Customer Reviews

Awesome speakersHad the HT8W's installed and hooked up with 6" ceiling speakers (rear surrounds) before I had a center or sub. With my receiver adjusted for no center and large speakers, this set up really sounded awesome. Great bass and highs almost no need for center or sub. I now have a center (accoustech pl28) and 12" sub installed and it does sound better (of course awesome bass for movies). But if your looking have the most economical surround that sounds good with a larger driver, than pair these up with some nice ceiling speakers and you will be set. 5Awesome SpeakersI recently purchased the BIC America HT8W In-Wall speakers after researching a lot of speakers. I had floorstanding speakers on my 1st floor living room but wanted something which will go in the wall as I have a 21 month old son and the in-wall look much better visually in the living room. I purchased one set of HT8W (note that when you order, one box has 2 speakers in it) and installed them as surround speakers. I was so happy with them that I turned around and purchased 2 additional speakers and installed them as the front speakers in my living room. My living room is 17feet by 20 feet with 9 feet ceilings and these speakers fill the room with beautiful sound. Their tweeters are amazing and can be pointed towards the listening position. The woofer inside the speaker gives out decent bass but you will need a subwoofer to provide adequate bass. I have a polk PSW505 subwoofer and it matches well with these speakers. Overall I am really happy. I love to listen to music and I am hearing sounds which I have never heard before. I have not installed a in-wall center speaker because I am using an existing infinity PC350 center.Installing them in the wall was easy. I had one place where there were 2 studs which were about 7 inches apart and I got some contractor and he was able to install the speaker by mounting the screws into the 2 studs instead of using the wall bracket which comes with the speaker. For the other 3 speakers, I was able to easily mount the speakers with the bracket provided. You will need about 30 - 45 minutes per speaker for mounting if you are doing this for the first time. These speakers should work great for movies too.. I have not watched a movie yet with the new speakers but I will update the review after watching a couple of movies.I am amazed that the price of these speakers is so low. These speakers can be easily compared with some of the speakers which cost at $500 or more per set. Try these out, you will love them. I have tried a different variety of Polk audio RTI, LSI7, Infinity and Bic Venturi speakers and am aware of how budget speakers sound. This is my first time in trying out In-Wall speakers and the sound from these speakers compares well with the floorstanding speakers. My wife is also happy with the BIC America HT8W In-Wall and that makes a big difference... 5Very nice buyI ordered 4 boxes thinking I was buying 4 speakers. But each box contains 2 speakers so I ended up with 8. I was thinking of returning 2 boxes but when I heard the speakers for the first time, I decided to keep them all with me. You cannot get a better deal than this. Low price, excellent sound - I also bought the LCR SPEAKER and 12 inch sub and wow - my 15 by 10 room is FILLED with wonderful sound. Installation is very easy once you do the first one. Unless you just want to spend more money or are looking for a specific brand for some reason, I recommend you buy these and you will not regret. 5Great valueI've always liked BIC speakers. For the money, they are a great value. The installation is easy but I think the mounting bracket needs to be wider. When installed properly, only tow sides of the bracket clamp onto the drywall. The two long sides float over the hole giving no support whatsoever. 4Nice sound you can point the woofer towards you and adjust the treble and midrange settingsLooks and sounds impressive hides behind the wall one thing you have to make sure it is when you re getting close to the stadium to leave a quarter inch for the black bracket They close between the wall and drywallAlso need to be the size of the black bracket 5Excellent speakers regardless of priceI bought a second pair of these for in-ceiling audio. They are very high quality and sound fantastic. Easy to mount. I don't run a lot of power through them, but their frequency range is impressive with the low-end being very surprising. One pair serves as the front L/R of a 5.1 surround system. Very suitable in this application. The other pair (in-ceiling) primarily are used for music and do a very respectable job without the need for a sub in the pool room. I will be buying more of these as I expand more audio to more rooms. 5Great sound, affordable price, easy install, quality units (and 2016 update)My wife wanted to get rid of all visible speakers in our latest remodel. My budget wasn't much, and I looked strongly at the Polk Audio 6 & 8" wall units too. But I kept coming back to the reviews on these BIC units, so I thought to give them a whirl.I was impressed with the speaker feel and build quality. They also had a mid-range speaker, which the Polks (and others) didn't have. The installation was simple. They went into a wall soffit area that had a lot of open space in back of them. I was concerned they might need some insulation behind to dampen them out. But when I fired them up, I could tell they would do just fine there without insulation. The sound is very nice, full and clear, and even gives my old floor (8" three way) speakers a run for their money. (I do use a subwoofer with these, as the bass is good, but not quite good enough for movies and real low end.)The tweeters swivel inside the 8" speaker, and