Customer Reviews

Bought this instead of a light box; so far, very goodI live in the Pacific Northwest, so just right now it's raining about 27 hours per day and the sun rises at 11 am and sets at 2 pm. It is grim. After researching light boxes to treat SAD, I concluded that they're just a bunch of very bright, fullish-spec, low-UV bulbs in a box shape (box shape for reasons unknown), and picked up this set of bulbs. They arrived this morning, so I've had a miniature sun in place of the normal floor lamp by my desk all day.I am absolutely wired for sound and the color quality is lovely. I need to shut it down soon that I can hope to sleep again before March.10/10, would buy this monstrosity again.20181108 update: Having the desired effect. Great buy.5Excellent normal-size high power bulbsThese bulbs are very satisfactory. Significantly brighter than the conventional 150 W tungsten bulb we tried, and much smaller than the high wattage corn cob LED or CFL bulbs we tried, which stick up out the top of the floor lamp. These fit beautifully within the floor lamp's white shade. Nearly as bright, and much cooler and more efficient than the 500 W halogen lamps they replaced,5I need a lot of light when I read. ...I need a lot of light when I read.... the brightest LED bulbs I could find were 150 watt equivalent..... these lights are 250 watt equivalent AND dimmable. They are BRIGHT!!! and I can clearly read now. Thank you for coming out with this product!5Great lights for photographyI wanted something with a good white balance/CRI for continuous lighting from a photography light box, but the CFBs that came with my stand/mount kit were ENORMOUS, and wouldn't properly fit into the light boxes I had. These LED bulbs are WAY smaller than the CFBs and (combined) produce more light (with a more neutral color) using half the power. It did mean that I had to get a dual-light socket mount, but I found one that also has a mount for a speedlight, so I can supplement these lights with a flash if I want to shoot with a narrower aperture (that's a little off-topic, sorry).ANYWAY, these bulbs are working really well, and I would feel good recommending them for any large space that needs to be lit with very few bulbs - their output is substantial and their color is suitable for just about any everyday household lighting application. Size-wise, these bulbs are larger than your everyday 60w/75w incandescent bulb, so they're probably not appropriate for most basic, enclosed lighting fixtures, but if your fixture can accommodate a bulb that is a little longer and about 1 1/2 times as wide, you might be surprised how much light these produce.5Finally A 250w Equivalent E26 LED BulbI have been waiting for a high wattage equivalent LED bulb to replace the halogen bulb in my torchiere lamp and can rejoice in this one. It's very bright and still works with the old dimmer slider-switch built into my lamp. No humming or flickering which is common for most LED lights with incompatible dimmers (your results may vary). It's as bright as the the old 300w halogen it replaced and runs much cooler at just 27 watts which is less of a fire hazard. Now I can light up the room without worrying about an huge electricity bill. It has a low enough profile not to stick up above the ceiling-facing glass shade found on many torchiere lamps. Works great with standard shaded table lamps as well and fits inside their harps with room to spare.A special note: The folks at Sansi did a follow up with me to make sure I was satisfied with my purchase and asked for feedback. Good customer service always gets an extra star with me.5It can light a medium sized room quite wellIt's not quite as bright as we first thought it would be, however it's still quite brilliant. If you put a lamp shade on it the efficiency goes down markedly, just like a regular bulb. So don't be too hopeful if you think it will light up the whole house. I've purchased 5 of these, some with Daylight, some with a more yellowish tint. So here's where personal prefs come in - you may want an incandescent color in some rooms, but daylight in others. Our rooms with lots of windows get the daylight version because it simulates what we get during the day. More cozy rooms like bedrooms etc get the 3k color to make it feel warmer and much less harsh. In any event, you'll be happy with these. I've only had them like 6 months or so, so can't really comment on longevity. But I think they're here to stay for a long time5Amazing high-quality light output from such a compact bulb - 130 lumens per watt of electricityProgress in LED light technology has been astounding over the past few years. This bulb, which is scarcely larger than a conventional 100 watt incandescent bulb, provides several times as much light while using just over a quarter as much electricity. I used one of these to replace a 58 watt double circular fluorescent light, itself a replacement for a conventional 150 watt incandescent bulb. Both the fluorescent light and this LED bulb reportedly produced 3500 lumens of light (more than double the light of a 150w bulb), but this bulb uses less than half as much electricity as the fluorescent light and it produces a much more natural-appearing light. The design of this bulb is definitely outside the box. Most of today's LED bulbs are made to look as conventional as possible, hiding away the LED components under a frosted glass dome. This bulb doesn't to that. Instead the LEDs are arrayed on the outside of a hollow ceramic base with slots designed to facilitate superior airflow and cooling. This keeps the LED elements much cooler than in most other bulbs, improving efficiency. The lack of a frosted glass diffuser over the bulb also helps to maximize light output, leading to an amazing lumen per watt ratio of almost 130. These bulbs are a bit pricey, but the added efficiency more than pays for itself over the life of the bulb. There are some downsides to these bulbs. As someone else pointed out, they're not certified and we have to trust in Sansi's honesty in reporting their