Customer Reviews

Really, really, see the moon.Good God Man! It was torture looking at the moon with my Celestron telescope! It was like looking directly into a bright flashlight with one eye. This filter changed all that. It actually dispersed the bright light intensity into a darker, easy to view scene. it also kept, if not improved, the definition of the moons surface by removing glare. It is not so dark as to obscure details, as a matter of fact, the view is pretty much as good as it gets with my equipment. Quit going blind on one eye looking at the moon. For the price of a candy bar, you can't go wrong.5View the moon without hurting your eyesThis worked great for viewing the moon. It really helped reduce the amount of light so you don't feel so blinded while viewing the moon. With that, you do lose a little of the clarity. But that's to be expected. Overall, great product. If you want to view the moon without hurting your eyes, this is a great item.4A good value for four good filtersThis set comes with #12, #21 and #80A color filters for planetary observation along with a 50% transmission neutral density filter. Despite what some others have said, it is rather easy to tell them apart under monochromatic red light. The #80A blue's gel looks quite dark, even darker than the neutral-density filter, and they all have white-on-black lettering around the outer rim to identify them. The sky wasn't cooperating very well tonight as clouds kept scooting over my observations of Saturn and Mars, but the filters all do what they say they're doing according to the sheet Celestron helpfully includes in the box, which really helps a noob astronomer like me figure out what filter to use to look at which planet. All four filters are clear and seem to be free of defects, and don't affect the view seen other than how they are supposed to (that is, filtering out certain bands of light). The 50% transmission neutral-density seems like it would be a little too much light let through for lunar observation, though with my small 60mm aperture I don't see this as being a big issue. I haven't had much of a problem with glare while looking at the moon in the past. I will probably be submitting an update in a about a week or so when I can do some lunar observation, though. All in all, I'm satisfied with this purchase and I think it's a good value.4Par for the courseFor the price of these pieces I think they work as expected. I've had other filters that were about the same price and the image quality is similar. The image shown on site is incorrect however, you'll get a neutral density filter and red/yellow/blue.I actually use the neutral filter the most, it works great for Jupiter because Jupiter is so bright right now that you need to tone down the light a bit to enjoy it completely. The neutral filter is a must have for planetary viewing if you don't already have one.3This is not anLRGB set, it complements an LRGB ... This is not anLRGB set, it complements an LRGB set with additional color filters. I returned and ordered a true LRGB set. 1It's really a LRGB set as advertised I received Celestron part 95517, which is their LRGB filter set, which I'm using with the Celestron Skyris 236M camera. I made sure it was "Sold by Amazon" to get the real part. 5Terrible product, made quite poorly!Wow, can t believe Celestron would make such a poor quality product. Plastic plastic plastic. Not even worth having it in your setup.1Arrived dirty and scratchedGarbage. This plastic filter arrived dirty, with an oily residue. I cleaned it with some isopropyl alcohol, a blower brush and lens cloth. Then i looked again, there were many scratches through the coating.1Useful for certain apllThis filter isn't going to change your life, but if you have a super bright full moon or super powerful telescope, it can definitely help for some casual moon watching. I could see many more moon craters with this. I'm glad I bought it and had it for the recent supermoon event. It made viewing a bit easier, but for photography it wasn't really required as it is a neutral density attenuation of the light and that's exactly what your camera will do when it changes exposure time to a shorter exposure. Let me sum it up this way, I'm glad I have it and if I lost it, i would probably buy it again.4This filter just works !!!!Exactly what I needed to prevent myself going blind with moon brightness. It makes viewing much more pleasing to the eye. Like wearing sunglasses at night. It screws onto the bottom of your lens. I prefer to place it on my star diagonal.5My filter arrived unusable due to poor manufacturingUnfortunately this filter is unusable. The filter housing is plastic (which can be just fine for filters) however the filter threads did not form cleanly in the injection molding/manufacturing process. It won t screw into an eyepiece at all.1Be prepared to clean before useAs other reviewers have stated, this filter is grubby straight out of the box. Be prepared to clean it before use.3
