Sometimes insurance really IS worth it. Glad I purchased.I was a little unsure about purchasing this accident plan for my new tablet, since it might well have been money wasted and never needed. However, in late December, my tablet fell off an elliptical trainer and was trapped between the moving metal arms of the machine. It ended up bent into a semi circle... somehow still working (go Samsung!) but definitely no longer reliable, and no longer fitting in its case. So I made a claim. SmartGuard exceeded my expectations in several ways: 1) I had never finished registering the product when I first received it. But SmartGuard helped me finish the registration process a year late, which they totally could have declined to do. 2) They sent me a shipping label, and I put the broken tablet in the mail 3 days before my insurance period was up. I called and they assured me "we will see this repair through to completion even if it extends past the time of your insurance coverage, because you were covered when you made the claim". 3) They needed replacement parts, and those took time. But both times I called for an update, I was given great service and reliable times for expected repairs. 4) the item shipped earlier than expected, and when I got it back it looks brand new and works perfectly. I am totally surprised to be saying this because my expectations were low, but I am 100% happy with my service experience. It was absolutely worth the money!5They did what they said they'd doAfter replacing ipads several times for our autistic son, because I didn't buy insurance, I figured I'd try this company. Previously Amazon was selling a different plan, from a different company, which I had purchased for the ipad he uses for communication. The reviews had me a bit nervous when it came time to make a claim, but I have to say the process was painless. I contacted the company, told them he had dropped his ipad, which was in an otterbox defender, and the screen cracked. The communication was excellent, and the next day they sent a prepaid label via email. I boxed it up, and less than one week from the Thursday I dropped it at Fed-Ex ground, it was returned via Fed-Ex express. I couldn't be more satisfied. We've purchased another ipad since, and I just purchased this same plan for that device after the excellent service.5DO NOT BUY THIS WARRANTY - UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!Do not waste your money with these people - they will only repair your device not replace it and even that they will not do well. You need to call about 4 times before they will accept the device back for repair and each time you will wait half an hour and then get transferred to multiple depts. Its all a scam to get you to give up. Finally sent my tablet in for service and IT CAME BACK WORSE THAN WHEN I SENT IT. Now I need to file a new claim. LOL. Its been over a month since I started this process....1BUYER BEWARE!!!PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE WASTING YOUR MONEY AS I DID! Don't believe it when it says, "No hassle. Covers accidental drops and spills." I dropped my tablet and cracked the screen. I was told it is NOT covered because I was carrying it in a bag/case. I use a bag to carry my tablet, keyboard, charger and ear buds. My claim I was denied because I was not carrying my tablet in my hand when I dropped it. If they use excuses such as this, they probably have an excuse for denying had I have been carrying it in my hand!1THIS IS A SCAM!! DO NOT BUY THIS PLANHorrible customer service! DO NOT BUY THIS PROTECTION PLAN. It is a scam. They claim that they cover drops and spills. I accidentally dropped my tablet while it was in a case and it created a small hairline crack - the touch screen feature isn't working. I called to file a claim, I didn't hear for ONE MONTH. I finally called them back to see what the hold up was. They said they denied my claim due to "improper storage." They don't explain to me what that means? They said it could have broken due to books or whatever else was in the case?! NOTHING WAS IN THE CASE EXCEPT THE TABLET. ITS A TABLET BAG!!! The people you speak to on the phone there are not able to EVER help you. You are always advised to speak to a supervisor BUT the supervisor is NEVER there! Completely useless package. Avoid getting this protection plan!1Just another insurance company worming its way out of having to pay for anything. My daughter kept her tablet in a protective case. She left it in a covered box in our car so she could join her mother for shopping and when she came back she found the screen cracked. We think it might have been the cold (just under freezing temperatures that day) that did it.Smart Guard wormed its way out of paying to fix it by stating they do not cover damage caused by weather.Horrible service, will not ever purchase again or recommend this to anyone.ps... somebody needs to explain to me how dozens of people can continue giving this a 5 star review saying thinks like "I've never actually had to use it, but it's nice that I can buy it."1Doesn't live up to expectationsWe bought this contract for my Ipad with the understanding that it covered accidental damage, including if the screen were to crack. This is not the case. My screen cracked and we sent it in for repair, after I told the customer service operator that the damage was a cracked screen and I did not know how it happened. At that time I was told no problem. Well, after waiting a week for the box to send it to them, we called again. At that time I speculated on the cause of the damage. They put one of the options I mentioned down as the cause which surprise, they wouldn't cover. After much hassle, they grudgingly fixed the screen and sent it back with a note that said, " Due to the terms of your extended warranty agreement, cosmetic damage is not covered." I was told by one of their reps that the claim was denied and that if I said I had dropped it, it would have been covered. During this ordeal, I called the Apple Store. They would have fixed it for a very reasonable price and told me that with their Apple Care protection, no matter how the screen was cracked, it would have been covered. So, my suggestion to you as the consumer, really know what you are getting, and if you are getting an extended warranty, go with the warranty provided by the products company. It may cost more in the end, and maybe not, but you will know you are truly covered without the stress.1Stay awayDoes not live up to their own policy. Purchased a kurio tablet for $129 plus the smart guard warranty. With 4 months left on the warranty the screen got cracked so I thought no problem, that's why we spent money on the warranty. Response after the claim was quick but took over a month to get any update. Was expecting a new or repaired tablet as the warranty would have you expect, instead got this. "Thank you for your inquiry. We were unable to locate a replacement product within our limit of liability. To avoid going over the limit of liability, we must deduct the paid claims from your original purchase prices, which is why the cashout is for $99.10. