Very simple to set up to record player and my phone if needed!5One of the best speakers I've heard for the price!I wanted something to replace a set of Bose Companion 2 for listening to music through an Echo Dot. For what it's worth, I also have the Echo connect by Bluetooth into home theater system (which I no longer feel the need to use after this purchase). There is a lack of reviews for this product, but I was able to find some good independent reviews of the speakers online. I have not been disappointed in the least bit. The Edifier's sound great when connected to the echo - and even when running a phone or iPad through the second input. Obviously, there are better speakers out there, but you would be hard pressed to find better for this price. I liked them so much that I bought a pair of these speakers as a gift. Maybe not as convenient as Bluetooth speakers for the Echo, but the sound is phenomenal for the price. I would definitely buy them again for other devices around the home.5Good sound, but pay the extra $30 for notably better R1280T if you have enough room.Very good sound, not as great as the more expensive and larger 1280T, fair enough. Just small enough to fit our computer desk, radically better sound than the $20 Logitecs they replaced. Happy with the R980Ts. Overjoyed with our R1280Ts in another room. If you have the space, spring for the R1280T. Controls on back mean I use the computer's volume control instead of the knob on the speaker- no remote on R980T. Speakers do not go into sleep mode, so sound always works after rebooting computer without having to mess with the speaker.4Good kick for your dollar.Hi there, I am generally satisfied with these speakers. Since I am a professional musician, I was going to give it only 3 stars due to the frequency response. The lowest is 70 Hz according to specifications, and you can hear the difference with a higher-end speaker that would go down to the inaudible frequencies. Yet, I was attracted to this product because the cabinets are actually made of wood (to me, a way much better choice than any plastic or synthetic material), the size, the fact that they are a two-way system and the 24W of output. (12W per channel), and all that for only 69 bucks. Quite a deal if you don't have the $ or are not picky enough to get a higher-end desktop speaker for over 2 or 3 hundred. I noticed that in the later and bluetooth models they have added the high tone control (on top of the volume and bass) and moved the control panel to the right of the speaker, which makes it more accessible. The only thing would have appreciated at this price range is a headphone output in the front. Office work is prone to need it for privacy when the boss is around the office... or when you don't want to bother your co-workers with your sound. :-) I also own a pair of bluetooth Sony SRS-X55 desktop speakers. I have to say that the Edifiers may not attain the exact same sound quality than the Sony in all the range, however the Sony cannot respond well to full orchestra or classical guitar music full of medium frequency volume and tone. The Edifier are good all around speakers that will do the job quite well if you have good ears but can let go of some extra pickiness. They hold the tone quite well and so far I have NOT heard any distortion, even at higher volumes or full orchestra music. I especially like their line about "proudly made in China". I much rather prefer to hear that instead of getting a knock-off of a big brand name that conceals its origin. These speakers proved to me that China-made audio products are getting a lot better and can be really pleasing to the ears. Good purchase, recommended. ;)4Slightly better than Logitech up to the Z533 series or so*Note: The terminals will take up to about 14ga wire. Not that it is needed for this low power near field set up. Just an FYI. And the cable that comes with is only about 18ga.So, these things are hard to nail down there is a lot of good and bad which for 60 bucks you have to keep in mind that real studio monitors or hifi speakers cost 6 times this much for the entry level usually. Also my review comes from a stand point of using them for computer desk speakers at work vs two other pre built 2.1 systems I have had in the past.If you are considering going this route and then maybe adding a powered sub vs a logitech or similar 2.1 system let me just say that if you aren't super concerned with a flatter presentation and medium better sound clarity, skip the hassle and get the Logitech Z625 instead. It is louder by itself, THX certified and comes with a sub so at 100 bucks you will save some money gain some volume and not have the headache.BUT... if you like clean music more than volume and bass these are an ok starting out point for a pair of powered speakers. Normally I would never buy the lowest end set of monitors a company offers but I needed some new sound for my work desk and I can't really listen to music at a billion decibels anyway so I went ahead and picked these up.I would compare them out of the box to a Logitech z333 system as far as bass level, volume and presentation of sound. They aren't much louder at 12w per side than the logitechs that are only 5 or 6w per side. The difference being though is these are powering a woofer and tweeter in both cabinets vs just one smaller all purpose woofer like logitech satellites. So they are sharing the power and that kind of makes sense.HOWEVER, unlike the logitech garbage, you get the entire range of volume with these. The logitech sets claim all this power etc in ads but when it comes to cranking it up to 11 you are going to get some significant distortion out of any logitech set. These are the opposite. You can crank these to 11 and run them all day and you wont get any distortion assuming there is no problems with your signal etc. AND the sound is much cleaner and much flatter of an EQ than logitech stuff. Now that doesn't mean these things are true monitors and really a flat EQ because they aren't. You can tell they have still been front loaded a little bit to make a subtle swoop into the range but... much flatter than other multimedia speakers made for computers under 100 bucks. Right now the better set of Edifier speakers is also under 100 bucks and if I wasn't trying to spend as little as possible I would have picked up the R1280T instead that is a no brainier those things are phenomenal speakers for their price point.The other positive about these speakers is, their amps are really under powered for what the cones can actually do. Some people would view this as a bad thing or like they are cutting corners or something but no, its them making sure you can crank your volume all the way up without getting distortion and making sure their product sounds good. A lot of companies do it. With that in mind if you have a tube preamp or DAC that you can feed into these things holy moly do they explode with volume. With a cheap pre amp these things go from bout the same level volume as a logitech z333 system to something i would expect to run at 40 or 50 watts rms just for the