pretty simple really This is just a spacer ring. It makes up the difference between 42mm and 39mm. It's the simplest way to mount M39 lenses to any camera if you already have a 42mm (Pentax) screw mount adapter. Remember, those Leica etc. lenses will only focus at macrodistance with SLR/DSLR cameras due to the greater flange-to-film (sensor) distance required by the camera's mirror box. 5Stuck in the M42 threads Bought this to put an M39 lens on the end of a bellows for macro photography. Not it is stuck in the threads. There has to be a better choice out there! 2Be careful Lens fit fine into inner thread but outside thread won't go more than 1 turn on camera, tried with multiple m42 cameras 1screws in just right. screwing back off is always ... screws in just right. screwing back off is always an issue though. 3Not even close to jamming on mine I saw that the other reviews stated that this mount has a high potential of getting stuck on the lens and/or the mount, which originally detoured me from purchasing it. Left with no other mounting options for my first generation Helios-44 with 13 aperture blades, I went for it and used it with my Fotodix M42 to M43 adapter, and it worked fine. It's never even gotten close to jamming up, but I can see how this could happen if one exerted themselves by tightening it as much as possible. Even if this did occur, it seems like you could use some needle nose pliers or something to loosen it up. The bottom line is that it gets the job done, but just be careful as you should with any sort of adapter that you attach your lens. I just had to write this review because I didn't want people in the same situation as me to not buy this adapter because two people had a bad experience with it. It hasn't happened here yet, but I will update my review if any jamming issues occur. The only negative I found is that it's easy to lose this adapter because it's so thin. 5Excellent M42 to M39 adapter. Excellent M42 lens mount to M39 lens adapter! Works exactly as i expected it to. I am mounting older style (silver thread) Nikkor-EL lenses to the (avail. on Amazon dot com) M42 to M42 focus helicoid. 5Combined with the Fotodiox M42 to EOS it works perfectly ... Combined with the Fotodiox M42 to EOS it works perfectly for adapting a Jupiter 9 to my Canon 5Dmkii. Take care screwing them on as it's a bit touchy. Once you get it, it works perfectly. The lens markings line up and you can focus to infinity. 5It's hard to thread on, so you'll need a ... It's hard to thread on, so you'll need a spanner wrench. Once I got it into place, the lens didn't screw all the way into my Pentax K1000. I was afraid to force it, and decided not to use it. I may try it on a junk M42 camera body someday. 2Fotodiox products recommended I have always been happy with Fotodiox products. I have many of their step-down and step-up rings and adaptors such as this. This adaptor is no different. Well made with acceptable tolerances, a good fit on the lens and made of metal. You should be aware that you cannot use this adaptor to connect a M39 lens directly to your camera unless you have an M42 mount camera. To connect an M39 lens to a Canon or Nikon you need an adaptor to go from M39 to your camera mount not this adaptor. You can also use this to connect to an M42 to Canon/Nikon mount. So that would be two adaptors (as shown in the product photos) as follows M39 to M42 plus M42 to Canon EOS or Canon FD or Nikon F.So you can use these adaptors to mount the lens but of course everything is manual and focus distance will be limited. You will probably need a focusing helicoid adaptor to use the lens if you expect more than close focus. Hope this helps to shed some light on these adaptors. 5Will get few more... Got this adapter ring to mount early zenit M39 Tair 11, Industar 61L/Z, Jupiter-9, Mir-1 (early Grand Prix edition) to M42 adapters (for Sony Nex and Canon).Few things:Ring screws on and off very smooth on both lens' and adapter's end, but not loose at all - so i doesn't unscrew the lens when focusing.Holds the weight well (tair 11 weighs well over a pound)No jamming or thread jumping whatsoever.Aligns marking on a lens to center top view.Retains infinity focus on all of my M39 lenses.Price is just right (paid $1.27) 5
