    Output SMA connector didn't fit into case - needs better quality controlThe enclosure I received didn't fit the output-side SMA connector as the hole was misaligned by about 1/16" too short on the edge next to the switch no matter how I played with the standoffs. I had to use a metal file to open up the hole more to fit the end cap over the board on the enclosure and mashed up the edge a bit. Ironically, there's lots more room on the input-side SMA connector which had a bit of a gap around the connector making that end cap an easy fit. I hope NooElec steps up their quality control on these in the future. 2Looks good. Protects the Ham It Up wellLooks good. Protects the Ham It Up well. All hardware was present and all holes matched my board perfectly. Not exactly inexpensive for an aluminum box, but I couldn't have built it better for the cost. Highly recommend for protecting your Ham It Up board from stressing the input / output connections, especially when flipping the active / bypass toggle switch. 5A must have.....but will require modification to make it function properly.Case is great for protecting the circuit board and keeping it from getting damaged over time. But needs some work to actually function as RF shielding.As other have run into the tolerances in manufacturing of the Ham It up board means that often you have to get a file and expand some of the openings to get the circuit board to fit. I returned my Ham it Up circuit board twice to Amazon, and each one I received had a slightly different alignment problem with the jacks/connectors. But that is more of a problem with the Ham it up boards and not the case. I finally gave up and filed the case to get board to fit.Now the real problem with the case comes down to the screws, assembly and the anodized coating on the case itself. The anodized coating is a great protection for corrosion etc, but its also an insulator. Which means that the coating itself will keep the screws from making good contact and means the case doesn't work well as a shield from RF noise. To have this case properly ground and shield the circuit board you will have to sand the pieces with a fine emery paper to remove the anodized coating to make sure end pieces and circuit board standoffs make good contact.. On mine I lightly sanded the locations where the end plates make contact with the case so when assembled the end plates would ground to case correctly. Then I sanded the the location inside the case where the standoffs make contact with the case, so I had a good ground connection there. The before and after noise figures were night and day. Before the modifications the case was functioning more as an antenna than a shield as it was not properly grounded and was floating above ground. This problem isn't unique to this case, myself and others had to make same modification to the blue aluminum case for the usb dongles as well. As the anodized coating caused grounding problems there as well.I ran into the same problems as others with the one screw being to long and hitting the USB connector. Put screw in a vice and ground it down with a dremel tool and it now fits.Overall its a must have when it comes to protecting your equipment. Its unfortunate that such small details end up keeping it from being perfect. Attention to manufacturing tolerances on the Hamit up boards and this case would help significantly. Also masking of contact locations prior to having parts anodized would make sure case actually functions as a RF shield and would keep users from having to fix it themselves. 3Well Built, Great Color, And Houses My Upconverter In StyleGreat enclosure for housing my NooElect Upconverter. I would have rated it 5 stars but it was missing two (2) screws to hold the upconverter in place. It may possibly have not been included as part of the package, but not a deal breaker as I had a ton of left over screws from previous projects. The case is well built and the color is anodized in the metal. Looks good and protects the upconverter well. 4I like the caseI like the case, however, the fit of the board is totally dependant on the quality of build. What I mean by that is that there were a couple of problems with the NooElec Ham It Up v1.3 - NooElec RF Upconverter... that made fit challenging. LEDs not aligned properly and switch mount crooked so it took some modification, but in the end, it worked for me. 42019 Ham It Up PLUS ReviewIt won't work with the Ham It Up Plus in year 2019, unless you drill a third hole on one of the end plates: toggle, sma are there but 2nd sma at that end needs a hole. See photo. The other end has 1 sma and 3 leds which are all thankfully pre-drilled.The Ham it up plus board is also narrower so it doesn't fit in or even touch the channels. That's not a bad thing, you just use the hex posts and nuts on the board and then the short screws on the bottom of the box to hold the posts: the board is rock solid in the box.The end pieces with the led holes and a single sma hole fits great. Take the nut and lock washer off the sma and slip the end piece on.The other end piece will need a third hole drilled. Now, the box I received had the toggle switch labeled, the IF out Sma labeled and the noise out Sma labeled-but no hole for the noise out Sma.So, basically they sent a new box with an old end piece! See photo, it shows the mismatch and missing hole.Even without that end piece on everything is rock solid, you can plug and unplug and work the toggle with zero movement of the board.Box is a very beautiful anodized blue.It came with 4 rubber feet to stick on.It also came with 2 extra end piece screws.So, great box.Missing a hole, box doesn't match the photo, end piece doesn't fit new versions, and 2 extra screws = 3 stars since I have to measure and try to drill the 3rd hole without scratching it up. 3A must have for RTL-SDR users.Really adds value to my RTL-SDR. I've been an RF listener for 40+ years, so the low bands are where I grew up. Amazing how quiet they are compared to when I was a kid. 5The Nooelec Ham up-converter works very wellI had the usual hassles setting it up but it was worth the effort. The gain settings on the RTL-SDR were critical. Once that was sorted I could listen to international shortwave with ease. I'm using SDR# for the spectrum display and demod. I've only had this a short time but if it is like the other Nooelec products I have it should be a solid, reliable device. My next project will be using this as part of a DRM shortwave receiver. 5One StarTerrible product quality. Looks great but holes cut in wrong place and wrong end parts given. 1Looks good, a PITA to get the board in it.This is an attractive looking enclosure for the HamItUp prescaler,board and serves to provide shielding from stray RF and computer noise. I found that fitting the NooElec board into this was quire a chore. The board does not fit well into the channels, and I had to do some forcing to get it in and to get the holes for the antenna jacks, LEDs and switches of the board to align with those in the enclosure. 3
