Customer Reviews

Worthless I was really hoping that the reviews were not true. The first time I removed this grid from a softbox I was extremely careful yet I still broke some stitches on it. It is extremely fragile and won't last. I'm returning it. 1It is not the highest quality, but it is good I bought this for an older, smaller softbox (32x40) with the idea that I would modify it to fit, so I wanted something relatively cheap in case I screwed it up in the process. Turns out I didn't have to do anything to it, there was a way to put it on the box without excess hanging off.I admit, this is not the sturdiest of grids. It is not sewn where the corners come together. Instead one ribbon passes through a slit in the other. I am guessing that slit is what has caused the ripping that others have had a problem with. There isn't much material where they join, and I can see that spot tearing with rough treatment, or a glitch in manufacturing. It should be fine if treated a little gently. This isn't a four star grid in the same way a name brand grid would be, but then again, you would pay $200 for one of those, which I can't justify. This is a four star grid because it does the job and it didn't break the bank-- value for money. 4These things are flimsy at best. I am satisfied with these for my purposes I bought this one to replace one of my egg crates that had fallen apart. My first one started tearing the first time I used it. You must be very delicate with these things. They work very well for controlling your light, just be careful. These things are flimsy at best.I am satisfied with these for my purposes, however for the price I would have expected something with a bit better build quality. 3Don't waste your money, this grid ripped after three uses This grid is an absolute piece of junk. I removed it from the softbox on a recent shoot and it ripped to the point of being unusable. The velcro frame that attaches to the soft box is well-built and durable. The fabric--if you can call it that--on the interior is very thin and weak and destined to fail as it did in our case. On closer inspection, the grid material looks like what you'd expect from a disposable product. In cutting corners with the material, Fotodiox has created a grid that doesn't live up to the quality of its softboxes. What a shame. I have never seen a grid like this and hope I never have to work with one again for fear of having it fail in the middle of a job. 1Not as bad as the reviews say, but be sure to follow these important tips I was so nervous buying this, but when the only other retailer was out of stock for over a month with no hope of having their grid available , I had no other option. My only frame of reference is Paul C Buff. These are no where near s durable. You should NEVER pull them off with any amount of force -- If you can hear the velcro from across the room, that's too fast!! Instead, I carefully remove them one bit at a time.I also inserted them about an inch inside the softbox, leaving an inch of velcro in case I needed to throw the diffuser on top quickly and din't have time for the slow removal. Most importantly, I installed the grids with the velcro near the outside of the softbox and the side without velcro on the inside. I suspect that they will tear more easily if you're pulling on the part that isn't attached.I don't expect to remove these grids very often, so I think these will work for me as long as I handle them with kid gloves. Good luck -- I hope this is helpful!! 4a) rips easily as many have noted Very flimsy. This means two things: a) rips easily as many have noted. Will probably be unusable after a couple more photo sessions b) significant outward bowing in the middle. This means the 50 degree light spread is really far more because the grids are not all facing straight out, but at an outward angle. Will probably buy a grid from Westcott. They're absurdly expensive ($250), but appear to be far more robust and are 40 degree. 2Photo misrepresentation of what's for sale Perhaps I should partially blame myself for not reading further into the item description and what other reviewers noted, but I ordered this item to be used with an aquarium and what I received was very different from what was pictured. The picture depicts a plastic eggcrate sheet (also known as light-diffusing material sold at big-box hardware stores), however what I recieved was a velcro/vinyl strap material that was useless for my project. 2Confusion over product details The one I got was made of cloth (hook and loop fastener tape) around the outside but has plastic strips on the inner part which is 95% of the product. I am returning it since it was supposed to be cloth and does not really look like it will stand up to being installed and pulled off the soft box more than a few times. A Photoflex grid is about triple the price but far better made. No deal here, you get what you pay for and unfortunately I don't think this is worth the money. 2Cheap ... won't buy again The short story is that it works just fine - its some sort of fabric/plastic material that does the trick. Unfortunately the first time I went to remove it (after about a month) it tore 5 or 6 squares apart. Attempted to carefully remove it from the bottom side and the same thing happened. It's not going to last long. It's my fault for buying cheap, now I get to buy again...when will I learn?! 2Handle with care. These fit like they are supposed to and does the job, but I can see what the other reviewers are saying. This thing is really fragile, and if you are not careful, could tear easily. I plan on on replacing this all of my softbox's and grid's with the Paul Buff versions eventually, so until then, I'll be handling handling this grid with kid gloves and will probably go through a bit of gaffers tape to repair it during it's lifetime. It's a shame, because their EZ-Boxes are really well made. 4
