Expected moreBag felt very small and flimsy, which is funny because I bought carhart backpack so it wouldn t be just that . Also the main pocket doesn t open all the way to the bottom , Overall I just expected more quality for the price but I feel like I just ended up paying for the little tag that said carhart1What I like most about this backpack is how open minded it ...What I like most about this backpack is how open minded it is. I really appreciate how it doesn t judge me when I go on about politics or why I think Gelato is the most underrated contender in the dessert world.5Great bag for my needs. Read reviews before buying, it may not be your cup of tea2 year update:Still Loving the bag. It's become the designated tech bag for the laptop, accessories, tablet and Kindle. It lives in my vehicle for when I've got downtime.Original revier:After reading the reviews I decided to pick this bag up instead of the smaller version, glad I did! Bag looks good, materials look and feel good, stitching looks rugged and overall it's a great little bag.I was replacing my mil-tech brand assault pack, which looks like any basic military assault pack, but I wanted something a bit smaller. I bought this bag for running to work with my laptop and various gear, which it's well suited for. I easily fit my Dell XPS 13 in the laptop sleeve, and I bet it'll fit a standard 15 inch laptop, even if it's a bit tight. Besides that I keep a smart phone, USB cords, laptop power supply, large logitech mouse, beats bluetooth head phones, a med kit and other junk. I could fit a change of cloths or a jacket as well if need be.I wouldn't take this on a trip, unless I had a second backpack or duffel. My assault pack was great for that use being as expansive as it was, but I didn't want a bag that big for back and forth to work or the coffee shop. I also don't suggest this as a day hike pack. I use my Osprey day pack for hiking, it's far better suited for climbing than this bag. Walking around town may be fine, but I can already tell you that the bag will make my back hurt on a real hike (like a day hike up Mt. Monadnock or something).Things I like:The bag looks niceConstruction quality looks appropriateGenerally minimalist designCurved shoulder straps are comfortableRubber bottom is a nice optionThe bag stands on it's own, much better than flopping overConstructive Criticism:I'll agree with one of the reviews I read, two zipper pulls on the front pockets would be much better. You need to be conscious of what you're doing when opening the top small pocket, otherwise stuff will fall out. Not a deal breaker, but for future design considerations.Cell phone pocket could be a little bigger, my Galaxy S5 with spigen case is a tight squeeze.Side pockets fit a standard 100ml Nalgene. Again, it's a tight fit.Carry handle could be longer, it's a little hard to grab with my big mits.Bottom Line:Great bag for my intended purpose. If you want a bag to fly, take on road trips or hike a trail, this is not your best bet. If you need a coffee shop bag for your smaller laptop, plus a handful of accessories, then this thing is great.5Insanely durable, stylishBought this bag to use for my work laptop and documents. The bag just feels study taking it out of the box. The water resistant fabric almost feels like denim. Sturdy padding on the bottom and back ensure that the contents are safe and secure. The padded laptop pouch fits my 15 inch notebook perfectly. It also has a second pouch that holds my iPad. Highly recommended. This bag should last me a very long time.Edit: about two months after having the bag, the section with the laptop pouch started to unravel. I contacted Carhartt customer service directly. They provided a free replacement once I sent pictures of the damage. Excellent customer service and they have my business going forward.5Great quality materials but some serious design issuesI bought this backpack for my work laptop. I do a 45 minute commute by train. Everyone has a backpack, and they all look alike. I bought the Carhartt backpack because it looked a bit different from all of the others I see. Exterior is certainly great, with high quality materials and stitching. However I have two problems with the backpack:1) There are no interior zippered compartments.2) There is only one zipper on the two smaller compartments. This means that the zipper starts pretty much at the bottom, so unzipping tends to cause things to fall out of the side. My previous backpack had two zippers, which met at the top. This was a more secure design, which the Carhartt backpack is lacking.3The answer to a NON-TACTICAL EDC backpack.Solid bag, bomb proof for sure as you would expect from carhartt. About the same size as a school backpack. Same material as the jackets unless I'm mistaken, might be tighter weave. The bottom rubber material is nice and clean. More comfortable than expected. This is not a hiking bag. It's more of an edc man bag (but works great as a short day pack), you don't need all the straps, so don't be discouraged. This is BY FAR way better quality than any $50 tactical bag. If you've had one, you know how they kinda just fall apart..I've been looking for a new edc bag that isn't tactical at all, but still offers two front pouches and the orginazation, pretty much everything but the look. This is it. Same overall design, just made for civilian use and no molle webbing. The TWO laptop sleeves are padded and on point, good for other things as well. Straps are comfortable in all the right places, good structure. I highly recommend this bag, id buy it again and again if it was stolen, God forbid. The water bottle holders are alot bigger and deeper than I thought, nalgene sized for sure. Enough praise on the bag, go ahead n buy it. The gray is badass.5The ultimate diaper bagI feel a bit like a diaper bag pro after 3 kids and countless bags of various brands. From cheap Walmart sets to storksak and petunia pickle bottom. We've tried them all it feels like. This one has to be my favorite. The laptop pocket is perfect for the changing pad. The shorter pocket in front of that is handy for wipes and my wallet. The large area holds extra clothes, a steel container of snacks, my wet bag with cloth diapers and covers. The front pocket is perfect for baby essentials like thermometer, Band-Aids, and a few months essentials. The upper pocket works great for my Altoids tin of mini essential oils and my extra punch cards. The side pockets are the best for my water bottle and baby's. There is also loops on the straps in front where I hang my car keys for easy access. Overall, I love this thing. The bottom is vinyl so I like not worrying about it getting filthy. Feels durable.5Very disappointedI usually like most Carhartt products but the bottom of this backpack is not very durable as advertised. I wish I could return it for something else. Every corner is starting to show heavy wear or ripping. The backpack has only been in use for 5 months and it s been used normally. I haven t done anything out of the norm like camping or hiking.1High quality. Recommended.- The size works well for me.- The material is heavier and stiffer than other brands.- The straps and back are well padded, breathable, and comfortable.- The water bottle pockets will hold my 2-inch diameter bottles.- The pack can be used for airline carry-on.5Lasted a little over a yearI bought this to use for work in a gravel pit so I need something tough. Carhartt cloths have always served well so I figured I would try their backpack. It's made out of the same material which is nice. Would have been nice if it had the same sturdy zipper, however maybe would not be as flexible as the current one. The bottom is a sturdier leather like material for when you set it down. I like the big mesh pockets on the side of the bag. A lot of times they are too small. Two separate main cargo area may have been nice instead of the tablet sleeve. However a good simple backpack. There are other models you can upgrade too.Update: The fake leather on the bottom has started to wear off pretty quickly. Disappointing considering the price.Update: A little over a year later the front zipper has gone out.2
