Customer Reviews

Nice Light, Conscientious Merchant.i purchased my reading light a little over 10 months ago primarily because it seemed among the best choices, if not the best choice, for mounting on the backside of a wooden headboard -- minimal space required between wall and headboard as well as having the on/off switch on the LED end of the arm.The light works great for reading and seeing the keyboard on a laptop PC in an otherwise dark room -- plenty of light for the keyboard, but not so much light that it interferes with seeing the screen. It's also works well to just point the light in the direction of a side wall in order to have some dim light available while watching TV, etc. in order to find stuff like remote controls on the nightstand or wherever else I might misplace them. The mounting bracket, arm, and light hood all seem well made and put together well. The arm has always stayed where positioned and I do adjust it fairly often. I even dropped a mattress on it once (or twice) and nothing pulled apart. But, the light did stop working after about 10 months of use. I didn't/couldn't determine if the failure was due to the transformer, or switch, or the LED; but, it wasn't due to the mattress drop as that was months earlier. I did contact the seller via Amazon and was quite pleased to have a UPS truck deliver a replacement light about 3 days later without any charge to me.I always have trouble picking the number of stars for these review things. I started out with 5 stars for functionality, exterior ruggedness, and appearance. Then subtracted a star because there does seem to be some weakness in one or more of the electrical components -- perhaps just an earlier batch of the lights, don't know. Then added a star back in due to the seller's excellent customer service honoring the warranty without any hassles. So, I think 5 stars is about right.5not bright enuf reading - but 10w replacement awesomemy original review was only 3 stars because..".nice design, solid on twisting, but as middle aged person with good eyes, (i dont even need glasses) still not bright enuf for reading on a regular basis i'm gonna try a 5 watt"although my opinion on the light hasn't changed, i've upped the stars because of incredibly great customer service ! they replaced it with a 10 watt, piano style, that i never would have thought of trying, but great for reading, dimming options really nice, & such soft touch operation makes easy to get on/off. some reviews complained it hummed...read the directions...some too near electronics may cause noise. using mine 2 weeks now, nightly, no humming (except mayb the cat)5Won t last long, get the warrantyOrdered 2 from Amazon in April 2017. One quit working after 1 year, now the other has quit. Very disappointed because I really liked the design and the convenience of the on off switch at the light head and not the base. There is not a way to change the bulb so it goes into the trash and will have to purchase a new different light for the bedside. If you buy, I recommend getting the 3 year warranty. Oh, and I purchased these for $35, as of Dec 2018, they are $23... don t overpay like I did!2After 1 year, the bulb burned-out. But, I found a replacement bulb for it!!I liked everything about this lamp... till a year later the bulb started to get weaker and weaker. Within 10 days it became a dull glow. It uses a a soldered-on wafer board, which at first I thought I couldn't replace. But, a quick search on Ebay and I found it: Cree XB-D 3w LED. $4.95 (includes shipping from China). You'll want the Soft-White (3000k) version, size is 20mm.Unfortunately, you'll need a small soldering iron, flux, and some dexterity to replace it (not to mention a 3-week wait for the slow boat from China!). But, if you're so inclined, the wafer-light is held in place via two tiny wires. Just unplug the lamp, unscrew the lamp's head assembly (just twist it off) and there's the bulb. Un-solder it each tiny wire (accessible from the bulb's face), remove the old bulb, insert the new bulb, put flux on the wires, bend the wires in place, apply heat. In all, a 10 minute job. Otherwise, you'll have to toss the lamp and buy a new one.BTW, when selecting a flexible lamp for reading in bed, I suggest you give some thought where you intend to mount the lamp (headboard or wall?) because that will determine how accessible the lamp's On/Off switch will be when lying in bed. Often, one will likely turn-On the lamp just before climbing into bed, so that's not the challenge. Once in bed, however, turning it Off can be surprisingly frustrating (depending on where the switch is located). Some lamps (like this one) have the button on the head which makes it simple to access (I really like this design). If you mount the lamp to the side or rear of the headboard, those lamp designs will force you to twist around to locate the cord and feel around for the dang switch... it's just not a pleasant way to call it day! Lastly, some designs mount a toggle on the base that may seem like an easily accessible spot, but, that'll totally depend on where you mounted it relative to your reach. Just something to consider. :)3Perfect bed board reading lightWhen attached behind the sleigh bed headboard it gives very good bright reading light. I bought two units. Very convenient on/off switch on light bulb shield. A nice white light it shines. The adjustable goose neck is firm but still