Customer Reviews

Great feel. Not permanent, it comes with two. Essential accessory!Love the prodot! Much better feel on shutter button. Yes, it will probably come off eventually. It comes with two. Also, it is hard to get it centered exactly on your shutter button. But when I took it off it seemed much harder to depress shutter - will never go back to naked shutter!4Not compatible with Sony A7 bodiesAlthough I m sure this works excellent, it s not a good match for the Sony A7 bodies. These have a slightly larger diameter than the shutter button on the camera so when you press half way to auto focus the extra space that hangs over the button will stick to the shutter button housing and therefore the shutter button gets stuck pressed down halfway.1great for keeping your finger steady I saw these in one of my many photography magazines and wanted to give them a try. I purchased the black color, you get 2 in the pack. They are easy to apply, just make sure you line it up properly before really pushing them to stick. I find that they help keep your finger on the shutter button. my cameras button was very smooth and my finger did move around a bit. This will help you keep your finger more secure from slipping which can make you lose your focus lock. They do make the button seem a little higher so it will take a little bit to get used to. Its cushiony soft and I put them on all my cameras even my Point-&-shoot. I took off a star because they are a little expensive for what they are. That's just my feeling. 4The ProDot works great - except when it falls offFollowup 2: CustomSLR came through with replacements, so I will re-install the buttons & see how the adhesive works once again..... Here's hoping, as I like the feel of the buttonsFollowup: CustomSLR promised to send replacements for the two sets of ProDots that fell off - but they were never sent. So not only doesn't the adhesive work, but their customer service is useless. The ProDot works great - except when it falls off!! In part, probably, due to the advertised "removable non-permanent adhesive" used.Purchased in August and didn't last six months! NOT a happy camper. The dot mating surface does not match the curve of the shutter button, so the adhesive only contacts about 3/4 of the surface. Not too bad except that the surfaces not making contact are at the edge and collect junk, catch on things and eventually fall off. Cold weather also makes it more apt to fall off.If I knew where the dots fell off, I would be sending it back for a replacement. But, alas, they are on the ground somewhere.1I wish they were solid rubber throughout, but it works great!I give this 5 stars simply for raising the button above the body a bit and making the shutter presses a bit tactile.Well, whatever one needs to say to justify spending this much on a little rubber sticker. But honestly, this does work. There's no threading in a DSLR shutter button or the option to remove and replace it with a taller substitute--not like a rangefinder. So that's what this does in a simpler item, it's just a rubber sticker, really, but it adds some height to the shutter button and that makes it a little easier to push the button in without really squeezing the camera.I actually with it was solid rubber, with maybe some grooves in the top. I wish it were a little taller, too. But still a great little item.5Work greatI first saw these on another site and thought it was a gimmick and didn't give it a second thought. Then a couple of months later I ran across them again, this time being reviewed on a photography site. The reviewer had the same initial reaction to them that I did, that they were a waste. However, he tried them out and was immediately impressed with them.I decided to give them a try, especially since I frequently take pictures outside in the freezing cold.Even though they're easy to install it does take a little bit of care to make sure that they're centered on the shutter button. I messed up the first one ever so slightly and since I'm a perfectionist, I had to take it off and use the other one, which I was able to center perfectly.I instantly loved the feel of this on the shutter of my 5DMII. It adds a nice tactile feel to the shutter and makes the half press that much easier. Having used them in the cold quite a bit, I can say they're a great addition and make using the camera in sub freezing temperatures a lot easier. As far as durability, I can say that I haven't had a single issue with it coming off and its been on my camera for about 12 months now.5Works as intended. Durability questionable.I've been looking for something like the Custom SLR ProDot Shutter Button Upgrade for literally years now, and now it finally exists. So here are my thoughts:Is it pricey? Yes. But for the price I paid ($7.95) for two buttons designed for photography, it's a fair trade. If the price stayed the same or went lower, I wouldn't