They're a heck of a lot better to use than the double sided tape in most ... As people mentioned, it's a bit too expensive for what it actually *is* - in essence, a piece of plastic. However, since this piece of plastic can help deter or confuse people who are trying to sneak a peek into what you're doing or typing with your laptop, it's worth it.There are a few things to keep in mind when purchasing and using this filter:1. Be sure to affix the pull tabs to your laptop's screen. They're a heck of a lot better to use than the double sided tape in most instances. If you threw yours out, not knowing what they were, you can ask 3M for replacements for free.2. If you have a matte screen (one that doesn't reflect), your screen will become glossy once you attach this.3. This filter will be less effective if you have someone looking directly behind you, as well as in a low light enviornment. This filter works by reflecting light from nearby sources (such as the sun, ambient, or overhead lighting). If there is low light, the screen will appear darker for people outside of the viewing angle, but they will still be able to see what you are doing. 4LOVE it I didn't rate this 5 stars because it doesn't hold well if you constantly take it on and off. If you are ok leaving it on most of the time, it's freaking great. Not only does it look really cool to people who walk by, they can't see your screen unless they're right behind you. It's amazing how well this actually works. And unlike the cheaper ones, it doesn't dim the screen or color very much at all. Worth the higher price as you definitely get what you pay for. Would buy it again. 4Perfect fit for my Lenovo T450s Perfect fit for my Lenovo T450s. I use it with the gold side up and it works great. I does significantly cut down on the overall brightness of the screen so I find myself taking it off whenever I'm not using my computer in public. So to that end I wish that it was shipped with some type of scratch resistant sleeve that I can place it in whenever I take it out. As others have pointed out, tt does have the product ID stamped into the top of the filter but that is only noticeable on light colored backgrounds and really isn't a distraction.Another point regarding my the fit on my lenovo - Even before using the filter my screen would pick up markings from the routine finger oils that are on the keyboard whenever my laptop is closed. Which means that the keyboard is in contact with the screen when the laptop is closed. With the filter being about 1mm think, now the filter is picking up those markings whenever I close the computer with the filter on. I've been cleaning the filter using eyeglass cleaners and it seems to be fine, but only time will tell if the contact with the keyboard will cause permanent damage to the filter.Installation tip - I use the plastic tabs around the frame of my screen so I can slide the protector in and out whenever I want. Make sure that the tabs are set back enough so that all the adhesive is well on the frame. I have just a tiny bit of adhesive exposed and it sticks to the filter making it more difficult to put in and out. 4would repurchase I got the 14" 16:9 aspect ratio for my hp Pavilion laptop and it works wonderfully. Can't see a thing from the side angle as advertised. You can see if you're looking down, but that wasn't what was advertised so I'm not taking any points off. The screen is dimmer but nothing is distorted when I'm using the laptop normally and looking at it straight on. The strips are good adhesives too. I like that I can peel and reattach. As long as it doesn't get dusty I, have reattached well over 60 times. When they do get dusty I just rub my fingers over them under super hot water and the dust comes right off. The best part are free replacements strips. AWESOME! I had to google the web address for it as the one on the actual packaging didn't work. Once I got to the right site, my replacements came in less than a week later. I can't recommend 3M enough. Very good product and after care. 5but I cannot recommend it for a couple of reasons I wanted this item to work for my Dell laptop, but I cannot recommend it for a couple of reasons. My caveat is the filter does work indoors under average lighting conditions, but it is not useful outside. I was hoping the filter would help, but outside the screen was less visible although the glare was reduced. Actually, I could not read the screen at all.I wanted to set it up using the tabs so I could use the filter as needed. Unfortunately after cleaning the screen and placing the tabs according to the directions; the tabs just did not hold the screen filter in place. The bottom tab started slipping right away along with the filter. The smaller side tabs also started to shift as the filter began to drop. I tried using multiple small tabs at the bottom thinking that would help, but no luck there as they all began to slide down.I removed the tabs and gave up on that notion. I tried the tape next. Cleaning the screen and applying the tape went fine, but in the transfer process I ended up with dust on the tape, so it was not bubble free. I cannot see any way around this in my home. The tape was 'clear' but it was obvious, especially with the dust bubbles. Just the same I would still see the tape outline on the screen. As I noted earlier, the glare was reduced while indoors, but the light reflecting off the filter outdoors made the screen unusable. This makes this purchase not acceptable for my needs. I do suggest you think carefully about your needs and what you want to accept before buying this filter. I would also assume that the tabs are not going to work unless your screen has some 'grab' to support the needed friction to hold them in place. The tape will hold the screen in place, but the tape will be visible on the screen. The only real good news was that both the tape and the tabs did not leave residue or marks on the screen. 