    The output of this "420W" unit is less than the original Dell 250W power supply made by Bestec? From what I now understand about power supply units (PSUs):- Despite this product being labeled as a "420W" PSU, it actually outputs less usable power than the original 250W PSU that came with my Dell computer. Overall wattage rating is not indicative of the usable output that a PSU delivers under realistic conditions. See photos of the labels for the original PSU (Bestec) and this device (Replace Power) as an example.- If you simply want to replace a the original PSU in your Dell, going with the same unit (Bestec brand) is a good choice.- If you need a higher output PSU to drive a new video card and/or other component in your system, then you will need something with more output than this device or the Bestec.- If a vendor or manufacturer does not publish more than just a total wattage number of a PSU on its website or in its listing, then don't buy it.Here is a link to a helpful article on understanding PSUs that I wish I would have read before buying this item:http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-power-supplies/8/On a side note, kudos to Amazon.com's great customer service. It was easy for me to obtain a shipping label to return this product, which is why I always feel comfortable buying most anything from Amazon. 1Good PSU replacement for basic use Bought this for my Dell Inspiron 545s. This was actually replacing another after-market PSU that had fried. Like many others in the reviews, I thought I was purchasing the 350W unit, but was shipped the 450W unit. Replace Power included a slip of paper explaining that, even though it may be a higher wattage than the original PSU, it would still work. I wasn't complaining about getting the 450W instead of the 350W, so I installed it anyway. Installation was very simple. The fan is much quieter than my last PSU. Some say that even though it's rated at 450W, that's not the actual output. I wouldn't know, I'm not that up to speed on PSU's. But everything is working as it should on my computer. The only complaint I have is that this PSU only comes with two SATA plugs, which wasn't mentioned in the description. My last one had three SATA plugs (one spare), which came in handy because there have been multiple times when I was working on other people's computers and had to slave their hard drives on my computer to recover data. A more detailed description would be nice, but it's something I was willing to look passed. So far I've been satisfied with this PSU. The first time I had my factory PSU replaced by a professional because I wasn't aware of the problem. That cost me almost $120. This time, for a little over $30, I got the job done myself. 4DO NOT BUY!! Slid right in where it's supposed to fit and works great. Although the fan is much louder than the original. ***UPDATE*** DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!! Installed less than a year and already going out! 1Perfect fit for the Inspiron 545s This was exactly what we needed to replace the dead power supply on my husbands computer. It is a bit louder than the one that died and it never seems to quiet down like the other one did either but it powers the computer and that is what we really needed. 5Works well and as specified, provided stable-clean power after over a month of daily use. This is the third PS purchased from this vendor for a SFF-TFX system-and it works well, provides solid 300 Watt, not 350 Watt power at 80% use, have not required 350 Watts so far to support up to a 75 Watt (my experience) stand alone 1050Ti-Low profile PCI-E 16 GPU that I use in all my SFF-TFX builds. 4Not a 420W or 350W power supply The power rating for this power supply is a blatant misrepresentation. As others have noted, it is not a 420W power supply, nor is it a 350W power supply. It does not produce enough amperage on the 12V channel to run a GeForce 1050TI, which was the specific reason I bought it. Do not buy if you need more power than the original power supply can provide. 1Working so far. Iffy product, says 350w, unit everyone gets says 420, and some claim actual output is 320w, why four stars then? This is the only thing on the market (and I've looked around) that's an actual upgrade from 250w TFX PSU for my dell 530s. It has one fewer power sata connectors, but you can just pop one off your old psu and insert it on the wires. Note: Fried two of my harddrives, fine with ssd and MB. 3Barely lasted a month This power Supply is garbage. The PSU fan is making hideous grinding noises on power up after a grand total of 37 days. I see no reason to recommend this for anyone except for people who need a 40db PSU that only needs to last a month with a very specific form factor. Rather disappointing since this means I'm going to have to retire an otherwise functional PC simply because I can't get a reliable PSU for it anymore. 1I question whether this product actually exists. ***UPDATE 8/14/15*** Amazon shipped me the same product I returned (RP-TFX-420W). If you are looking for a higher watt power supply than the 250W factory supply, don't buy this. You are not getting a 350w power supply. It is a 280w power supply.***ORIGINAL REVIEW*** Bought this to replace the factory 250w power supply in a Dell 540s. The 250w supply works, but the graphics accelerator I'm upgrading to requires at least "20 Amp on the +12v rail". The factory Dell is 16 Amp.Replace Power supposedly has 2 different models, the 350W RP-TFX (what I bought) and the RP-TFX-420W (what I was shipped). The manufacturer website doesn't list the specs for the 350W (should have been red flag!). Most 350w power supplies have at least 20 Amp +12v, so I assumed this one would also.I received an RP-TFX-420W. It has a +12V rail at 14 Amp, lower than the factory Dell 250W. I don't know if the 350w is a real product or not, since it has no specs on the manufacturers website. I am returning the 420W (which is rated for 280W, not 420W). 2