I found this to be a decent design (as opposed to a few other reviewers who didn't like this). I had to install the speakers high on the wall, due to fireplace and window limitations, and I find that the aim-able tweeters point the high frequency downward just fine. With a center channel speaker (Polk Audio TL1) for TV sound, we are quite satisfied. They also have a Db adjustment on the speakers face for the midrange & tweeter. I used this to back off the overly bright sound of one speaker (because I had to place near a corner). And even though we haven't repainted the walls yet (and therefore the speaker grills) my wife is quite pleased as the speakers are hidden in the wall fairly well. When we repaint, they will come close to disappearing completely! Some things I read said they had listened to these BIC and other 8" wall speakers side by side, and found these much better. I can't claim the same thing, but I just know we are well pleased - and especially for the price!June 2016 update: Moved to a different house and got these speakers again, since we were so pleased with them! Had to go a week or so with some other speakers while these were shipped, and there was a big difference - everything is so much clearer and crisp! So after 3 years we're still big fans!! 5sound great. very pleased with the price perf ratiosound great. very pleased with the price perf ratio. used as surround to support the polk 220T rear and 550T fronts the grill could use a trim down one edge by .5mm as it 'just' stops one long edge from sitting completely flush to the surround. nothing that a pair of tin snips could sort out in 5 mins though I should not have had to do this... hence one star off. Its more about the sound quality and they are perfect for my application..... 4awesome speakers for a fair pricei am not audiophile so don't expect a detailed review. I had some klipsch floor standing speakers and needed to replace the in-wall and in-ceiling speakers that were installed by the previous owner of my house. I selected those as they were supposed to be similar to klipsch in sound but large enough to fit in the existing cut-outs (the klipsch equivalent would have been ~400 dollars...).installation was easy but one woofer didn't work - amazon shipped me a new set and gave me a refund, all good!they sound good to me but again, no audiophile here. 5Couldn't be happier!Let me start by saying I don't normally write reviews, but with as good as these speakers are, it is warranted. I bought 2 pairs (4 speakers) of the HT8W BICs after reading all the reviews on here. I first hooked 2 of them up before installing them in the wall and they sounded pretty bad. However, I knew that without an enclosure, they wouldn't be able to produce any bass. The build quality is very good other than the grilles don't sit flush unless you grind them down (like others here have mentioned).I installed the first pair as surrounds with a 13 year old 5.1 Panasonic receiver. The walls are 1/2" drywall with fiberglass insulation. The speakers are installed at eye level when standing. The room is 23' wide by 30' long. Once installed, I set the adjustments on each speaker to "0." At this point, the speakers sounded only okay as surrounds as they didn't seem to fit well with my setup (I am using 25 year old BIC ventury floor speakers in the front and a Mirage center from an old setup). However, since I knew that my other speakers were not matching and my receiver was old, I left them in place. Following this, I installed the other 2 speakers as rear surrounds , also at eye level when standing, and ordered a Denon 7.2 receiver/amp (AVR-3311CI). This amp comes with Audyssey MultEQ room correction and EQ, which I ran immediately after connecting to all my speakers and 2 subs (one sub is a custom in wall and the other a 500W 12" JBL). Audyssey determined that my BIC floor speakers were capable down to 40 Hz and the HT8W in wall BICs were good down to 60 Hz. Because Audyssey determined my center channel was only capable to 200 Hz, it set the crossover for the subs to 120Hz. With the room correction and EQ, this caused the speakers to come together and sound amazing. The only issue I had at this point was the bass and subs, as something just didn't sound right. THX says the crossover for all speakers to the subs should be set to 80 Hz, so that's what I manually changed my settings to, and it fixed the problem. Once this adjustment was made, the system sounded solid, matched completely with the BIC fronts, and put my Mirage center to shame. To really hear these speakers in action, I play music in "multi channel stereo" which is like "party" mode on other receivers. The highs are crisp, VERY detailed, mids are accurate, and lows sufficient for their size and for being in wall. At low volume all the way to reference levels, the speakers maintain amazing clarity and precision. While some reviews have said that BIC was trying to copy Klipsch, they may or may not have been, but the end result is that they sound VERY comparable to the Klipsch. I will be buying many more of these for my other rooms and for the ceiling of the living room when I upgrade to Atmos down the road. I will also be buying more of these to replace the center and floor speakers. In summary, make sure you set your crossover for the speakers to subs at 80 or 100 Hz, use fiberglass insulation behind the speakers, and don't blame the speakers for the characteristics of the room (or use an EQ) if you have a large, odd shaped, and/or echoing room. If you do these things, you'll have Klipsch quality speakers at an unbeatable price. And if these speakers are built with the same quality as the 25 year old BIC floor speakers I have, your in walls will be WELL worth the money. 5
