Select all negative reviews and sort by date and you will find that this card does not work with Windows 10 subsequent to the release of Microsoft's Win 10 creator's update released in November. Review after review gives one star in 2018. Equally alarming, is that the card, when installed, functioned well, until I turning off my system at night. On reboot, this this is unable to connect to a network. The drivers installed from the Asus site are signed by Realtek. They don't work.1What a differince this product makesWorks great just like it said with no problems at all. Install was supper easy on windows 10 pro. I would highly recommend this product with no problem. About the only other thing I could say is what a difference this usb 3.0 adapter makesUPDATE, received this product on April 14 2017 got up today which is 9-15-2017 working in email and it just quiet no connection no nothing checked everything could not find anything wrong so pulled out one of my older ac adapter put it in same usb 3.0 port and internet again. Don't think I will be getting another one , think I will stick with NetgearUpdate talked to asus on the above problem the determent that it needed to be sent back so I thought that they were going to send a new one but to my surprise it wasn't they RMA it back to be repaired or replaced and to top it off I had to pay for the shipping of it and they wanted it to be from a company that could be tracked and that cost more along with a confirmation of delivery so as they say I am not a very happy camper at the present, thoroughly disgusted with them. oh I forgot the RMA is not a lable you have to take it to a place where they can make a label for shipping back.1Disconnect Issues Completely SolvedInitially I connected the ASUS USB-AC68 AC1900 Dual-Band USB 3.0 WiFi Adapter to a USB 3.0 port on my desktop using a somewhat long but very good high quality USB extender cable. The USB-AC68 worked great, except when it didn't....I kept getting periodic disconnect issues as others have reported. So, debugging ... I decided to remove the USB 3.0 Extension cable completely and plugged the WiFi unit directly into a free USB 3.0 port on my desktop. Result: I have not gotten a single disconnect issue since and it has been many, many months now. Evidently there must be a noise or signal quality issue that develops going through the USB cable from the device. If you are having disconnect trouble I recommend you find a free USB port close to the motherboard (or make one) and let the AC-68 live there for your wireless connection. As an FYI I use a Gigabyte motherboard. But, my WiFi AC-68 unit is plugged into an ANKER USB 3.0 extension board which provides me access to a few more USB 3.0 ports. Hope this helps. This is a good unit when it works.I should mention that this USB WiFi dongle connects to my "ASUS Whole Home Dual-Band AiMesh Router (AC1900) for Mesh Wifi System (Up to 1900 Mbps) - AiProtection Network Security by Trend Micro, Adaptive QoS & Parental Control (RT-AC68U)" as the household WiFi router. This is unit is located 1 floor below where I connect with this USB WiFi dongle.5Color me impressedI must say, I was very skeptical about this device, having had plenty of past mediocre experiences with other usb wifi adapters and seeing all the negative reviews about this one overheating, disconnecting, dying, or even being brought to its knees at one point by the Windows Creators Update. But this thing, has so far exceeded all expectations.Using the 5 Ghz band is where this adapter really shines. Being in a room in this house where some ungodly field of interference has plagued me for many years is no longer an issue with this device. The stability is just insane. Any pro gamer who plays first person shooters knows that it is not about the bandwidth of a connection that matters but the stability by which frames of data are consistently delivered. I have provided an image just to show how smooth the green curve for the download speed is (this is literally what a direct lan line connection looks like). Upload speeds are a bit choppy when increasing, but this is certainly nothing new with most modern devices. My ISP currently allows me up to 400 Mbits download speeds (upload is like 25 Mbits). I am also about 30 feet away from the router.Though this might not seem far, keep in mind that I am dealing with some crazy unknown wall of interference that hampers most wifi devices and am using a default ISP router (Sagecom) from Spectrum at the other end. My Samsung S8 on the 5ghz band can reach around 150 Mbits. This utility certainly has it considerably beat. So I am pretty happy with those results.Installation is very straight forward. All you have to do is simply plug it in and the default Windows 10 wifi driver takes over. The default driver appears to have been updated to support AC devices as I am getting up to 500-700 Mbits of data throughput with the limitations I am experiencing (this