Customer Reviews

Works To Charge Both KindlesI read numerous reviews by others: sorry if it didn't work for you. Mine charges two (2) different Kindle models quickly. Quicker than my charger for the iPhone. Yes, felt it may be a gamble as unsure what size plug-in was needed...but it paid off well. 5Not for the Latest Paperwhite--Even Though They Say it is!Maybe this is a good charger. Just don't expect it to charge your newest Paperwhite. The info says it does, but you'll soon see that the plug that goes into the latest Paperwhite is slightly different than the previous Paperwhite, but just different enough to not let the charger plug into it. What a huge disappointment. Amazon does not package it's newest Paperwhite with a wall charger, so there I am wanting to charge it, and all I have is this incompatible charger that says it's designed for it!Let's see if either BoxWave or Amazon makes this right. But what am I supposed to use for a wall charger? And worse, how is a customer supposed to know when an ad is incorrect? 1Fine for my purposesLet me start by saying I did NOT have super high expectations for this device. I didn't read the reviews carefully. I bought two of these because they were cheap and because my vacuum sucked up the cable on my charger that shipped with my Kindle Fire. It totally stripped the plastic off, and I didn't feel comfortable plugging in something with so much bare wire showing. My husband's Paperwhite Kindle did not ship with a charger at all. These were cheap and seemed like what we needed. These devices charge our Kindles. We leave them plugged in for hours and hours before checking to see if they're charged, so I have no idea how quickly they charge. They do what we need them to do, so we're happy with them. 5UselessI plugged it in and all I saw was a bunch of blinking on my kindle. After an hour, I unplugged it and instead of it showing any extra charge, the battery indicator on my kindle paperwhite show an even less of a charge. Seems to have drained the battery instead of charging it. 1that the Kindle power jack is of poor quality, such that it is causing the intermittent ...I purchased this wall charger to replace one that I thought was defective in that it seemed to have an intermittent connection to my 3 year old kindle paperwhite, at the connection between the two. This resulted in no charging if the wire wasn't pulled up and to the side or otherwise manipulated, leading me to believe I needed a new Charger. This charger immediately worked, without any manipulation required, so I thought that my supposition was correct. After a couple of week of plugging the charger into the Kindle the same problem returned, intermittent charging. The new charger was functioning the same as the old one.The wall charger is of the same quality as 99%, of all others, I have acquired, and I have no doubt it will last until I accidentally break it. I gave it three stars because it is typical, of what you expect, from a wall charger; it is not remarkable in any way. It functions as required, it was inexpensive, and little more can be demanded. I do not know if the claims of early failure will be true, but it in no way looks any different than a hundred other chargers I have owned. The Kindle however, has been a royal pain. It is forever losing the current page when the power shuts down; it sometimes loses the book you are reading, and it seems that it is not protected from power surges when it is being attached to the charger. My experience suggests to me, that the Kindle power jack is of poor quality, such that it is causing the intermittent charging problems that many purchasers of this wall charger are complaining about. This is one more item in the list of Kindle irritants. 3THE BOXWAVE AMAZON KINDLE PAPERWHITE 10W WALL CHARGERWhen my wife's Kindle Paperwhite arrived I charged it with my Amazon Kindle 9W PowerFast adapter that I originally purchased to use with my Kindle Fire HD 8.9. After charging the PaperWhite it was apparent that sharing my charger might cause one or the other of us an inconvenience therefore I ordered the BoxWave charger for my wife. The Kindle PaperWhite has about a two week battery life between charges so we did not have to use the BoxWave charger for several weeks after it arrived. When my wife's PaperWhite finally required a charge she plugged in the BoxWave. Hours later the Kindle PaperWhite still had not been charged by the BoxWave charger. Following a close inspection of the BoxWave I noticed that the the micro USB plug of the BoxWave wobbled and that the charging lamp on my wife's PaperWhite was not coming on when the BoxWave charger was plugged in. Within a few seconds I noticed that the BoxWave seemed to be charge my wife's PaperWhite only when the micro USB plug was held in an exact position against the PaperWhite micro USB outlet. To confirm my findings I quickly plugged in the PowerFast charger and saw that it indeed was charging the PaperWhite with out any problem whatsoever. Normally I would have accepted an exchange for the defective unit, but Amazon informed me that