Barby Microscope The microscope is simple enough, but perhaps a bit too simple for some. It has a very effective camera, but better to download software from the web, than use the useless CD it comes with. Images are good enough, but not going to give vivid color and detail. A female colleague of mine calls it the "Barby" microscope, because it is plastic and looks to be a child's toy. However, again it does have an efficient and working camera that goes well with the system. If you want a simple microscope with a camera, and you want it cheap; this is your device. 4Great price and arrived on time Our company adopted a family for Christmas and this was on one of the children's wish list. Great price and arrived on time. 5Experienced users only This is a good microscope, for those who already have been exposed to a microscope, but, if this is the first time using a microscope it is too intricate. It did not include good details on how to use it "out of the box" and if it is a gift, the recipient will have to wait for the long process of putting it together. 4Spend a little more for a better instrument. I bought this microscope to share the joys of science with our granddaughters. It is workable, but just barely. The eyepiece is tricky to see through and worse yet, the camera was DOA. I tried it on three different computers and was not able to get the image on screen. This was very discouraging for the little girls.I contacted customer support and was assured they would make it right. It has been 2 months and still nothing. 2ok ok 5No Problems Here! Great Purchase for the Price I read some of the reviews AFTER I purchased this microscope. I'm glad I did not read it before. I am very happy with this product. After the initial setup I tried to use the camera without screwing it in to the eyepiece tube. There was no image, and I was concerned the camera was damaged. Also the penlight kept turning off by itself. I called Celestron's TS hotline. The rep walked me through the cam installation, and after providing a receipt via email, Celestron promptly shipped a new penlight.Once I got the cam up and running I took a human sperm sample. Don't ask! I had to apply stain in order to see them, but they were swimming around clear as a bell. The zoom lens works very well. I switched the image to my HDTV via HDMI, and the image was better on the TV. It is not the strongest magnification you can get, so realize that certain samples are out of the question. If you want to see red blood cells you can, but not as clear as you would at 2500X-3000X. If that's what you want to study, don't buy this one.It is made of plastic, but it is durable plastic, not cheap plastic. It is lightweight and easily stored. I will get a lot of use out this. If I can update this post with images I will attempt to provide some for other interested customers. Finally, I feel I should note that I used Google Picasa instead of the software included. The software included worked just as well, but sent the PUP scanner on my antivirus crazy, forcing me to disable my A/V in order to install. Too risky for me, so I used Picasa instead.This product comes with a warranty. If you have any problems with your order, call Celestron, don't send it back. In my case, I was satisfied with the outcome of my TS interaction. 5Celestron microscope I am satisfied with the scope for the price. The optics are good. I use a desk lamp to light the scope with the attached mirror. Camera does not capture true color. I set it top of the focal lens versus removing the top lens. This is a good deal for the price. Windows XP will recognize the camera for single photo shots. Pi casa 3 from Google has a video capture in the software, works well with camera.Software with scope does not work well. 5Doesn't work!! We already have one, so we know how it is supposed to work. The lights don't even turn on. It sat on my closet shelf for a month (it was a Birthday present). Finally took it down and gave it to my daughter only to find out that it was already broken. Tried to return it, but the return period had expired. I should know better than to buy electronics through Amazon. Money wasted!! 1Dont buy this is a toy . dont buy if you want real microscope .bottom light sometimes work as you can see in the picture.magnification ridiculous. just save your money. 1Great S My wife and I wanted to get something so that we could show our kids a world of unseen things to the eye.We bought this microscope for the kids because we could use the camera and display it on the computer for them. Works really nice. I have no complaints at all with this product. Easy to use and we have had many hours of discovery with it. It is nice to be able to show the kids and see the expressions on their face when they see things for the first time. 5
