it's plugged into. I don't know enough to go chasing down the problem, so I contacted Amazon and they sent me another free of charge (as noted by others here, this amp is not returnable).Unfortunately, the second one also hums. Both amps play back whatever is sent to them, but the hum is always there. This is a shame, given the performance I've had with the one I bought years ago.I went to Pyle's website, but they don't take returns on items not purchased directly from them, and under "warranty" they advise contacting the manufacturer (let that sink in). I looked, but I can't find anything on their website about warranty coverage. In short, it seems that Pyle isn't willing to do anything about a defective Pyle product. This is the last time I'll buy anything with the Pyle name.1Pyle refuses to honor warranty, terrible Customer ServiceTerrible Customer service. Small red speaker clip popped out. Under warranty, many emails, online forms. Pyle still would not ship broken part, wanted me to pay $12.00 for it. Email went back and forth but still no part. Very disappointed, can't recommend.1Proof that digital audio is the worst thing that ever happened to musicThis little amp is now connected in my office, using the RCA audio output from a TV to power some old, 90s-era wooden speakers which stand about 2 feet tall each (thanks Dad!). The audio output from my computer is the source of the sound. In short, I can't believe how awesome music sounds out of this. I prefer listening to music out of these speakers now over a much much much more expensive Bose home theater system in my living room. There are kids today who may NEVER hear analog audio, and will never understand how amazing it is. And this amp only cost me $30. I simply can't believe it.The operation is simple - on/off switch, volume control, and bass/treble controls. It converts digital to analog, and outputs audio through old-fashioned speaker wire. There is no pre-processing nonsense happening to the audio. There is no automatic volume limiting nonsense, which is a curse of newer audio systems. If you buy an amp which outputs more power than your speakers can handle, you will blow your speakers. It's fantastic! Sounds better than I expected, and then some. One star reduction for a humming sound which, to be fair, is only audible when there is silence in the room. Still a tad bit annoying, though.4Great productI love this product! It's about the size of my hand and fits perfectly on my desk. I bought this for my Audio Technica turntable / record player. I had some old Jenson speakers in the basement; I dusted them off and attached speaker wire to them. The other end of the speaker wire goes into the Pyle amp. Then the turntable's RCA jacks hook into the amp also. I made sure to plug the amp and the turntable into the same power strip to eliminate any chance of background hum. And presto-- it works exactly as advertised. I LOVE it! It took less than 5 minutes to hook up. The volume is perfect! I like that I can control the bass and treble. As far as the volume, it can either be very quiet or very loud; perfect for either background music while working in my office and loud enough for background music during a party. I was worried about the other reviews and the 'hum' but I read you can eliminate that plugging the amp and the turntable into the same power strip: I have zero humming, so that's cool.5but had poor low frequency response as expectedI bought this cheap Pyle PCA2 amp about 3 years ago and just saw it in my Amazon purchases after long forgetting about it. For a cheap amp it is OK, but had poor low frequency response as expected. Its tonal quality always sounded subpar, and when it died after ~1 year of occasional use, I was glad to not have to listen to it anymore. I thought that since it has a metal case it might last for a while, but within 6 months the volume potentiometer became scratchy (amplifier noise when rotated) and within another 3 months the speakers would occasionally cut out. I honestly think it is a waste of metal to use such a mechanically robust case for such a junky amplifier. I removed the electronics from the case to throw away, and maybe someday I'll find something better to use the empty case for. A new potentiometer may have fixed the problem with the electronics, but the poor tonal quality did not justify even bothering to look for simple problems let alone troubleshoot it.1