it could not be exchanged. I therefore have to ship the unit back and accept a refund for that unit. Since I am quite pleased with my Amazon Kindle 9W PowerFast adapter, I decided to pay the additional cost and order the more expensive PowerFast adapter for my wife realizing that I should have done that to begin with. It also dawned upon me that by purchasing another PowerFast, if something happens to the cord or it's plugs, it is a simply matter of replacing the cord and not having to replace the entire unit were as the cord on the BoxWave charger is hardwired to it's transformer. Perhaps if I had been permitted an exchange for the BoxWave charger and had not decided to purchase another PowerFast adapter in its place, their replacement for the BoxWave might have shown that the problem with their unit was only perhaps a one time glitch and not a normal occurrence. 2Died way too quickly, I would not buy againOriginal Review: There are some oddly expensive kindle chargers out there. Don't buy them, buy this instead.I keep this by my bed to charge my kindle paper white over night. It does what it is meant to do, and ensures my kindle never runs out of juice.Very reasonably priced, arrived in good enough time, happy purchase.Edited to add: So I bought this in June and by late October it had completely died. I actually thought there was something wrong with my kindle, it was taking so long to charge. I'm relieved that the much cheaper and more easily replaced charger was at fault. Then the entire thing just fell apart, and couldn't be put back together (it looked unsafe and I was worried it would hurt the kindle) and so I bought another one (not this brand again)I definitely feel it should have lasted longer - all it did was plug into the wall and very occasionally be moved for a weekend away. 1Bubbles, bubbles...I read reviews, followed directions and other reviewers' tips, and was very careful throughout. The result? About twenty bubbles, mostly around the edges, but about five are in the main reading area. The cause of the edges' bubbling is likely some dust/dirt from the edges since I did not put this on a new Kindle, but on one that I'd used daily for about two months (when I realized, hey, I should protect this from daily use). Yes, I cleaned it and even took a toothpick to the edges before cleaning, after cleaning, and then cleaned it again with a lint-free cloth. /shrug. I wasn't too worried about it, but just wanted it to mostly stick around the edges. With the first piece of plastic, I knew it would get messed up since getting off every errant speck on it is nearly impossible. But, I figured I could use the first piece to lift off those specks and then immediately put the second one on the screen. Using the first screen this way worked well and the second one almost worked, but a tiny fine hair floated onto the new screen in that brief time (while I was stripping the backing off the second one) and created a large surrounding bubble around it. So, having read a review saying that it could be lifted and hairs removed without a problem, I did so... And getting that hair off without messing up the screen took time (it is not easy), which meant time for (apparently) specks of dust to settle on the Kindle and/or sticky protective plastic. When I finally got it back on, the new bubbles immediately showed up with center specks that are barely visible, but cause 1/16" to 3/16" wide bubbles. In retrospect, I blame the dust on the ceiling fan (which was on). Okay, bad luck or whatever, but very frustrating since it's impossible to fix.On the plus side, the screen is protected; the plastic is sticking solidly. When the Kindle is on, I don't notice the bubbles unless there's glare on the screen (I imagine a matte finish might be even less noticeable). So, my advice: Use this on a new Kindle if you can, lay out everything on a flat surface and ready to go, make sure there's no drafts, wear a short-sleeved shirt, keep some tweezers handy, and, heck, wear a hairnet. If it doesn't go on perfectly anyway, know that even half a dozen small bubbles won't keep you from reading and the protector will stay on. 3Bad CordAfter little wear, the cord at the box plug frayed (box too heavy?), and the box plug area had the cord cover come off & the wiring was loose...it may or may not charge the kindle depending on it s position. What a pain...to get up the following morning before a travel day to discover the kindle didnt charge!! I bought another cord without the box thingy & its fine (one similar to my iphone charge cord - too bad they can t share!). That one also packs better for travel. Not sure why that box doohickey is needed! 1TerribleWorked for about 3 days. After the third day it worked when it wanted, now day 4 its completely broken. When I received my item the box did not look new and the plastic bag inside holding the charger was not heat sealed. Seems like someone sent it back and they just sent it back out. Worked great when it actually worked though, this is a shame. Hoping the new one will be better, will update once it comes. 1
