great for a farmI have this mounted about 15ft in the air on the tv antenna pole and can see and connect to the wifi router from the other side of the farm (over 1000 ft of flat land with no trees) now if I could get cable internet instead of satellite.P.S. the cat 5 cable from the power injector to the router is NOT included as this is what needs to be fished from your internet source inside through the wall to the unit inside. I used a 50 ft roll of cable to get this setup. 5I got good link and was able to interact with it through ...Full disclosure, I fully admit to not paying attention to the 30 day return limit. Having said that, the 2 stars are partly for Amazon and partly for the product. I bought two to set up as a point to point bridge pair. I've used one of this model's predecessors to bridge 3 buildings on a large site and am experienced with setup and tweaking. Of the two I just bought, the first one set up ok. The second one made it through the basic setup, but after the first settings application, quit talking to me. By quit talking, I mean I could no longer get a link light on my NIC. I used all of the same cables and widgets that I successfully used with the first one. Just to be certain, I replaced each component one by one with the unused set. Still no link light. Replacing the second HOD45B with the first, I got good link and was able to interact with it through the web interface. With all of the other components proven good, I called TECH support. After about 15 minutes, they came to the same conclusion I did - some component was toast on the second unit. I logged into Amazon to set up a return and... 30 days expired 4 days ago. Lame. I just bought another one. I will update my review after I attempt to set it up. 23Apr15 Update: No problems setting up the replacement and it s been online for over a month. As with most models of wireless bridges, I ve found that limiting its options yields a more reliable connection and consistent throughput. Letting it pick channel width (20/40) and 802.11 (b/g/n/mixed) results in lots of dropped packets and slower overall average bandwidth in anything other than an optimal environment. 2Don't get your hopes up. Not worth the money.I have a very large yard and wanted better Wi-Fi coverage than I had with my previous low cost outdoor access point. I had high hopes for this product but thus far I have been very disappointed with the signal from the Hawking Technology Hi-Gain Outdoor Dual-Band Wireless-600N Multifunction Access Point. I have my device configured as an access point. The signal is up and down and I frequently lose connectivity and have to turn off my device Wi-Fi and turn it back on again to reconnect. I called Hawking Tech Support and went through all of the trouble shooting steps with both low and high level support people only to be told that my new device was defective. I was given a case number and told to return to Amazon for a replacement device. I personally don't believe the device to be defective. I believe it to be the typical Wi-Fi device that promises great coverage but can't deliver. 3Don't buy this junk. Doesn't work. No AP mode. Universal repeater is crap and stops working.Total junk. Won't work as an AP. And as a universal repeater, it needs to be reset nearly every day, and then it takes forever just to get it to work again, if it is even possible. Too much of a pain and too much time wasted and complaints about no wifi. The Hawking tech people don't do anything except for drag you through the quick set up again and then they say they will check into it and call me right back, but nobody ever calls. More of a waste of time. Long story short, it's junk. Don't buy it'. Those simple little dual band repeaters that cost around $25 work so much better. Especially for the money. I recommend tplink. 1HOD45B.....Dont buy!!!!I read several of the negative reviews and figured since I am an electronics technician I should be able to overcome most of the listed troubles!!!! Wrong!!! This thing is horrible. I called tech support 3 times in 2 weeks and my wife called from her phone 3 times in the same 2 weeks. They NEVER returned our calls. They are also outsourced from a foreign country. I had to reboot the device daily and it would never work in WDS mode. I do believe some of the troubles I had were heat related. I live in Louisiana and its been 92-98 almost everyday. This was my 2nd repeater and they both had done nothing but give me problems. Maybe if Hawking has some type of technical support we could have worked through it, but I returned it for a full refund....THANK YOU AMAZON......although WIFI and IT is not my specialty in the electronics field, communications is. Both RF and other forms of transportation of data. I would advise everyone to stay away from this product. 1Work's Great!I have a client who wished for me to set up a WiFi signal between their barn and their main house. Having previously used their HW2R1 smart repeaters, I decided to try their outdoor device. The product installed pretty easily. It comes with outdoor mounting brackets for either a wall install or a pole. I had to buy a Ethernet cable for the PoE install (the client wanted it mounted outside his house on the 2nd floor). There are several modes, Access Point, bridge, etc. and it even has a universal repeater mode (which can come in handy if I want to make a big network). I used it in Access Point mode because the client just needed WiFi access around his property. The whole setup procedure took around 15 minutes (most of it involved doing the wiring and securing the access point on the wall.Coverage was pretty decent. It works on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz and the one unit I had easily covered the area between the barn and the main house.Overall, I have no complaints. 5Very good WIFi booster, setup each time a bit of a bust.Item works better than expected. Pickup several wi-fi in the area. We use it in our RV to try and get a decent signal. Boosting most signals to 86% which is solid, many are at 100%, but can pick those up without the booster. Booster also allows a manual firewall for a little extra security when using an open wifi. Installation was very easy. Cons are it comes with only a 3 foot coax which is only good for the setup in my opinion. Other con is there is no simple shortcut you can put on your desktop to open it up to local wifi. Have to go to setup each time to scan for local signals. Very similar to entering router setups. Also does not show which signal you are connected to or the strength on the desktop, when a signal goes bad it still shows a strong connection to the repeater, but not the other WiFi. It really needs some type of desktop software for simplicity. Have to go into setup to check that. I would do 5 stars for quality, but I had to return the first unit because it was missing parts. I will say amazon and hawking was very quick with a replacement unit and the customer service was very good. Little difficult to do a good review as the park we are in has lousy WiFi service, unfortunately the repeater can not boost the speed of lousy service of too many people online. 4Exceeds my expectations.I purchased mine directly from Hawking. I've been using it for two years now with excellent results. I live on 33 acres and get coverage over most of my property except where there are dense trees in the signal path or the land drops 150' to the lakefront. I am able to connect with a fair signal well over 1/4 mile away. I am extremely satisfied with this product. 5Not Impressed!!I have had 2 of these operating for 3 years. Alas, one started dropping the signal on a regular basis. I reviewed the options currently out there and was wary of ordering another of these because of the recent reviews. On the advise of one of our guest that does computer networking & programming for a client network, I ordered another of these. At first it seemed to work okay but then starting dropping signal and having to be rebooted every couple of days. Tech support adjusted settings, etc and we got a little better service, but then the dropped signal starting occurring again. I thought it might be our Dlink wireless repeater that was sending the signal to the Hawkings and replaced it with a Linksys. Our guest are still complaining about no signal or poor signal so we have increased the amount of bandwidth coming into the park. The Linksys has an upload speed? of 17.66, the Hawkings sitting right at it (we took it down from its mount to try to reset it) only 2.29. 2Don't stop here, keep Looking for another repeaterI purchased this unit four months ago. After some initial configuration issues, it ran without issues for a while with thanks to tech support. However for the past month it has had intermittent issues where it will not accept connections and goes down at least once every twelve hours and must be reset. I have made a number of calls to tech support, but either the unit is up and working fine (nothing to do) or it is down and cannot be accessed (and I get to spend 30 minutes testing wires with tech support). Either way, support for this flakey unit has been somewhere between OK and poor. Documentation for the unit isn't great, and does not go beyond plug-and-play troubleshooting. We'll see how big a PITA it is to get a replacement unit under the warranty. 1
