Built like a tankYes, it is heavy. And perhaps the locking/hinges are not as fancy/robust as the more famous alternative. But it sure feels well built and can take the hits.5This case seems like it would be good for storage in that it ...Let me start by saying that I have grown quite accustomed to my Pelican cases and the quality that comes along with the Pelican name. I have been using them for close to a decade and still have some of my original cases from then still in working condition. This case seems like it would be good for storage in that it doesn't seem like it is going to survive the same harsh treatment that a pelican could easily survive, there are some videos on youtube clearly displaying this. The pre-cut squares in the foam are gigantic when compared to the pre-cut squares in a Pelican (or most other brands) which makes it harder to get a perfect fit for whatever you plan on putting in the case. This case does seem like it will work for storing my fiber optic tools which will not see too many harsh conditions but only feel it is worth 2 stars due to the flimsy feel of the case itself and the size of the pre-cut foam.2Five StarsNice case.5Perfect fit at a great price.Purchased this case to utilize as a hard case for my recently purchased laptop. Great molding and case seems to be extremely durable. Would not be afraid to leave my computer in this case in the back of a pickup truck bed. Latches are not as tight as brands such as Pelican but confident that this case can take a decent fall from a height at which I would be keeping my laptop. So far so good and great price for this case.5Phenomenal case, extremely flexible to suit your needs. This is a phenomenal case. It holds all of my tools for data cabling with Cat6 and coax. The foam is more rigid than other cases I have owned, which is really nice. It holds all of the tools much more snugly. The cubed foam has two layers of equal thickness with a thin solid layer on the bottom. It makes it very easy to have cut outs of different depth. I plan to buy a second one for my fiber optic cabling tools. I also appreciate that it's available in different colors, my co-workers have commented that they want to buy them for their tools. They will be choosing a color different from mine so we can tell them apart.5Harbor Freight quality, but too expensiveI have a lot of gear cases. Several Pelican Cases, from small to very large, some Nanuk, and some military surplus clamshells. Recently Harbor Freight has got into this game with their Apache stuff, and while I don't have any of my own, they're popular enough that I've had my hands on them.My assessment is that this "Condition 1" case is basically a Harbor Freight case, but with some branding to make it look like it competes with the nicer cases. IMHO, it does not. This case costs about as much as a Nanuk, but is quite inferior. A Pelican of similar size will cost you more, granted, but it's *way* better. The first thing I do when testing a case like this is remove all the foam, close it up and spray it from all angles with the garden hose. Then I dry the outside thoroughly and open it up. If there's water inside, it fails. Given the lid fitment I observed when unpacking it, that was definitely on my mind when I went straight to the hose test. Sure enough, water made its way inside. As you can see from the picture, the front of the case around the latches puts quite a bit of pressure on the seal, but the two sides have a much larger gap due to the relative flexibility of the cheap plastic that the case is made from. As a result of less pressure on the seal, water makes it in.Also in the realm of overall rigidity, the plastic is so flexible that it's pretty easy to deflect the entire lid while closing it such that it doesn't line up at all. Nanuk cases are similarly less rigid than a Pelican, but it feels intentional. This case feels like it really wants to be as stiff as a Pelican, but just can't possibly pull it off.The latches are a two-stage design, somewhat similar to the newer Pelican latches, although they are quite inferior. They don't engage on the bottom catch nearly enough and as such they're almost too easy to open up to the point of fearing they might come loose on their own if bounced around or caught on some clothes. Pelican latches are notoriously rough (i.e. "Knuckle Busters"), but when they're closed they're definitely not coming open accidentally. With this case, I can imagine carrying it like a briefcase, catching the latches on something, and popping it open to dump the contents out on the ground. Nanuk cases have two-stage latches with a secondary release which is both really easy on the hands and also extremely secure. These are just a liability.Other than that, the foam inside seems okay, but not nearly as dense and high-quality as what you get inside a Pelican. The whole case is clearly made from cheap plastic with casting marks and residue all over it. All things I would expect from a $30 Harbor Freight case made in China, but not a $120 case claiming to be for harsh conditions and proudly made in the USA.If you're looking for something in this price range, look at Nanuk. If you're looking to sacrifice quality for cost, go with something that costs less than this.2Decent case but certainly no PelicanI too am a long time Pelican owner and was looking for something cheaper. This is a decent case but found that the rubber gasket WILL NOT STAY in it's groove on either of the cases that I received. It appears to be reasonably well built and sealed but I immediately pinched and broke the flimsy gasket on one case. It will serve fine for my purpose of holding some non-essential test equipment but if you 100% need 100% water/dust proof... This case probably ain't it. I also see that since I ordered my cases, the price has gone up to the point that it is not much better value than Pelican.3Fantastic Case to Protect Your ThingsWe all have things we can justify putting into a hard case to protect from bumps on the road. The cases feel nice and solid. I am 175 lbs and can stand on it with minimal deflection. The hinges run the most of the way across the back and give it strength where it moves and needs it the most. The catches have an interesting spring-assisted pivot where they have to bend to engage the case. It feels like it could hold up to some real use.The foam has four foam layers. There is a foam layer at the bottom, two 1 "Pick-N-Pluck" layers, and a convoluted foam layer that comes glued into the top. Having two customizable layers of foam is a nice change from the foam that runs from top to bottom. This allows you to vary the depth and amount of protection you can give your precious cargo. You should note that because of the contour of the case at the top and bottom the foam does have an orientation. I messed this part up but it did not seem to make much of a difference once I pressed it back in.The bright yellow is my favorite but it comes in other colors. To shape the voids you carefully tear to remove the 1 x foam columns to the shape you desire. The edges are thin and fragile so I advise not going too close to the sides.I will warn anyone that customizing the foam in any hard case can lead to an OCD journey like no other and it would be very wise to spend 30 min or so on Youtube getting advice on how to do this.As an experiment, I filled a bathtub and tossed a 50 lb weight on one for about 10 min. There were bubbles coming out the pressure valve and a little around the gasket edge, presumably because I was pressing on it with the weight. When I took it out and opened it there was no water inside. Because of the buoyancy, these cases will be difficult to sink underwater anyway so this passes for me in the IP rating.I think these cases are really durable and can stand up to some real abuse.5AwesomeNo difference between quality of this and Pelican that I can see except the price.5Excellent productJust perfect quality and right price5
