Exactly what we were hoping for. This tread sticks really well to painted and natural wood (we're using it in our kids playhouse). It was easy to use and has a really good traction grit - I doubt kiddos will be able to slip on these even if they want to. Exactly what we were hoping for. I really appreciate that the very last inch of the roll was usable - a lot of times companies use the adhesive product to attach it to the roll - not the case here. None of the tread is wasted - the backing is what is attached to the roll, so all of the tread is usable.Pros: traction grit is really slip-resistant, easy to installCons: none that I can think ofIf I could change anything about this product: nothingPackaging type: retail packaging - the tread comes rolled up in a color-printed box - exactly what I've seen in the last home improvement store I was in - just cheaper on AmazonIf you found this review helpful - please click the "Yes" button below this review indicating so - thanks! 5Super Strong Holding Power Used this on my boat trailer in critical stepping areas as well as the very front of the bow. My boat is aluminum and the paint has worn away causing a very slippery surface. I busted my buns so I put 4 strategically spaced strips..... Problem solved. The material is quite thick with heavy abrasived material attached. So far they have stayed stuck even though the aluminum gets incredibly hot here in the south. You could cook on the surface yet the tape continues to hold. 5Works Like It Should Out of the box they are working well as a non-skid entrance to my shed. The roll is easy to cut with basic scissors and the backing peels away easily when it is time to place them. They are a little forgiving if you miss the mark and can be put down in the right spot without much ado. My next goal is to place them on painted metal, exterior use, old running board on an auto, and if I can remember to do it I will update this for the outside usage once they go to work for a little while. 5Works great, but staples through the tape is dumb. It does what it's supposed to, easy to apply (remember to clean the surface), and really, really grippy. My only problem with it is the method used to keep the roll from unraveling. Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing chose to use a heavy-duty staple to seal the roll. Works great, but... If you are using this in a high traffic, high visibility area, there are imperfections in the tape that are relatively visible.I put this stuff on the stairs to my second floor, hoping to keep my wife from slipping down the stairs (again). It works perfectly, but when you consider you've already added something unsightly to your home, having little holes in the tape just makes it worse. C'mon, 3M, what's wrong with a rubber band? 4Does What It Should *Updated* I took a bad tumble down my porch steps while holding my toddler. The porch and stairs always get extremely slippery and after that, I went searching for some kind of grip. I have now had these on my porch and steps for 2 months and they work perfectly. It was very easy to place, just cut the corners round, peel and stick. They give a nice grip and I haven't slipped once since they have been on, even through several straight days of rain.*UPDATE August 8, 2017*Still holding up great. There has been absolutely no peeling and still not the least bit slippery. Love this product. 5Best for indoor use I received the product later than promised (I paid for 2-day shipping) and it had no application guidelines. My wood stairs were kiln dried and the weather had been dry for weeks before application, but it fell below freezing at night, and barely above 50 during the day. Probably marginal. 3 days after application it rained lightly and the tape was toast. And of course rain and ice are the reasons you would need a product like this. Might work better if there was a contact primer to apply and dry before the tape as the peel back adhesive just isn't too sticky. 2High Traction I applied this to my deck stairs a couple months ago now and it's holding like a champ even though it's rained 4 out of 5 days ever since. The traction is great. Whatever you want to put this on - it needs to be well cleaned and dry before you put it on.My application to painted wood stairs: I scrubbed with a floor brush, water bucket and a tiny bit of dish soap. Rinsed very well. Dried 24 hours. Quick wipe down with cotton cloth damp with denatured alcohol. (Not too much - don't dissolve your paint!) Applied the tape. Placed towel over it and used a metal roller vigorously. (Eternabond 2Lb Steel Roller is what I used)Things to consider if applying to wood. How recently was it waterproofed? I can't imagine any adhesive would work well on top of a coat of Thompson's water seal or whatever else.In the shade and slick because of moss/mold/lichen stuff growing on it? You have to get that stuff completely off if you want this to stick. Power washer followed by sand paper is what I'd do.I'll try to remember to come back and update this next summer after I see how it holds up longer term. 4Must have safety product Must have for anyone with outdoor steps. Last summer I built a set of steps to connect my 2nd floor deck to my yard. This does a great job of providing grip in the rain and snow.Application is very straight forward and easy, just follow the directions or do a Google search if your unsure. I rounded the corners of my strips down and applied two strips to each of the 12 steps. Wiped the wood down with isopropyl alcohol first and they have done a great job of staying put. Since I don't work with this product, I made the mistake of not wearing any sort of gloves during the installation and while pressing the strips down to guarantee full contact with the steps surface, I tore my hands up a bit until I found a set of gloves so i'd def advise anyone to wear gloves from the beginning during installation.Just inspected them earlier today and after a decent amount of snow this winter and close to everyday use by either myself or the 3 dogs, there isn't a single strip or piece of the tape that is coming up or appears lose. There is also a good deal of grip material with no smooth spots are areas that wouldn't provide traction if needed. Might be a bit expensive to some but its well worth the investment as I've seen what can happen when you slip and fall down steps that are covered in rain and ice. 4staying down might be a problem I followed the directions and put them down in 60 degree weather. They seemed to stick fine when the temperature dropped to 35 for a few days. When it went back up to the upper 50's some of them came off. The ones on the deck were fine but those on the two steps came off. Possibly the steps were damper since hey are on the ground. If they keep me from falling on the slippery deck, I am happy. I will report later how they hold up over time. I cut mine is 10" lengths. 4Wheelchair ramp I used this product on the ramp of my handicap van. So far it has helped with my being able to drive my electric wheelchair up the ramp when it is raining or sprinkling. Before my niece put this on, my wheelchair would slide going up the ramp when it was wet. The sliding made me very nervous because it would mean the wheelchair could have gone over the edge of the ramp. A person cannot always go when it is dry, so this helps very much. I need to order more to fill in some more places on the ramp to make it more slip resistant. 5
