Customer Reviews

Super handy device for cooling small gear that runs hot (wireless router, external HD, etc.)I have Cisco ASA 5505 (desktop) firewall, and I happen to know these devices run incredibly hot (I owned a predecessor Pix 501 that burned up just sitting on the shelf where my primary Internet connection resides). This handy little device is probably too small for a laptop, but it is PERFECT for a smaller, desktop-sized wireless router, external hard disk---really anything that runs hot. The other nice feature is that it runs on USB power OR plugged into a wall outlet or power strip. A lot of these items only run on USB, which at first seems great, but few pieces of network gear have USB ports (the ASA actually does, but they are for future deployment). So it's nice to have both options. The day I installed it I was walking by the firewall a few hours later and it was cool as a cucumber. A well-priced investment, since a replacement for the device it's protecting would be 15-20 times more. 5Works great!I wanted something to keep my Arris cable modem cool in warmer (hot) weather, because when it gets too warm my cable modem loses the signal and WiFi goes out, so I have to reset it & let it cool down before it works again, sometimes several times a day. (Frustrating to say the least!). So far Dr. Cool is doing its job and working very well. The fan is quiet. I have it clipped over the front of the cable modem and have the modem tilted to allow air flow to the back. The real test will be when hot summer weather arrives. The one I received only has the USB connection, and I found a surge protector that has USB plugs. Some people said that their s had a plug to plug into an electrical outlet, but mine only has the USB connection. Overall, I m happy with my purchase and recommend it. 5Neat little fan - well worth the priceAfter doing a little research on the Internet, I ordered two of these fans - one for my motorola 2210-02 modem and the other for my Linksys E3000 router. When running for any length of time, both of these units' cases get hot to the touch. Anyone who ownes a Motorola modem or a Linksys router know that these two units are notoriously hot. Foolishly, I thought I needed a seperate fan for each. Well, I was wrong! When the fans arrived, I took one out of the box and studied it closely. Then I realized that if I placed the fan on the bottom and stacked the router (larger component) then the modem on top, there might be sufficient air circulation to keep both the router and modem adequately cool. The second fan remains in its box on a shelf in the closet.I had read some reviews that complained the fans are noisy and was a little apprehensive. At first that was the case, but patience paid off - after about a week the fan quieted down. The Evercool fan resolved my heat problem and now is unusually quiet. In fact, with the modem and router running I barely hear the fan.Anyone who is familiar with modems and routers realizes that heat is their worst enemy. Happily, I no longer have a heat issue with either my modem or router - and I have a backup fan if I need it.These little powerhouses work GREAT. If you have an issue with heat buildup in your ancilliary equipment, I highly recommend these little gems. 5Great product!Works like a charm! Well designed, with expandable plastic clips that grip your modem or router in any position you want. It is very quiet, and cools my Arris modem even when operating it for hours at a time. Needs to be connected to any 5 Volt current converter, or computer USB port. 5solved a problem at a reasonable pricekeeps our cable modem cooluntil this our modem just keeps getting hot and internet not staying connectedthis saves so much trouble constantly pulling the power plug and waiting a hour at a time for the modem to cool off enoughnot sure where these people listing problems been getting them but suspect some people just expecting it to work like your deep freezer or a box fan for your windowsthis does the job was designed to do and is designed to keep your modem cool not freezing cold 5it works wellThe product is easy to set up, the fan runs quiet, keeps the modem cool, does not require a lot of space, unobtrusive. There is not really much to set up and installation, just extend the clips, put the modem inside and power the unit up, either with outlet or USB. I know some reviewers have had fan issues, but the fan ran quiet for me right out of the box and is barely audible most of the time, unless the house is very quiet. The product does what it says: my modem used to get very hot, especially in the afternoon, but with Dr Cool, the top of the modem stays cool to the touch. The bottom of the modem, however, does tend to warm up a bit, so I would suggest elevating it if possible. I use a couple of wooden blocks I had lying around but anything will do, so as to let air circulate under the device. You could put the modem on top of the Dr Cool, rather than vice versa, which will allow air to flow beneath but I preferred to have the fan blowing directly on the modem since it is usually the top part that gets very hot. While the Dr Cool does vaguely resemble a giant mechanical spider from some cheesy sci-fi horror film, it surprisingly does not scream its presence. Yes, the design is noticeable but not in such a way as to be obtrusive or obnoxious. Since this thing sits on the breakfast bar near the kitchen, that is a good feature to have. Build quality is about average for Chinese products, but the thing sits on a counter so I expect it should last awhile, at this price point one year, maybe two. 4Stopped workingOriginal Review: Does the job at cooling my Linksys E4200 router (which gets fairly warm). Just not quite as quiet in operation as other 12 volt fans I have such as for my receivers and structured wiring box. Time will tell on longevity.Followup review one month later: Dr. Cool lost his cool, became very noisy and fan pretty much stopped turning. Being returned and will look for something more reliable. Too bad as the overall design seemed pretty good and initially cooled my router fairly well. Electric components from China don't historically seem to fair that well in general, unfortunately that seems to be the only choice manufacturers have often left us with in their search for lower manufacturing costs. and we seem to have become addicted to those lower prices. This consumer would be willing to pay a bit more for a more reliable product if only it were available! 2Cool, it works! So far so good, internet was constantly disconnecting for 1-2 mins randomly ever 2-3 hours. The modem was pretty hot also, comparable to a hot laptop. After clamping this onto the modem and restarting it, there has been no disconnects for the last 2 days. The modem itself is much much cooler also. 5Worked fine for one month, then I needed earplugs.Like some others who reviewed this product, my fan started making loud noises after one month. I didn't see an easy way to replace the fan, so I returned it to the vendor for a refund. Really too bad, because the design of this is very clever, but living with that loud fan is unbearable. 2I LOVE MINE.I have 2 of these and have had them for over 6 months thus far. I have had absolutely no problems with them. 1 holds my Roku box, which gets fairly warm, even when not in use. The other has an external usb drive on it. Neither is noisy and they do a good job in keeping my devices cool. So, either some of you got bad devices or you expected them to run like a household fan. They are small device coolers and are not made to make devices COLD, just to cool them down and that is all you need. I like the fact that you can put your Roku box on either side and the warm air goes thu the other side and outward. I liked mine so much, I bought another for my Son, who is using his for an external Buffalo DriveStation. He loves his too and has had no problems. If you purchase this and have problems, return it right away. You may have just purchased one from a not so good batch. I LOVE MINE.I also own the 2-sided magetized fan, which does a great job of sitting between 2 ext USB desktop drives and keeps them very cool. An alternative would be a 2-fan USB laptop cooler. It's cheaper than these other devices, but does the same thing. 5
