What's not to like? Granted, you're limited to half-hour brackets but so what? It's WAAAY easier to program than the digital one, which yes, does allow you to set it to the exact minute you want and has a "Random" feature, but will make you insane if you don't have a powerful magnifying glass and the patience of a saint. Or maybe it's just me. Could be. Anyway, these are just fine, they do the job. 5No refund for damaged product???????? If I could give GE a negative review, they would receive it on this product. It did not work at all. They give you two different numbers to call, as if we have time to play games with them. I will take a hit. But I will never buy another GE product. I specifically look for return policy when I purchased on Amazon. And this one failed to inform if they would return a damaged product that does not work a return policy. Please save your money. Luckily my old timer started working again, due to a power outage. 1Works great, but has developed a maddening ticking sound over time I purchased several of these to replace older timers that had started to develop a slight noise over several years. These were silent out of the box, but over the course of several weeks they developed a louder and louder ticking noise (think a laptop cooling fan with bad bearings). Several months later, each of them developed variable levels of noise all louder than the timers I had replaced, including one that started to make an intermittent tapping noise that ultimately led me to throw it away. Also as noted by other reviews, the product that was shipped was not the same as the product shown in the photos. This was not a deal breaker for me, but may be for others.Bottom line: very useful timer if you don't mind a little bit of noise, suitable for areas with background noise or not used for sleeping. Would not recommend for rooms were it will be quiet as the ticking is liable to get on your nerves. 2A relatively simple timer that works and does it's job. A relatively simple timer that works and does it's job.Programing it is as simple as turning the dial to roughly the correct time and then popping out the little pastic tabs of the times you want your device to turn on. Plenty of freedom to control the times the timer functions. Without reading any instructions I had it opened, set, plugged in and running in less than five minutes.Positives:- The outlet it has to plug your device into is on the side. I like this design so items like lamps can be plugged in with a couch right up on the electric socket. With some of the front plug designs you're forced to move the couch off the wall several inches to accomodate the plug.- For a mechanical timer it is extremely quiet. To hear it you have to have your ear right next to it in a silent room and know you're listening for it. It is directly next to my couch and I can not hear it running when laying on the couch when the room is silent.- It has a bypass button to go from timer mode to normal outlet mode. I tested it and it worked on mine. While I don't use this feature it may be nice for some users out there. It lost a star for the following reasons, nothing huge, but things to be aware of:- Be careful plugging it in after it's set... it's not hard to push in the little tabs you pull out to set the times your device will be on.- The plug on the side only supports two prong electrical plugs. Anything with the third ground prong will not work in it. All the lamps I check in my house are only two prongs, so this isn't an issue for me, but something others should be aware of.- While the timer isn't huge, on an electrical socket it can take up a little room. If you have the option make sure you plug it in the bottom outlet otherwise it will block it.- It only has one plug for a device. I would have liked more, but was fully aware of this from the description. 4Work Great, But Can Be Noisy--Not Recommended for Bedrooms I bought several of them (3 or 4) and they all work just fine. They are very easy to use and set up. My only qualm is that one of them is dead silent, one hums, and the others are kind of noisy. I use one in my office with a light that I like to go on and off because it is a corner room of the house facing a street, and that one is super noisy. I switched it with another one, and eventually that one just went noisy too.Just realize that you will hear them in a quiet room. I would not recommend these in a bedroom or room where people are sleeping like in a studio apartment. But in offices or other rooms where you will not be sleeping, these work just fine! 4They time stuff! I got two of these to put in my girls' bedroom. One of them times a large nightlight so the girls can have half hour of reading time after I tuck them in, without me having to go back in or them having to be trusted to turn it off on their own.The second one is timing their white noise fan, which is on all night and during nap times. I used to just leave it on all the time, but this will probably preserve the fan's lifespan some, and save me some power bill money! To set them, since I wanted them to be pretty exact on what time they turn on, I waited until the time was on the hour, and then I spun the knob carefully to that hour and had the light click on. That way I knew it was set right. It's a couple (literally, two) minutes off several weeks later, and of course I'll have to reset it if we lose power, but they are cheap enough that I don't have to worry about a rambunctious four year old breaking something pricey. 5It works well and it's super simple. GE's mechanical timer is simple, nicely made, and small. The timer is made completely of plastic, but everything feels solid and well made. The timer is very compact and not much larger than a box of playing cards. It's very simple to use. There is a polarized plug on the right hand side of the timer and on the front of the timer is a rotating "clock" that has pins around the outside edge. To active the plugged in item you simply slide the pins in or out. You can set the timer to turn to activate in 15 minute increments, or you can have it run all the time by flipping the switch on top. The pins are attached to the timer, so they cannot be lost. To set the current time you simply rotate the outer ring until the correct time lines up with the arrow on the front.I've been using it for a couple of months now to turn a small lamp on and off in our guest bedroom. I have it set to turn on and off at a few times from 8 PM to 12 AM. It works perfectly, makes little noise, and runs accurately. All in all... a great little timer. 5Good price, good product This is a great little timer that seems to work exactly as designed. It's super easy to set and works reliably. 1) Turn the dial so that the arrow is pointing to the current time. 2) Pull all tabs up and depress the tabs that represent the times you want an appliance/lamp to have power. Note: Pay attention to whether you're setting day or night hours. 3) Leave plugged because the unit requires power to keep the proper time. When needed, there is an "always on" feature on top of the timer so you can have non-stop power to the built-in plug regardless of the settings. Though the timer works as designed, I'm not altogether sure that the design is the best. Though I think this will work perfectly for lamps and appliances that you may not want to frequently unplug, it's not as well suited for using with old coffee percolators that need to be unplugged daily for cleaning. It's very easy, when trying to unplug the affected appliance, to accidentally push down the tabs that cause the timer to activate. This can result in unexpected or unwanted behavior. In my case, it results in coffee being perked before I'm ready to drink it.Pros: Simple to use, accurate, inexpensive, reliable.Cons: Design makes it easy to accidentally dispense power outside the desired time range. 4One less thing to think about This product is simple, works well and seems pretty rugged. I have it set up to give light to some plants that I am growing inside. It has been working problem free for just over a month now with daily on and off cycles. After setting the correct time on the face you simply select the desired time for the light (or whatever you are plugging into the timer) to turn on. It isn't super accurate at setting the time, although it is close. For example I have mine set to turn off at 10:30 but it actually turns off around 10:23. I'm sure if you played with it a little you could get it to turn on/off within a minute or two of when you wanted. If your needing something to turn on at a very precise time (within a few seconds of actual time of day) this might not work very well as you just don't have the means to set it that precise. I would imagine these would work great for christmas lights although I probably wouldn't use it outside. I would buy this again if I needed an outlet timer. 5Works OK... but... and ... Works OK...but...and a big but...I should have paid more attention to detail. This is a 2 prong plug and my old one was a grounded plug. Also this on only has oneoutle the old one I bought this one to replace had two. So please make sure this is the one you need. In my case it made me get a different extension cord etc. The old timer shown next to the new timer in the buble pack, 4