device should be able to push over 1 Gbit of throughput in most other situations from what I have witnessed).I have experimented with both the dated ASUS driver and Realtek driver to find that the default driver was the best option of the bunch. Neither the ASUS or the Realtek driver saw any real improvement in bandwidth or throughput. The Realtek driver in fact caused some problematic lag spikes upon attempting to uninstall and revert back to the original Windows driver. This was remedied by a netsh winsock reset. All in all, I am happy with this purchase. The amazing performance of the ASUS PCE-AC88 on another desktop is what led me to take a chance with this more expensive usb adapter. Was it worth it? So far yes, yes indeed. Let's just hope it doesn't run into any of the previously mentioned issues. Otherwise it will stay at 5 stars.5Windows 10? Try Just Plugging It In First.I don't get to write many reviews anymore. I'm to busy pretending that I'm busy.I've had this for a little over 24 hrs. I read some reviews that said it didn't work at all, it worked but drops out, or it works after I download drivers from Realtek. However, I bought it because overall it had a lot of good reviews. What's cute about this item is that it comes with a CD! This is a new desktop computer build for me. I haven't put a DVD-rom in a new computer in three maybe four years. Even if you do have a DVD/CD-Rom player you don't install drivers from it. The drivers are old right out of the box. So I put the cd aside with all my old AOL discs. I went to the ASUS website and came close to downloading the new drivers. However, by nature, I'm a lazy man and decided WTF I'm just plugging it in. Windows 10 recognized it right away. I got it hooked up to the network and I got some decent speed from Speednet. So I decided to download a few bittorrents and let go all day and night. It's now 1910 Hrs and it hasn't dropped out once. What have we learned? You don't have to install drivers right away. I try to avoid if possible. True, I've only had for a day. If I have any problems I'll update my review.5Grab your racing gear and rev your engines, because this thing is FAST! I cannot fully explain how much I love this adapter! I've been using this device for the past couple of days, and it provides an extremely fast signal with absolutely no hiccups. Also, it out performs my Rosewill RNX-AC1900PCE (which is a PCI-E adapter I might add) by more than 2 times. Using the Netgear R7000 wireless router, I received up to 210 mbits/s download, and around 25 mbit/s upload (these are the maximum speeds that my ISP provides). I may not be a huge fan of the antenna style, but I won't argue as its coverage is outstanding, and its speeds are mind-boggling as of now. The cable for the cradle is about 120 centimeters, which isn't that long, and the cable is fairly thick due to its USB 3.0 nature. Despite the small critiques, if the adapter is fairly close to your computer, you won't have an issue. Overall, I'm thoroughly enjoying the speed and reliability of this adapter, and I would highly recommend this to anyone who is in the market for a fast and reliable wireless solution for their computer. 5Great product. Didn't have any problem with installation of ..."Wow! Great product. "OK, this was my opinion for a few days, then everything changed. The adapter still is great when it works. As many expressed their opinion, the accompanied software with divers that suppose to control the adapter is pretty much useless: the adapter was being constantly disconnected, whatever I try, while running Win 7 64 on my DELL. Only I was able to make it stable after removing ASUS software with drivers and installing Edimax drivers as instructed by S1N1C reviewer. Now, for the time being I am happy with the product. And, by the way, don't even try ASUS customer service. In summary, I should have given one star or even less for the software, one star for the customer service and probably four stars for the adapter itself.4Plug and play this is not. I have no ...Plug and play this is not. I have no idea how it got 4 stars with all the issues I've had in both Windows 10 and Windows 7. It's infuriatingly inconsistent. It will hit 22 MB/s sometimes with Steam updates and then dip to zero for a minute or two before reconnecting and going blazingly fast. Knowing it can go fast makes the disconnections/drops to zero immensely irritating. I have to use it paired with another, much older Linksys wireless adapter to make sure I don't lose connection.Reading other reviews that mention an insane number of hoops to jump through to get it working boggles my mind. Don't sell a product if it doesn't work.1Works as advertised (for a novice user) - review update - 1/10/20193/19/2020 - Product review update: I've had this product for 18 months now, still working fine, no issues at all.1/10/2019 - Product review update: I've had this product for several months now and am