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any additional questions or concerns." Now the tablet is still available at the same price so replacement shouldn't have been a problem, and the warranty clearly states that we are not supposed to pay for any parts or repair. At least I got the $99 out of them, recommend staying away from them.1Best Money I Have EVER Spent on an Accidental Protection Plan!Asus Nexus 7 Tablet 32 GB, Black Six months ago I purchased a $245 tablet for my daughter for her 11th birthday. It was quite an expensive gift for an 11 year old, but they often had "Bring Your Own Technology" days at school and I felt this tablet (with a wireless keyboard case) would be quite useful for her in addition to being a very expensive "toy". It was the "Best Gift Ever!" My daughter loved her tablet and took excellent care of it. Then low and behold through no fault of her own (as witnessed by her Teacher), the tablet screen broke in her backpack probably as the result of having supplies in it we had packed for donation to her class. At any rate, I filed a repair claim with Smart Guard worried they would give me 100 hurdles to jump through or refuse to repair the tablet altogether. Wow was I ever wrong! The claim process was super easy and I had a response and shipping label within 24 hours of filing the claim. The tablet was repaired and returned to us as good as new within less than two weeks. I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SHIPPING! This is the very BEST money I've ever spent on an accident protection plan. THIS COMPANY IS AWESOME! I can not recommend them highly enough. If you're on the fence about whether or not to pay a few extra dollars to purchase a Smart Guard Accidental Protection Plan for your expensive purchase, I say GO FOR IT! You will not regret. My husband and I were the recipients of our daughter's overwhelming gratitude when we gave her the tablet, but we were her HEROES when we were able to get it repaired and back in her hands as good as new so quickly! THANK YOU Smart Guard for providing such awesome service and saving the day for my little girl. Great Company! Very Reasonable Prices!5Still waiting . . .I like to buy devices from "brick and mortar" stores for face to face customer care and protection, but you can't really find an Asus Vivotab Note 8 in a brick and mortar store, so I went with Smart Guard protection. One day I came home from work to find a crack in the screen of my Vivotab Note 8. The next day the tablet stopped taking a charge, and soon thereafter it stopped functioning altogether. I contacted SmartGuard immediately. At first things looked OK. I didn't have to wait too long to speak with someone, and I had a shipping label in my e-mail inbox by the following Monday. So far so good. Print the label. Drop the tablet off at FedEx. The FedEx guy even gave me a break on the bubble wrap, so I was a happy camper. Having sent devices away via Office Depot, Best Buy, and Asus (which often is alleged to have poor customer care, but has actually been pretty decent for me), I thought I knew what to expect. I was wrong.I was pleased that the ground shipment only took just less than two business days--kudos to FedEx (though not to SmartGuard for only paying for ground shipment from CA to NY).But then, nothing happened. I called about 30 hours after FedEx delivered the tablet to inquire into the status of the tablet. The lady that I spoke with was miffed that I would have expected them to even look at the tablet when "it just arrived yesterday" (in my experience with Asus, etc., my devices have been examined pretty much on the day that they arrived). She could give me no estimate as to when it might be looked at. Basically, they would look at it whenever they got to it in the line of devices that they are supposed to be testing.I waited another week--a little over a week, actually--and called again. The lady I spoke with this time, while more polite, was not much more helpful. She gave me the website and the contact info for the repair company that they had sent my tablet to. She said that SmartGuard did not have any information on its status. So I checked the website of the third (or is it now fourth?) party company that now had my tablet--lifetimeservice.com. Getting through there was not easy. I spoke with a lady there who seemed a bit irritated that I was talking with them directly and not with SmartGuard, and said that SmartGuard should have the information that I needed. She was able to tell me, though, that the screen was on back order and no further tests could be run on the charging port, mother-board, etc., without a working screen. Still on back order? Over two weeks after my first contact with SmartGuard and almost two weeks after I mailed it off? And no other tests have even been run? At this point, I'm getting nervous. So, yesterday (three weeks after my first contact with Smart Guard), I called SmartGuard and spoke with the same lady that I had spoken with before who had been polite and very sweet, but not helpful; and, once again, she was polite and very sweet, but still not helpful (although I was impressed that she remembered me). She still didn't have information for me, so she sent an e-mail to someone else (the "back office," I think) and suggested I call in the next day.So, I just called again about an hour ago. The lady I spoke with did not have info., but she put me on hold and contacted lifetimeservice.com for me. After a bit of a wait (20 mins? I didn't keep track), she got back to me and told me that the screen and some other parts are *still* on back order. This is over three weeks after my initial contact of SmartGuard! So, the "back office" has an e-mail from lifetimeservice.com about the delay on receiving the parts, and I am hoping (knock on wood) that they contact me in the next 24-48 hours. I'm not sure where to go from here.Oh, and while this tablet was away, my wife's tablet (the exact same make and model) had some problems, so I contacted Asus (hers is still under warranty with Asus). I sent her tablet off, Asus fixed it the day after it arrived, and we had it back within a week. Right now I am looking at about three times the turn-around time when dealing with SmartGuard.I will post an update when everything is resolved as time permits.1