mind buying it again. Is it hard to install? No, not exactly, but I believe you would want to stick it on the shutter button correctly the first time because I think it'll last longer that way.Does it work? Yes. Although it does feel slightly odd at first, taking photos were much more easier than before. Is it durable? Not sure. I will update in the future if the button lasts long in everyday use. But I do hope it'll last long. What color should I get? It's on you. I got black because I plan on doing street photography overseas for a month and getting the red one would mean my camera would stand out, which I don't want. Red is a good color though; It looks somewhat like a shutter button from a Leica or if you hand someone your camera all you have to do is say "push that big red button to take the picture" for example. The cameras I installed the Custom SLR ProDot Shutter Button Upgrade onto is my Nikon 1 V1 and Nikon 1 J1. They both fit perfectly and I'm highly satisfied with the upgrade.Would I recommend it? It depends on you. If you're not comfortable with your shutter button, then I would recommend getting it. But it's not an absolute necessity for photography.5Not for me.I read an online article recommending using this product, as being a significant upgrade for cheap. At under $8 on Amazon Prime, I immediately ordered this for my Canon Rebel T3i, The product is packaged nicely, with two units in an easy to open plastic bag. I was concerned about mounting the pad to my shutter correctly. Before I peeled back the sticker, I practiced locating the pad over my shutter button a few times. After feeling confident about it, I put it on for real. While I was able to center it well, I noticed that the fit wasn't perfect, due to the convex shape of the shutter button, and the flat design of the pad. I tried to hold the pad over the shutter so the pressure sensitive adhesive would keep the convex shape. It worked OK, but not perfect. The pad sits atop about 80% of the shutter button, with about a 20% brim over the convex edge of the shutter. If I don't press the shutter down perfectly, the pressure sensitive adhesive of the pad gums up against the body of the camera, then slowly pops back. I am not happy about this.As far as being an upgrade to the factory shutter feel, the jury is still out. I can tell a difference in feel, but the T3i button isn't too bad to start with. I'll leave it on for now, and live with it, but if I knew what I know now, I would have skipped this product.2I like the feel.Having the Pro Dot on my 5D3 feels good. I feel it gives me more control when taking shots. The only issue is the tape is will last maybe a yr (if that). I suppose it depends on the conditions you are working in. ie if you are in highly humid areas, the dot may fall off.Aside from that I like it a lot. I've purchased a number of these since they are so inexpensive to replace.4Easy installation! Great for those with loss of feeling in their fingertips! I just stuck one on my Canon 6D and I like it! I have no problem finding the shutter button now. (I have sensory loss in my fingertips). It's the exact size needed for the shutter button and it's just a matter of peeling the back off and sticking it in place. I used an alcohol wipe to clean off the button. And, for the installation, I used a pair of hemostats and Optivisors. I set it on the button gently and then nudged it a little to get it centered before pressing it down harder. I discovered that the Canon shutter button is free rotating in the process. Anyway... I recommend them! 5Surprisingly UsefulI am using 4 of these. I have one on my Nikon D750, one on my Canon 1200D and they really work great, giving extra grip and making it easier to instinctively feel the button without fumbling to get the best positioning over the button. However the most useful things I found these ProDots on are a Point & Shoot Canon compact (sx270hs) and my old film 35mm Yashica Fx-D. On the Canon it makes it much easier to half depress the shutter button to autofocus, making it much less likely to accidentally take a photo instead of autofucsing. On the Yashica, it really helps as well, because the shutter button sits in the middle of a shutter speed dial and is very low profile. The extra height added to makes it much more responsive when you are trying to take a shot. I wanted to add one to my Panasonic Mirrorless GF7, however the shutter button on it is smaller then standard so it would overlap with power switch ring, so just be aware that it will not work will all sizes of shutter buttons.5Very versitile not just camerasI use on my camera for sure, very nice feel and adhesionI use on my K-Pin Mini vape, helps it not roll, and makes finding button super easy.I use on my laptop to help distinguish both e backspace button and the numeric keysI have a few more places that have found a home for these. Use your immagination!5