2Decent for indoor use where bright lights exist, but not for outdoor use. Yup, it's just OK. 3M is known to be an excellent brand, so when I needed an anti-glare screen for my laptop, I chose this. It fit my Dell 3750 laptop reasonably well. Frankly, it was the closest size since they don't make one specifically for it. I wish Dell wouldn't have put a high glare shiny glass screen on my laptop and it were more like my desktop displays which has a matte finish. But that review belongs on the Dell site :) I bought this hoping it would cut down on the glare/reflection while using my laptop outside in the sun. Sadly, it didn't do too well. When I first tested it around the house, it seemed fine and diffused the light well. But in very high sun situations it didn't work as well as I had hoped it would. While it definitely minimizes and diffuses glare, and would probably work nicely in an office where you don't want the lights visibly reflecting back at you, outside in full sun it actually seems to distribute the sun across the entire screen making it even harder to see. I'm not sure else how to describe it, but the film clearly takes the light and disperses it. This works well for lights man has created, but the sun just creates so much that it just doesn't help. And yes, I was sitting in the shade. 3The best privacy filter available. Get the gold. Fit my 14" Lenovo T460 Perfectly!Worried I needed the "high resolution" version of this but the quality of the filter is fine and can see everything without any strange artifacts. Not sure what people are complaining about but this Gold filter is the perfect privacy solution. It actually looks red when viewed from a side angle. If you are looking directly into the screen, it will appear very slightly tinted grey and from a side angle appears like a very reflective gold redish tone. Very nice. It will not stop someone standing right behind you or only at a very slight angle but provides peace of mind for casual glances. Works better than expected. 5Works as Advertised but with Sticky Installation (literally) I bought the 14" Anti-glare filter for my Lenovo YOGA 910 laptop with its beautiful 4K display (3840 x 2160). The only problem with the almost perfect laptop is the glare on the screen. This filter cuts the glare no doubt, but it is a messy install in my opinion. My filter came with the Slide Mount tabs, not the Attachment strips. The main difference between them, as far as I could tell, is Slide Mount tabs are attached to the display and Attachment strips are attached to the filter. I hated to put anything sticky on my beautiful display but I went with it. I had to reapply the sticky tabs twice but I finally got everything lined up. And you don't have to worry about bubbles because the filter is not stuck to the screen, it "hangs" in the Slide Mount tabs. The filter stays on when I open and close the lid but it isn't exactly stable. It will slide around on the display a little if you press hard, but since I just installed it I am hoping it will stick better with time. Another good point is the touchscreen functionality still works, I don't think it is quite as responsive as it was before but it works. I attached a picture so you can see the Slide Mount tabs. I took the picture around 6:00 PM Central so the sun was not really a factor, but the filter made a big difference earlier in the day when I was outside as well as the glare from overhead lights. 3One method to apply and it is lackluster. The 3M privacy filters are the standard for privacy filtering on any screen. I go for them every time. However, this time I was rather disappointing. First, the 14 inch screen protector that came was actually 15 inches. The box it came in also said that it was 14 inches so that was rather confusing. The good news with that muck up was that it fit around my bezel just fine and could be mounted that way.The next problem was the mounting options that came with the screen. normally there are two mounting options. the first is glue strips. These might as well be a permanent mount option because you will damage your screen if you peel them off wrong. The second are mounting tabs that are adhesive mounted to the bezel. These mounts allow the screen to be inserted and removed at will. The package I got only came with the permanent glue strips.I was lucky that the extra inch of space on the privacy filter I got allowed enough room to apply the strips so that their entire surface would contact with the bezel and the privacy filter. The only problem now is the fact that the strips are not as permanent as I thought they would be when attaching to a bezel. The privacy filter now falls off from time to time and I have to reapply it.Because of the sizing and mounting issues I will now be looking into alternate Privacy filters. It's sad, but 3M is slipping. 3Black vs. Gold - BUY THE GOLD ONE I bought the black one first, and then the gold. Don't make my mistake - spend the extra money and buy the gold.Black:- Very blurry if you aren't in a very well lit atmosphere. It hurt my eyes after a few minutes- Slightly curved or bowed. You can't stick it flush with the screen. So depending on which side you have on, either the upper/lower portions will be further away from the screen (and more hazy), or the middle part.- Only comes with tabs (no tape)- Hard to remove from the screen if you have a bezel (can't grab onto the thing!)Gold:- Clearly the newer one. It has taken complaints from the older black screens and better engineered this one.- Has a gold and a black side. Both options!- Gold is easier to see through (not blurry like the black one)- Not curved, but flat so it is easier to be flush with the screen.- Has a little cutout tab at the top so it is far easier to remove- Has both double sided sticky tape and tabs, for whichever option you prefer. According to the box, the sticky tape can be replaced for free when it is no longer sticky.Oddly, I think this review section has both black and gold in the same section. Pay close attention to which one the person bought who is making the reviews. 5