specs. However, I can certainly attest to the brightness of these bulbs. Yes, they're made in China, but then so was my iPhone. The quality of this product speaks for itself. The lack of a frosted glass diffuser does result in harsher shadows from this bulb. The shadows are not as harsh as with a clear glass incandescent bulb, but they're noticeably sharp. I would not use these bulbs for direct lighting - in fact, the LEDs are painfully bright and should not be visible in use. These bulbs are best used for indirect lighting as in a torch light, or behind a diffuser or lamp shade. I would also note that the color rendering index is only 80. Although much better than some, it is a far cry from the 95+ CRI of some of the newest LED bulbs out there. Of course there is a trade-off between CRI and efficiency and unless one needs critically accurate color rendition, a CRI of 80 is adequate for most situations.Time will tell how well these bulbs function over their lifespan. The reported 25,000 hour life is only half that of comparable LED bulbs, but the 5 year warrantee makes these bulbs an excellent gamble.5Bright and work wellWhen we moved into our new house one of my first tasks was to replace all the light bulbs with LEDs with a nice bright clean color temperature of 5000K (Daylight). For the master bedroom bedside lamps I needed LED bulbs that were a) As bright as possible; b) Standard fitting and size; c) 5000K color temperature; d) Dimmable; These bulbs were the best match I could find on Amazon that suited these criteria. They are bright and I can confirm that they work well with my Insteon plug-in dimmer switch.5Awake and Alert On DemandI purchased these to replace bulbs in an older home's recessed ceiling fixtures with glass plate covers, after trying numerous other LED bulbs with high luminosity. This one left them all behind. The difference was, not to be ironic, like night and day. I've long-needed lighting in my upstairs home office that would help me continue to feel awake even when working late into the night, as well as help me feel alert when working through dreary winters, but we've not yet prioritized that area of the house with regards to remodeling and updating the lighting options. From the back yard, my husband commented that the radiance from my office now looks like I've either got an operating room up here or am experiencing an angelic visitation. I'll take it. I wasn't looking for a soft, warm, glow--I needed AWAKE ON DEMAND. And these bulbs deliver!! (Additionally, the dimmable component of these bulbs works seamlessly with our fixtures, so far.)5glad I found these!**I did NOT receive any form of consideration or compensation for writing this review**I just received these bulbs a few days ago so while I can't comment on longevity, I am otherwise very impressed. I did not measure the light from these with any instrumentation but to my eyes, both the 3000k color rating and the 3500 lumen ratings seem about right. The bulbs have a very solid feel and we have not experienced any flickering or humming from them. They are definitely bigger than a regular bulb (these are A21s not A19s) so make sure you pay attention to the specs and have room for them)Light Temperature:The light color is just a little cleaner looking than an incandescent or your standard "warm white" LED/CFL bulb-- noticeably more "pure" white but not so much that they would clash with 2700k bulbs on the other side of the room (need to see them side by side to really notice). I typically prefer more neutral white (3000k - 4000k) but my wife really likes the old fashioned yellower bulbs. These will do nicely to further my plot of slowly transitioning without her noticing. =)Brightness:Other than my cell phone, I don't have anything to test the 3500 lumen claim but I will say these are definitely very bright bulbs. They are noticeably brighter than the 42 watt (150 watt equivalent) 2600 lumen CFL bulbs they are replacing and I think the slightly higher color temp as well as the relatively higher CRI lend to their effectiveness as well.Dimming:can't comment on this yet as I haven't tested them with a dimmer switch. will update if I get the chance.Light Distribution:It's worth paying attention to the rated 270 degree light angle. the tops of the bulbs are dedicated to their electronics and heat distribution so there is a noticeable darker area directly over the top of the bulb. We have a table lamp that has sort of a weird housing inside and bulbs are mounted horizontally (so they're pointed at the side of the lamp shade as opposed to at the ceiling). There was a noticeable dark circle on the lamp shade and while we were happy just rotating the lamp so that part is facing the corner, for others, this might be distracting. However, in our other normal table lamp where the bulb seats normally and faces up, this wasn't a problem. So I would say avoid using these in housings where the end of the bulb will be pointing directly at where you need the most light. Mounted vertically in a table/floor lamp or horizontally in a high up wall fixture would seem to be the among the better situations for them. They'd also be GREAT for exterior fixtures, if you're lucky enough to have ones big enough to fit them. I was able to screw the bulb into mine and turn it on...the light looked amazing and really lit up the exterior of my house but the bulb was mashed in there and it just wouldn't have worked long term.Other thoughts:They do seem to produce a lot of heat for LEDs but IMHO, not to a problematic degree. The ends of them (where they have the ceramic heat sinks) get hot enough that even a 1/2 second tap with your finger tip is uncomfortable. The manufacturer does not recommend using them in fully enclosed fixtures and I can see why: unless such a fixture was located in a walk-in freezer, I would say it wouldn't be a good idea: reduced bulb life-span at best, fire hazard at worst. So to sum up this long-winded review: they won't work everywhere for everybody but in the right situations, these are EXCELLENT lights!5