still very happy with it. Absolutely no issues, still getting very decent download/upload speeds and have made my wife happy with her computer again. Averaging 22-27MB's on the downloads and 19-25MB's on the uploads (which is 2 to 3 times better than my previous product) with a 100MB ISP service. Pings are averaging around 15-19ms. Note: this testing is with a speed test service not associated with my ISP provider. I may be wrong but my ISP provider's "speed test" always seems to bring back very high results which I don't think are "real world". My computer is about 50 feet from my router with several walls in between (standard wallboard/wood frame house). Hope this helps.Initial Review: Bought this item to replace a much older product that, at the time, seemed acceptable. However, when my Internet Service Provider "upped" the down service speed from 25MB to 50MB at no additional charge I found that I couldn't take advantage of it.I already have an ASUS router (recently purchased) so I decided to stay with the ASUS product line, especially after reading the favorable reviews for this product. After receiving the product, I installed the CD drivers and immediately updated them from the ASUS website (not sure if I just simply duplicated what I already had done but did it anyway). Plugged the ASUS unit in, navigated to my Wi-Fi page and found my router. Input the password and I was up and running. The speed is definitely faster than I had before, not sure if I'm getting all of the "bang" available but it certainly does what I need it to do. I'm sure that someone who knows how to do this better than myself could "fine tune" the installation. One minor issue with it was that it seemed to take a couple of tries for it to "remember" the link after I powered down the PC. I had to "reconnect" but it did eventually "remember" the link and now works fine. Not sure if this is an "idiot in front of the screen" error or something with Windows 10.Hope this helps any other "novice" looking to install this device.5Works great...For a few months. This is the fastest USB WiFi Adapter I have ever had, but also the least reliable. After having it for only three months, it now doesn't even work.it constantly drops out for no reason, and I have to reboot my machine multiple times for it to work, but even then, it works for a minute or so before completely dropping out.I've tried everything to fix the problem, I even did a fresh install of my OS and re-downloaded the drivers from the manufacturer's website, but still Nothing.STEER CLEAR OF THIS ADAPTER!IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS!It will work great in the beginning, but PROBLEMS WILL COME!1Great speeds, terrible reliabilityThis is probably one of the best USB adapters I've ever had. I'm easily able to get 250Mbps of download speed, which is my provided max speed from Comcast, and it maintains the speed throughout downloads. My biggest problem with this, and most wireless adapters, is that driver support is incredibly sketchy. As of writing this the most recent driver was released May 8, 2017 and this release still did not resolve the problem I've had since buying this back in January. Even after trying multiple different versions I still encounter the same issue. Occasionally after hours of use the connection just randomly drops, and I hear Windows system play the sound as if the USB device has been removed and reinserted. This only seems to happen when I'm connected to my home wireless N/AC network. For a card designed to take advantage of the new AC networks it's utterly disappointing to chronically encounter this problem even after a using it will a fresh install of Windows 10. All of this is made even more confusing and frustrating as the USB-AC68 is connecting to an Asus router while being plugged into an Asus motherboard. If you are just looking for a good wireless adapter to speed of file transfers and downloads, the USB-AC68 will suit you well; however if your intent is gaming or anything else that requires a rock solid connection, I can't recommend this because of its propensity to drop connection. If anyone has insight as to what could be causing this, I'd love to know.Update 9/25/2017: Was contacted by Asus customer loyalty program, and they wanted to have me ship the unit to them to be evaluated for defects. I was not informed whether they would cover the cost of the shipping. What truly made this unacceptable was that they were not going to provide me with any sort of temporary replacement for the 7-10 day period of inspection of my device AFTER they would receive it. While I appreciate the inclination to resolve my issue, asking me to forfeit my means of connectivity without compensation or replacement is asking far to much so they can remedy their screw-up.Moral of the story: if you have a problem with this or any other device, try to work it out with Amazon. At least they know how to provide good customer service.2