satellites. You can get some serious sound out of these speakers with the right add ons.Thats why for most people, they can get more bang for their buck out of a pre built 2.1 system but if you are like me and you dabble in audio, maybe you have a dac or pre amp or mixer or things like that laying around that you could experiment with these they can sound really good FOR THEIR PRICE. Never forget these things are 59 dollars right now. And just plan on adding a small sub. They are ok on low end but to get them there you have to put the bass up over neutral and I don't like that. Monoprice has a 8 in 60w powered sub for only 60 bucks right now. Well worth it to add to these and make a legit entry level 2.1 system.4Get these.It's like someone took the moving blanket off my music - excellent bass, crystal clear but never harsh, plenty loud, perfectly sized and easy to hook up. I wasn't expecting much, but I fell in love. I am now EDIFIED. I bought these for my small digital recording studio after looking at a lot of alternatives. Couldn't be happier. You can bury me with these 5Perfect for my 1-br apartmentMy old speakers for my computer were Bose computer speakers I bought from best buy ten years ago! Their connection was static-y and sometimes shorted out for a second before catching the connection. I found these speakers, and they were exactly what I was looking for: looks and everything. I have them set up on either side of my laptop, which sits at the level of my solar plexus. I have caught myself looking around the room, or standing up trying to find the source of a strange sound I'm hearing, turns out it's the speakers' fantastic ability to emit background noise to the video I'm watching, if that makes sense. They have a great sound, they get nice and loud, although I am in a 25' long,11' wide, tiled room so I can't test them out at long distances throughout a large house or anything. But they are more than sufficient for me, a person who lives on her computer in her free time, listening to audiobooks, music and tv shows. I love them :)5How is anyone bear listening to music on these things?I genuinely cannot understand how anyone who listens to music is giving these speakers anything beyond a single star. Here are my problems:1) You can fiddle with the bass all you want, but that won't change the fact that the mid-range frequencies - which carry sounds like human vocals, guitar, and most piano and string instruments - are barely audible. And the frequencies that do come through are all jarbled together and impossible to distinguish. I get more clarity from an old $15 iPod dock, which is pretty pathetic.2) The controls on the speaker are conveniently located in the back of the speaker. That means you have to physically pick up the speaker and turn it around (hard to do with multiple cables attached to it) to adjust the settings.3) The speakers arrived with a horrific smell that filled my entire apartment in minutes.4) The RCA cable included with my speakers makes a static sound when plugged into devices unless I twist it just right. AKA, the cable they sent me is actively defective.I'm a professional musician, and have been buying computer speakers mainly for music for 20 years. It is one of the only products that, somehow, seem to get worse over time. These speakers are a stunningly disappointing example of that phenomenon.1Great value & sound for the money for Computer speakers.Quality of material and built is a lot better than usual small plastic computer speakers, and so is their sound quality. The are a little bigger than I expected though (using them on my desktop on the sides of my monitor), so I Included a picture of them as the seat alongside my 23"monitor. Very easy and intuitive installation, but also there is a wiring diagram on the accompanying booklet. The 5 stars on sound quality are given considering the intended use as monitor speakers for home office recording of classes and presentation videos. Overall great value for the money for intended purpose.5Workable amplified speakers but may require external volume control for lower listening levels.These is probably the only set of 'self powered' amplified bookshelf speakers I have tried in a long time that was not flaky on the 'off' channel from the initial use. Both speakers have worked so far without dropping the passive side (the one without the built-in amplifier) yet. I hope they never become flaky that way.The sound is good and the reproduction close. Highs are fairly crisp, bass seems tight enough, and midrange seems reasonably clean. The amplification seems good enough, and they can be loud if you want. It's not a high-end set of precision monitors, but the sound is good.It has one of those ridiculously popular knobs that lets you adjust the bass separately. On almost everything else I have tried these knobs just make the bass sound muddy as you turn them up; such devices usually range from fairly clean to full mudslide. This one seems to be a real bass control, allowing you to trim or enhance bass while still keeping it reasonably clear, though it has relatively limited effect compared to those mudslide knobs. It is one of the few that I find comfortable set about to the middle (there is a convenient detent in the travel at that point).Unlike some amplified speakers I have tried, they can not be used with the amplifier off (the onboard amplifier is not bypassed with the power switch 'off'). While not surprising (particularly in this price range), this is a minor limitation.They are very touchy about ground balance. Be sure they are plugged into the same outlet as whatever is connected as their source, else you can get a lot of AC line hum. I have seen this often in amplified speakers, but these seem more touchy about it than many I have tried. Maybe the lack of an explicit ground connection? Maybe my home's older wiring?Unhappily, the lower maybe 25% of the volume knob is useless. Anything below about 25% and they simply go silent no matter the input level. This means I need to use a really low signal amplitude to get them to be not silent but just quiet. Since they pick up noise from the PC, that's not easy (reducing the volume on the PC to below 10% lets the speakers amplify as much noise as signal). Using an external volume control (inline variable resistor, basically, on each channel) allows me to drive them at 50%+ from the PC side and set the onboard volume to 30% (so they don't just cut out completely) and still get a nice volume range (quiet background music while working through loud enough to pick out details while playing games on the PC) without picking up and amplifying a lot of processing noises from the PC. Outside of the lower range, the volume control seems fairly good.Overall, I can forgive the flaws except the lower end of the volume control being useless. This restriction required me to put an inline volume control (so I could drive hard enough from the PC end to avoid audibly coupling processing noise, but still have quiet enough output that it would work for background music while working). They lose a star for this.4