easy to move or adjust. It come with screws and plastic wall anchors. The power cord is eight feet long. All metal construction. The entire light fixture including plug transformer only draws 3 watts. The spread of the light beam is wide enough to read a newspaper. Very pleased with purchase. Made in China.5Very poor quality. Initially bought two and one would not ...Very poor quality. Initially bought two and one would not work at all so we returned it and were promptly given credit. I then bought a third one and that lasted about two weeks when the light began to work only very weakly. So we plan to return it and order a fourth light. We'll see how long that one lasts if it works at all out of the box. These lights look good and when they work they meet our expectations but so far we will have had to buy four lights to get two that worked. That's not a very good ratio.Updated Jan 22 2018. Received second replacement light and it works fine. Still it took four lights to get two operable ones. When they work they seem to work well. Seller was very helpful and concerned about ensuring that we got a replacement. They will have to work with their supplier to learn why there is such a high failure rate.1Really good customer service, and a very nice lampI bought this lamp in January, and then in March it failed. I had originally rated the lamp at just two stars because of the failure, but once I reported the failure to the seller, they immediately agreed to send a replacement with no questions asked. A person could not ask for better customer service.Furthermore, they told me that they were going to upgrade the Cree LED to one which should be more reliable. That sounds like a good step in the right direction.I really like the lamp. It's very well made (other than the LED itself), and has a nice, sturdy method of attachment. The ones that clip on tend to slip, but this one screws on, so if you don't mind a few screw holes in whatever you attach it to, it should never fall off. The flexible gooseneck is long enough to be useful, and it stays at the adjustment that you deire. The light itself is ideal for reading, and has a reasonably small footprint so as not to disturb your spouse too much when it's on. All in all, I highly recommend the lamp as well as the seller.5Great lights at a great priceLove these lights. I like to read in bed, but traditional lights keep my wife awake. These LEDs remain cool and focus a narrow but bright beam of light on the page, right where you need it and no where you don't. Also attractive, flexible to adjust and easy to install. My only complaint--a minor one at that--is these lights do not come with screws and sheet rock anchors but that stuff is readily available from any hardware store. We installed two over our bed right above the headboard, so you can't even see the electric cord that's hidden by the head board. From my research, you cannot beat the price. Some competing models are only 1 watt, not enough in my opinion. These are 3 watts, just right for reading.5Sturdy, mounts perfect to back of headboardGooseneck is a bit stiff, but I suppose that means it s sturdy. Works great, love the switch on the lamp head. Took me a bit to attach to our head board as it has a lip at the top in the back. I just cut a small shim to pad out and the screwed on the lamp. This is a good solution, our Swedish brand version snapped off, this one will definitely last.4Excellent fixture!Thank you to all the folks that answered my question about whether the base of the lamp swivels. As most have said, the question is not relevant as the fixture allows the lamp head to orient to whatever position, regardless of the placement of the bracket. For our installs, we mounted the fixture to the back of our headboards to conceal the mounting and wiring and still be within arms reach to make adjustments. Our headboard is relatively short, about 6" above the mattress, so the lamp head is "in your face". I may relocate to a different spot depending on our continuing experiences with the fixture.Overall, this is an excellent fixture. Very well made, in my opinion, with substantial construction all around. The gooseneck is especially impressive and seems able to sustain heavy use without any damage or excess wear and tear (I move the lamp head all the time) in the month or so we have been using. The illumination is excellent, the 3000K color works well (we have been switching to 3000K in our lamps when we go to LED and we very much appreciate the whiter light and color rendering). The switch is convenient and unobtrusive. The power supply is very well thought out and invisible in our installation. The fixture could be improved for bedside use by having a longer gooseneck but this suggestion is based on our install. More length would add to the flexibility of the gooseneck in orienting the lamp head to just the right spot. This is the reason for the 4 star rating and, of course, a completely subjective basis. The gooseneck length is probably more appropriate when the fixture is used to illuminate wall decor. The seller has been great, following up with us to assure all is well. During a period when the customer service experience is undergoing some erosion, having a concerned seller really stands out. Thank you.At the end of the day, we are very pleased with the purchase, would order more, and be better equipped when deciding the mounting locations!4
